That first savenelli 120th anniversary with the light bright vibrant grain is beautiful 😍! Definitely my favorite out of all the ones you showed us. Thanks for sharing. I fancy large bowl longer shank bent bulldog designs. I know there aren't many in that category but that's why I avidly look around for them.
Thanks for sharing your bulldog collection! Weber made a pipe called "The Scoop" The shape is similar to the one you showed. That's a real fine collection!
Badass collection bro. The Bulldog and Rhodesian are two of my favorite shapes. Thank you for the informative video and explaining the differences in the two. Happy Smokes! 💥👊💨🔥💯
The shank is the most important determinant of wether a pipe is a bulldog or a Rhodesian, regardless of wether it is bent or not. A diamond or mostly diamond shank is a bulldog, a round shank is Rhodesian. At least that’s what we use in the UK
I am just starting out in pipe smoking and have really enjoyed your videos! What is that Peterson that was in this video? I like that one a lot! If you have it and ever want to part with it let me know! Thank you for great informative videos! God bless!
Interesting video. These are shapes that I gravitate to as well. Trying to classify the wide variety of variations that occur in these shapes (and many pipe shapes, I suppose) can generate some fun discussion. Like you, I don’t have decades of experience, but I do think of a diamond shank as a bulldog and not a Rhodesian, whether bent or straight. An interesting variation is Matches860’s favorite, the Savinelli 673. Bulldog? Rhodesian? Related, but not truly either? Savinelli on its site describes it as a bent Rhodesian, but the shank is not round. As long as the discussion remains friendly and fun, it’s a positive for the YTPC. Thanks for your video!
Fabulous collection for me square shank is a bulldog like most pipes there is variation I don't put a label on them I'd buy a pipe because I like it thanks for sharing take it easy
I think there is no right or wrong when defining a pipe. Mist important thing is if you enjoy the pipe. I’m doing ok. Thank You for asking. Thank you for watching.
Great collection Tim! I’m curious where you source pipes for restoration. Also, if you have an outlet where you sell? As for defining shapes I’d say the creator gets artistic license. Thanks!
Ok, I have what I consider Bulldogs and Rhodesian. As far as I'm concerned, if the shank is a diamond shape, bent or not bent, it is a bulldog. If the shank is oval or round, then it's a Rhodesian. Great collection Tim.
This is a question similar to Balkan vs English vs Scottish. I wouldn’t consider the square stem to be definitive because I have square stem pipes that definitely are not bulldogs. For me it’s the look, straight stem, squat bowl (lines or not), and I have to want to call it a bulldog.
I call it a bulldog if it has a straight diamond shank, and a bent bulldog when it has a bent diamond shank. Rhodesians have round shanks. Also the bowl needs to have a diamond-like profile or it’s neither.
Well done Great collection, yes indeed these pipe shapes are very subjective.. I tend to define pipes with sharp linear shapes more as a bulldog , and soft lines Rhodesian..I have one small bent round shank rhodesian....if you like these shapes check out the " Cairngorm " shape by Mike Billington of Blakemore briars
I would rather have a $5 no name that smokes well than a big name that burns hot or won't stay lit. What are the stem protectors called and where do you get them?
My best smoking pipe only cost me $28. I got the softy bits from Amazon. I’ll post a link. Thank you for watching. www.amazon.com/BJ-Long-Touch-Mouthpiece-Rubber/dp/B07J2RKW69/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=BJ+Long+Soft+Touch+Pipe+Mouthpiece+Stem+Rubber+Bits+-+50+in+Each+Bag&qid=1701539803&sr=8-1
