Shinee did get hate when this came out. There was a petition to remove both Taemin and Jonghyun from Shinee. Jonghyun responded by posting, a photograph from the performance of Taimen and him holding their arms up in the air handcuffed. No doubt the public reaction had something to do with there being no official video of this performance. But for me as a Shawol, this performance is one of many, dare I say off the beaten path of conventional k-pop, why I loved this group.. They, especially Jonghyun and Taimen with this performance, really were brave at a time when there were few allies.

Jonghyun and Taemin's performance of "Internet War" is from SHINee's SHINee World Concert II (SWC2) from 2012, so Taemin is about 18 years old here. At the time, Jonghyun's and Taemin's performance was super controversial and they got a lot of backlash from the public for the underlying LGBTQ undertones of their performance. With Korea's conservative society, the mainstream public thought this performance was unbecoming of an idol and there were even some people that thought Jonghyun and Taemin should be kicked out of the group because of it. (Which is one reason why this was one of their only performances and why there are only fancam videos.) However, it didn't phase Jonghyun. In true Jonghyun style, as an answer to all the hate, he changed his online profile picture to a picture of him and Taemin handcuffed together with their arms raised in the air. Their performance is a cover of a song by a well know first generation artist. (SHINee are second gen.) This was a special stage during this concert tour and Jonghyun and Taemin never did any other performances or recordings of this song. Unfortunately, the only audio recording you are going to find of this song may be the original artists singing the song. I don't believe any of Jonghyun's tattoos you can see in this performance were real, they are just words and phrases that were drawn on for this performance. However, Jonghyun did have a few real tattoos. Next to R&B, rock is one of SHINee's best music styles. They often have rock sections in their concerts and they do a lot of rock remixes of some of their classics. Just search SHINee live rock remix and you will see all the concert performances of songs you have heard, but the songs will sound different because they are done with a rock style. Taemin and Jonghyun have performed a lot of super sexy songs in concert. Jonghyun and Taemin were very brave in this performance and after all the hate they received! 🔥 I LOVE that SHINee just ignores any kind of homophobic speech or accusation, especially Jjong who has always shown support and talked about it openly on the radio show he was the announcer! Thank you so much for your reaction, this song is originally by Seo Taiji Boys and I highly recommend reading the lyrics to understand the vibe of the performance a little (besides appreciating Jonghyun's wonderful body and aggressive interactions)

THIS was my KPOP introduction. I’ve been Shawol about three+ years now. I know I had a late start, but I actively avoided KPOP due to toxic Twitter stans being super freaking annoying. I’d also only really been exposed to clips of GG, which I’m not really into (no hate at all…it’s just not my preferred sound). Anyhow… a friend of mine posted a short clip of “Internet War”, which I didn’t even realize was KPOP. Don’t get me wrong, I love and adore Jonghyun SO MUCH and he was undeniably beautiful and freaking SEXXXY in that performance (and all others), but Taemin had me scrambling to find out WHO this captivating, glorious angel was…especially as I’m the type to pull hair rather than have mine pulled, if ya know what I mean, and his reaction was electrifying. 😂 Fortunately, I was just killing time when I came across the clip and had time to spare, so I immediately went to Google and RU-vid to find out everything I could. It started with JjongTae, then TaeKai, Taemin’s solo works, SuperM (because of TaeKai), then I found SHINee and it was practically a religious experience. I stanned Taemin, SHINee, and SuperM within a couple hours…I can’t even tell you how many hours I spent doing research and watching videos, but I couldn’t and CAN’T get enough. I’m definitely in this for life. 💎

I could only listen to this song because it was covered by SHINee and their performance is art and acting. If only people (haters) could understand why this theatrical performance was put out like that was because of the lyrics, it would be more understanding why they did what they did, yet the title itself should be explainable enough: "Internet War". More so, SHINee is the only group who would do this bold acting on stage, even though it is not their original song. Their legacy, originality, creativity and art is still on top today unmatched; they are stronger than any comments of hate-critiques. Keep up the good work, and I will wait for more SHINee reaction from you ;D
