THANK GOD for this. I just came back from my perio visit today and a friend had told me I shouldn't be using (Listerine) mouthwash because it would ruin my teeth. I was shook, but had to remind myself that my dentist and hygienist both agreed it was fine. Thank you for posting this. I don't know where this trend of being anti-mouthwash is coming from, but I wish it would go away. :(
@@carpediemearth btw i just used mouthwash for the first time and im used to rinsing after brushing so it was hard for me to resist rinsing after using the mouthwash but i read online u can swallow ur saliva but i wasnt sure if i let all the mouthwash out to the point where it would be safe to swallow my saliva, so do u think it would be ok since it said the mouthwash is alcohol free?
My routine 1 I wash my hands. 2 I use my water pik on 8 setting 3 I floss my teeth 4 I brush my teeth Day and Night And avoid sugary foods if possible and drink a lot of water 😁
Extremely informative. Being a Cigar smoker, I use an Antiseptic mouthwash to combat the negative effects of my tobacco use on my gums. However, I've always rinsed AFTER brushing and flossing my teeth. After, watching this video though, it seems like I'd be doing my teeth a favor by rinsing BEFORE I brush. Love this channel!!
Great video. Maybe you can make a video next about the different types of toothpaste and mouthwash; gum protection formula, cavity protection, sensitive formula etc. More importantly, how do the specific ingredients work? For example how does the floride work to stop cavities? How does the antiseptic formula work and what kinda of microbes are being targeted etc. Thanks and keep up the awesome work! I love your videos. 👏
thank you! and yes! great video idea! until then, here is my one about natural toothpastes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kQAPEZaqwfY.html
@@TeethTalk Yup. Watched that one too. Regarding the future video that I suggested above, would be great if you could pick out the main active ingredient(s) and tell us how it works and the microbe(s) that it attacks etc. Also, another future video you may wanna do is perhaps one debunking stuff/explaining the dangers of overdoing certain home remedies in which the good microbes are killed off. Eg: Does gargling with pink salt twice a day kill off even the good microbes? Does using mouth wash too frequently lead to oral thrush? You know, those kinda stuff, basically talk about how to maintain proper PH balance in the mouth. Thank you once again for all these informative videos, you're awesome.
Until then, take a look at a pH chart and compare fluoride content of most common toothpastes and different types of mouthwashes and see that ACT Anticavity mouthwash is a great choice 😆
Ive always wondered when brushing your teeth should you: A. Run some water on the bristles of the tooth brush and then apply tooth paste B. Apply tooth paste on the bristles and then run some water C. Just apply toothpaste on a dry toothbrush and brush
Steps I take: - Brush my teeth (with the method from your video) - Floss - Wait about 5-10 min, then use mouth rinse Sometimes, depending on what I eat, some small particles come out with the mouthwash that the brushing and flossing missed. So I also look at mouthwash as a nice refresher for any places your toothbrush or floss missed! I'm really curious how long one should wait before using mouth wash OR if a water pick will do the trick and the need for mouthwash at all becomes useless?
Toothpaste can have alot of grit and detergents, that's the only downside I see to not rinsing the mouth after brushing. If you use ACT or Therabreath's fluoride mouthwash, the amount of fluoride (0.05%) available is roughly equivalent to a fluoride toothpaste in terms of bioavailability.
So you can just skip using toothpaste altogether? I thought about just brushing with no toothpaste ,then flossing, tongue scraper, then a waterpik with Listerine in reservoir, followed by ACT mouthwash. I've been brushing again with toothpaste after the waterpik then using Act mouthwash but that extra brushing always seemed redundant.
Question, ACT has an anticavity mouthwash “for kids” (bubble gum flavor) and it contains more flouride .05% than Listerine total care anticavity mouthwash .02%. Does it mean ACT’s is better to use for cavity prevention? Im not a huge fan of mint flavors. By the way I really appreciate your videos, I have been educated tremendously !
Thanks for sharing!! I’m very prone to getting cavities so easily and I just learned that fluoride mouthwash would be my best option. Also you are so pretty 😊
NGL, I always rinse my mouth with water after brushing and never floss. I've never had a cavity in my life. LOL. *knock on wood* I often think "if it's not broken don't change it".
Haha I'm the same never had cavities, always rinsed with water and never flossed. But then again my grandma have smoked for 40 years and never had cancer, it's kinda the same principle here i guess
This is very confusing. I've always rinsed (with water) after brushing and I've never had a cavity (knock on wood). Recently I discovered that you are not supposed to rinse, drink, or eat anything for 30 mins after brushing (my toothpaste actually suggests this on the box too). I asked my dentist and she said that fluoride saturates the teeth in about 4 minutes, so if you brush, then floss, then by the time you rinse out your mouth you should be fine. 🤷♂️ I've actually started brushing quickly once with toothpaste for 30 seconds, then rinse mouth with water thoroughly, then start again with a clean brush and small amount of toothpaste, then spitting and not rinsing that final time. Seems to be the best of both worlds to me? I actually seem to have had more plaque on me teeth when I don't rinse after brushing (or at least I did this last time between visits).
I got a prescription toothpaste from the dentist but I bought act restoring mouthwash since I heard it was good for remineralizing the enamel. I've been using the mouthwash after brushing but I wonder if i should be using the mouthwash first
Well when I brush my teeth I leave the toothpaste on my teeth for like 30 minutes after that I rinse and gargle with water , after that I rinse with listerine for 30 seconds then I’m done is that okay to do? Or safe ?
Yep I always floss when I brush and spit out then use flouride rinse and my exams and hygienist and dentist thinks my teeth and gums are super . Even firmed up gums kinda grow back from over 5 MM to under 4 4MM
I can't have toothpaste in my throat after brushing; I gotta clear my throat with water. I could use a straw... but nah. I also spit out a LOT of toothpaste, like I really hoover up everything I can in my mouth, so even if the mouthwash has less fluoride per g/ml, I'd probably still be getting more fluoride from a mouthwash lol. Maybe. I dunno.
yesss! great video idea!!! until then - here is my updated "natural" toothpaste video - hope this helps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kQAPEZaqwfY.html
Hello! I have a question that i hope you can answer for me. So i want to use Crest whitening strips, but i wanted to ask if its safe me to use, since i heard you have to over 16 for it to be safe. I’m 14 and have lost all my babyteeth for over 2 years, and generally i have healthy teeth. With that information i hope you can answer my question
This fear definitely comes from the PH of the mouthwash. The lower the Ph, the more acidic it is. Listerine, for instance, is very acidic. ACT mouthwashes as well as Therabreath, on the other hand, is one of the least acidic mouthwashes I've seen. I plan to use ACT mouthwash from now on.
@@TeethTalksince acidic mouthwash isn’t recommended, therabreath has a mouthwash called healthy gums mouthwash it’s antigingivitis. Can this be used as an antiseptic ? Can I use this before brushing my teeth?
I don't use mouthwash. So how do I gargle at the back of my tongue and throat area if I will not rinse after brushing? The toothpaste foam is my mouthwash basically.
I use parodontax which is advertised as a mouthwash that helps with bleeding gums, but it also has fluoride and no alcohol. It also says that it helps fight plaque 🤔 so is it antiseptic or anti cavity
@@TeethTalk Well that gives me hope that maybe one day mine will look like that too! 😃 I've gotten really serious about my dental health lately, but I wear a lingual bar so they always get that bit of extra plaque over time no matter how hard I try. Your channel has been a gamechanger!
What about the antiseptics that contain some alcohol? My dentist suggested using an antiseptic mouthwash that could kill 99.9% of bacteria like Listerine while neglecting to mention about alcohol..
The toothpaste coats your teeth with a nice layer of fluorides. If you use a Fluoride enriched toothpaste then simply rinsing it away would defeat the purpose.
So, I used charcoal powder things maximum for two times and after few weeks what I can see is my teeth are turning black and plaque started growing in some corners. I am worried, please help, tell me what is this and what to do? 🤐
Great video, heard about this. Just one question, how long should we keep the toothpaste on our teeth after brushing? 10 minutes? Half hour? An hour? 😃
No you spit the toothpaste and dont rinse at all. The toothpaste residue thats left sits in your mouth the whole night until you brush in the morning. Stop overthinking it.
@@danan9061 Not overthinking it but I've asked my dentist since then and that's not what he said to do...thanks anyway though. You don't leave your mouth full of of toothpaste you have to rinse to get the paste literally out of your mouth you don't keep it in your mouth the entire night lol....
A little off topic. But I really need advice. Will using a toothbrush too long cause cavities? I really need a new one ASAP. And it is taking me too long to find a new one to ask my father for because I am stuck between trying a perio toothbrush (because I think it is really soft which is the brush I need) & trying an electric one because of all this talk of them being better. I already have 11 fillings. I really do not want another single cavity. I even chew with my front teeth out of fear of any more cavities. I am about to call my dentist because I keep missing my appointments due to my fathers scheduele and them not being open on Saturdays. My cousin thinks I should ask for a new dental place. But I love & trust the place I am at. What do you think I should try?
@@PrincessYonna1 Bruh what? STFU, candy is not the only cause of cavities and you do not even know me. I hardly eat candy at all anymore. There was another reason I was struggling with my oral health that is private and nobody's business.
Dentists won’t yell at me if I go in for the first time after suffering bulimia for a few years, right? Cause I’ll break down crying and probably be asked to leave
Hi there! Dental student here. I’d say the dentist or hygienist will bring it up (what habits can you think of that affect this?) and you can tell them bulimia if you’re comfortable or just say you prefer not to say. If they’re a good practitioner, they’ll understand and just give you ways to help the acidic erosion :) hang in there my friend!
Thank you for the great content, very informative, I did ask my dental care provider about which mouthwash to use and they recommended their 45.00 dollars mouthwash, I asked if I was getting a five gallon bucket of it (joke, and not). Are those mouthwashes really better than what the cheaper over the counter mouthwashes have to offer? Or is it just marketing? Thanks again
to be honest i think it all comes down to genetics my grandma never was at the dentist and almost all her life cleaned his teeth with charcoal and never had any problems
I would like to know why almost EVERYTHING in dentistry, is so expensive. And why insurance companies will be happy to PULL your teeth, cheap. But to "help" your mouth like a root canal, dentures, partials etc....they say are COSMETIC!!!! 😡😡
This is so unrelated to the video haha but that exactly do treatment coordinators do and does every dental office have one? And is it a completely separate job from being the office manager?
great question! the exact job description depends on the office! but here is my video about different types of admin jobs in a dental office - hope this helps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ir0-y3dg3HU.html
Acids erode enamel. Basic ph is necessary to rebuild enamel. Many mouthwashes are acidic though because they are antiseptic (hydrogen peroxide) you can rinse with baking soda in water to lower ph in the mouth after treatment with acidic mouthwashes that kill bacteria.
I brush after that i rinse with water and after that i rinse with fluoride containing mouthwash and keep it that way.. no more washing. I hope I'm doing good
plz help me i am doing a dental hygiene program of 2 year and i will further do program of bs dental hygiene which is 4 years i belong to pakisan and want tu work abroad plz tell which program is good for me
I have an appointment for a root canal consultation but honestly just CANNOT wait that long. (The pain is super bad) how can i get a sooner "emergency" appointment? 😭😭
Put some Clove oil over the infected tooth! It works, I had really bad tooth pain as well. Or take 800mg of ibuprofen. That’s what they gave me at the dentist and within 45-1 hr the pain is gone!!!!
@@TeethTalkfor the antiseptic mouthwash can the therabreath healthy gums periodontist formulated alcohol free be used as an antiseptic before brushing ?
Not really. They just say that mainly because it hasnt been tested and approved as edible. The active ingredient sodium flouride has already been added to drinking water. Its really not a big deal to leave a bit of residue in the mouth. Also if you swish with mouthwash isnt the intent to leave ingredients in your mouth overnight anyway?
ughhh I know it's so wild. dentistry is not a 1-size-fits-all so my best advice is to always ask your dental provider about your individual recommendations. however, a generalized recommendation is brushing + flossing = healthy mouth! hope this helps!
I tried flossing using your method hugging the teeth swipping up and down, but its hard to do it in the back teeth the molars🥲, I tend to sawing motion
