I mean, 3D models are quite hard to render and physics of how the model moves is _really_ necessary to consider. You get to have some allowance in character posing in 2D on the other hand. There's no fixed model and you can adjust tiny bits about the character every moment you draw. That's why 2D cartoons are way more expressive - They don't have to abide by physics, just the creator's creativity/conscience.
@ngcebondlovu-cn5tw I think with 3d animation it tends to look samey and that's why it's not liked as much. unless there's a distinct style like spider verse, the newer puss in boots movie, new tmnt movie, etc. That smooth "boring" looking 3d render just doesn't hit as hard as those movies or how expressive 2d can be. Which to be far, those movies take longer and cost more. So for this movie they probably didnt put much thought into making the animation the best it can be, its just ok and gets the story where it needs to go🤷♀️
I really like that Leo ended up being quality. I don't think it broke boundaries or anything, but just the fact that it looks so much better than Wish does and highlights how Disney went into the trash makes me happy
Not trying to argue but Wish looks 'cheap' since there is this element that they didn't use since they were going for a story book type if you know what I mean.
@@10109467so disney made it look cheap on purpose? Be honest dude, Secret of Kells has a storybook style and doesn’t look cheap. The Tangled tv show has a storybook style and doesn’t look cheap. Disney just puts profit above anything else, including animation.
@@10109467 I haven't watched Wish aside from the videos that pop up here and there but I think if they were trying for a "storybook painting" look similar to their concept art, maybe they could have gone a bit further with it. If you've seen Spiderman: Across the Spider verse, I feel like the visual of some of the dimensions there may be what Disney was attempting.
My brothers won’t stop rewatching it- They had to pause it to go somewhere and my mother just stared at the tv for a second, then said “.. Well now I need to know what happens.”
@@-St4rSailorr I feel this, every time we have a movie night, we watch 2 movies, our younger siblings cry when we don't watch Leo, honestly I don't mind
@@-nightlyfireflies-9561 Lol imagine being an older sibling running down the stairs to your sibling crying, and when you ask they explain this crying with ‘MOM DIDN’T PLAY LEO!’
All the characters look amazing, but as a 2D artist whenever I see smth 2D and then 3D it makes me sad that the whole animation wasnt made in 2D, it just has so much more life than 3D, I wish the movie animation industry would go back a little bit for its roots 😢😢😢
Same!! It reminds me of how beautiful disney movies were before they turned 3D. Of course, they are known for having lots of gorgeous 3D movies, but 2D just has that charm to it that is so hard to capture in 3D. (Maybe Disney wasn’t the best example- I think 2D with shading is even more admirable)
I totally agree!! The sketches looked so much better than the final product. But there are a lot of movies that still look great 3d, for example Luca is full of life!!
ye i think in alot of cases 2d is much better to make a character full of life, however when done right, 3d can look amazing. Its rare because its sooo hard and company's like illumination will just make the design as cute, round and simple as possible without much character to get the kids interested. If you digitally sculpt detail onto a cute 3d character to give the more life, similar to the 2d concepts, the character will in most cases look uncanny valley even if your an intermediate artist. I think movies like Up and inter the spider verse do really well with giving life into the characters and they are very ground breaking and successful for doing that. Im no expert but i think Its a real all or nothing type thing with 3d cartoons i think. You either go down in history or most likely people will just see your product as mid.
I mean I personally disagree. I think they bring life whether it’s 2D or 3D it just depends on how you work with it. Some things work better with 2D some better 3D others better as CGI or stop motion.
What I love about this movie is that most characters outfitted changed throughout each day in the movie’s time, so I felt like that was a great addition!
Right it's so much more realistic/relatable in that sense, I loved it. Hatteeee when one character has the same exact outfit (THE SAME) throughout an entire movie or tv series. Like the Mystery Inc gang, Candice from P&F, Kim Possible to some extent, (side note: Winx Club outfits after they made everyone just wear shades of pink on tacky outfits was the lamest shit ever). I'd like to see some show stick to a consistent clothing silhouette for each character, and just change up the designs/colours every so often. But keeping the colours within that character's signature shade/ range. Eg: Daphne would stay within her shade range of purple and green but she would alternative between dresses, short skirts or long pants (always stylish, ofc); and Fred and Velma could have a few different simple looks of their preppy style retaining Fred's ascot, and Velma's glasses ofc. Shaggy could change around a pant or two 😂 and wear different shades of green maybe ?
My 5 y/o son who's disabled LOVES Leo. He's got a difficult life, so finding something he likes as much as this great movie. (he literally is so excited at parts he squeels!) Thank you for helping make my little boy smile!
the girl with the big ponytail was definitely my favorite! I loved her design! Also, the two only ginger kids probably would've made a lot of people think they were siblings-- but they were actually distinct enough that I never thought this, so great job!
‘His head is… so darn big.’ I feel that 😂 that’s so cool that you worked on a movie like this! I haven’t seen it yet, but it’s definitely on my list, it looks so cute!!!
I honestly loved Leo. Adam Sandler is awesome, and the character designs were ON POINT ❤ it’s stuff like this that makes me want to become a screenwriter, so thank you!
Great job! Leo was such a surprise in quality, and the realism in the kids' characters, their designs included, I think really added to the film. I hope people come to realize what a gem of a movie Leo is.
@@mydogghost i mean that in their design specifically not how they are animated, the 2d drawings do a better job of showing what kind of character they are even before you hear them speak and see them move, while the 3d animation just seems a little flat and lifeless not to mention that the way that they ARE animated is also unexpressive, but that's just my opinion
I recently watched Leo with my brother and usually my brother doesn’t like movies that I do but he actually really liked the movie even though he doesn’t really like movies with a lot of songs
I LOVED the movie! I really teared up during it a few times, as an aspiring teacher the story really spoke to me. Normally I don't appreciate movies of this sorts as much, but this one hit home with me 🥹❤️
Crazy that adam fucking sandler was the guy to run a movie that obliterated disney. This movie looks actually really interesting, and your art is great! You guys should be proud, you out-disney’d disney!
It makes sense you worked on some of the character designs. I always liked your character designs and I think that was kind of why I made it trough the movie. It was the best part of the movie, imo
