I’m so very sorry for your loss. Goldens grab your heart and hold on to it forever. It sounds like it was hemangiosarcoma. I’m glad you had a few final days together to say goodbye. 😥💔 I lost my golden almost 7 years ago, and I still think of him nearly every day. He would’ve loved camping in my Outback. Thank you for the Forester video. And thank you for sharing your grief. Many of us understand that pain.
I am not sure what the cancer was called but it was so fast. Goldens really do find a spot in your heart and I am sorry you lost yours. We are just glad we got to spend time with him before we had to say good bye. I hope you got something out of the video and thank you for your kind words.
So sorry to hear of Boba’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May the memories shared with Boba always remain in your heart and bring you comfort. God Bless, Cyrena 🙏❤️🩹
So sorry to hear about Boba. Dogs are truly family and I was distraught when I lost mine. I hope you get to enjoy more adventures with him in spirit. Looks like a great budget setup.
Hey Chris. I know how painful it is. I have had 6 Goldens in my life, my current one is 11 and I treasure every day. My last dog died of hemangiosarcoma (sounds like what your dog had) and went from happy and playing to gone in 2 hours. I hiked with him the week before. I still carry his collar on my backpack. When you’re ready, he’ll send you another friend. Mine did and I wasn’t even looking for another dog. ❤
Thank you for your kind words. I think it was the same cancer, yes. We were camping the weekend before and then he was gone a week later. I know he is with us in spirit and for that I am thankful. When we are ready I hope he sends us another pup as amazing as he was.
To keep cool at night in any degree sleeping bag, have the bottom sleeping bag open where your feet are exposed. Most sleeping bags has a double zipper system where the portion of your sleeping is unzipped
oh yeah I do that from time to time. I just always get that sticky feeling when I am in that sleeping bag. I am working on a set up that reduces that though and so far I am liking the results.
I’m sorry for your loss. Boba was truly special. I’ve moved from Florida to Colorado a month and a half ago and it was suppose to be the last great adventure with my 13 y/o Lab. He passed the month before we were suppose to leave. I understand your pain. I didn’t film mine either. Pets are so hard to lose and I’m sorry Boba couldn’t be there. ❤
Thank you, he was my constant adventure companion. Oh gosh that is a big move! I can completely understand that situation. It just doesn't seem as fun when you were so excited to share a big moment with them and they are not there to enjoy it with you. I too am sorry for your loss. Pets do take a piece of our hearts during their relatively short time here on this earth.
Thank you so much I really appreciate that! I am glad you liked the video! I hope you got some good ideas out of it. Do you do a lot of car camping as well?
@@Chris_Palmer Absolutely, yeah definitely enjoy the "just get out with what you have" mindset. I have a ground tent, will take a few trips out a year with the wife and dogs, and a few trips with friends here and there - work keeps me busy, but hoping to increase that in the coming fall/winter season!
I’m so sorry for your loss. I understand the pain of losing such an important part of your heart. 😢 Just FYI … I found that if I turn the headrest around, on the seat under the bed, it provides a more level support for the bed. Hope that makes sense.
Thank you much. It’s been tough without him around for the entire family. Oh that’s such a good idea! Thank you for that I will have to give that a try!
I’ve got a Subaru Outback and I’ve got the Exped MegaMat… I took out the back seat headrest and turned it around to provide support for the mattress. It doesn’t cure it totally, but helps out. Or, you can simply take the headrests out for extra space. So sorry for the loss of your dog- may he rest in peace ✌️
Thank you for the kind words. Its much appericated. Yeah someone else mentioned doing that with the headrest as well. I am going to give it go for sure!
First time watching your video Man I ended up crying in public transport. Don’t apologise for it I’ve had a cat I know how you feel. You have my support. I love you, have a blessed day and good luck.
Ugh I’m so sorry about Boba. That’s the hardest thing. My heart is just breaking for you. Thank you for sharing and I hope your trips help heal your heart. Run free Boba. 😢
So sorry for your loss. I’m sure Boba was with you on your trip and will be going forward. Like my 10yr old 80lb mutt Billy, looks like Boba was your adventure buddy. Cherish the memories you have. Your video inspired me. Billy and I have been looking at teardrop trailers to pull with a Subaru Forester, Outback, or Crosstrek. But now I’m thinking maybe just sleep in the car. We tent camp all the time. Live just south of you in Bellingham and don’t do more camping in BC or Alaska because the idea of grizzlies in our campsite freaks me out. That’s why I’m looking at the teardrops. But maybe sleeping in the back of a Forester or Outback will take care of my grizzly anxiety. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you for your kind words my friend. I like to think he was there with me and will be with me always on adventures. I am so happy to hear that I inspired you! That literally just made my day. I use to camp on the ground all the time and I too had that fear of waking up with a bear poking at my tent. A tear drop camper would be really nice to have! I just don't have the space for anything like that, so I had to work with what I have. Sleeping in the forester was fantastic especially if you get it setup the way you want it. Plus, if a bear does come into camp you are in your escape vehicle already hahaha If there is anything that I can help with in regards to your setup, let me know!
Was looking for ideas for camping out of my Ascent and ran across your channel. I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like Boba was well-loved, which I'm sure made his passing that much harder. Thank you for sharing. 💚
Thank you for your kind words. He was well loved by so many people and touched the lives of more than we knew. I hope you got something out of the video! If you have any questions please just ask
Some of my best trips were in a beat up Jeep Grand Cherokee with just my backpacking gear sleeping in the back, a couple jugs of water, and a couple cans of chili.
Thx for your insights. I love my 2010 orange forester car/temp home Auto’m. She’s been good to me and I’ve clothed her in native wool blankets. Your build out is great and I may get a friends help to build that especially, behind seat storage . 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I am glad you like the video! That is so wonderful to hear that you love your forester as much as I do! I would love to make mine a burnt orange color haha. I am planning out more storage for all my camping gear right now actually! More storage is always a good thing!
Hey, Chris. First-time visitor to your channel -- liked and subscribed. My sincerest condolences about the loss of your beloved doggie, Boba. Our family lost our 2 beloved doggies (brothers) last year, one due to cancer, and we will always miss them, too. I'm also a Forester owner and we have been using it like crazy to enjoy our national parks through camping, fishing, and bicycling. We sleep in tents, but I've entertained the idea of sleeping in the rear cargo area of our Forester as well. Thank you for sharing your set-up and ideas with us.
Thank you! I am glad to have you here! Thank you as well for you kind words its tough to let them go after they have been with us for so long. I would love to travel through the National Parks and camp in them all, how exciting! I always slept in a ground tent myself and moving into the Subi just changed everything. Let me know if there is anything I can help with!
If you are loking for a cold weather sleep system I suggest this. Mantuole USB heated sleeping pad and a power - bank - solar charger- 42800 that are both on Amazon. I have used it in 22 degree weather with a sleeping pad, wool blanket and a synthetic camping blanket. It is a game changer, I was nice and warm all night. I also suggest getting portable power bank like bluetti , jackery, ecoflow to charge while you drive. Then you can recharge things at night when you sleep.
Thank you for the info! Oh I plan on getting a power source for sure in the future! I will have to take a look at you recommendations! There is so much out there and its great to hear what works for other people. Thanks again
love This video Chris, I think it motivates ppl like me to just get out without worrying too much about the fancy gear, And in times like this its better to disconnect and be with nature and recharge. RIP Boba😕 !!!
I am so glad to hear that! You don't need the fancy gear to enjoy being outside at all! I hope this motivates to you get out! And Thank you about Boba, its been hard with out him around.
I love camping out of my Outback. I did it as cheap as possible. I've made some upgrades as far as sleeping pad and cooler and a Jackery 1000 with solar panel.
Thank you for the info! I never thought about using EMT bags. I did get a few boxes to use already. However I might need to looked into those bags for future storage!
I feel you ❤I also had put my dog down recently due to f*king cancer. I still don't really believe it happened and that she's not here anymore. I can no longer see my shadow and it just sucks! I am heading out soon to drive across Canada from BC to my cottage in Muskoka and then east and slowly through the States on my way back. I'll be car camping in my new Heritage Bronco Sport and I'm so looking forward to the distraction and the adventure.
I know that feeling all too well! We still think he is going to pop up around a corner. Your road trip sounds EPIC!!!!! I miss Muskoka, its a wonderful place...and they have great beer hahaha. I hope you are able to get away and enjoy your adventure. I bet that Bronco is going to be amazing to road trip in! Boba is the second loved one I have lost in a year due to cancer.....so I am with you...F*K CANCER!
Hey bro, I know you've been through a lot, and I just want to say that I love you and that I'm praying for you, and that God has a plan. His plan for you is way better than anything you could imagine, and he loves you so much.
First time viewer. First time subie owner. I am excited to get mine out there on an adventure! Thanks for sharing your current set up. Very sorry to hear about the passing of your dog. Sending prayers.
Glad you found me and got something out of the video! Oh I am excited for you! You will love it I am sure. Thank you for the prayers, we miss him greatly.
First time watching your videos. I have a Subaru I'm also looking to use for car camping...want a minimal set-up without a build. I was wondering about the mattress you talked about in the video......your thoughts? and whether sleep was an issue with the incline of the seats even when folded down? I'm sorry to hear about your Boba!! I'm glad you had some time to spend together towards the end.
Thank you for your kind words about boba I really appericate that. I really enjoyed using the mattress. I too, thought I would feel the incline but I really didnt! My only issue was the getting the headrest area to where it wouldnt fall while I slept, like I meantioned in the video. They have a insert that goes under the mattress to aid in that slight slope and I am planning on getting that as well so peace of mind you could look at that? Once I got comfortable, I was out! The foam in the mattress is really comfy and I am kinda sad I didnt think about getting one before now haha.
Hi Chris That is awesome to hear about the mattress. To help solve you head issue try looking something called a Backseat Bivy. It’s a support that fits around your head rests and attaches to the car seat bracket on the Subaru. I’ve use it once and it worked really well so far
@@Chris_Palmer It's nice to sleep in and not worry about animals. I need to find a solution to the head area, like you did, when sleeping with my head towards the front. I like to look at the stars out of the moonroof while falling asleep.
oh 100%! i just found what worked in the moment but, some ppl are mentioning flipping the headrest backwards to help with that. Let me know what you find works for you
@@classikz haha yeah it does! Don’t get me wrong, I would love to have all that stuff! However, since I don’t it’s not going to stop me from going out and camping! Haha
Loved this video we are also overlanding in kinda the same way currently from Iceland to Australia in used Old Lexus RX after looking at the Subaru we thought we try something we had not had before, we will see how it goes.. Thanks Zahra @twoheadnorth
Hey man loved the video man and so sorry for your loss. I know the feeling lost mine after being with him for 16 years 🩷 🙏 looking forward to the next one and as always safe travels man. PS new subscriber man
Hey! Thank you man I appreciate that. Its crazy how much dogs effect out lives. Glad you like the video man and I am happy you subbed! I hope you enjoy the content.
