WOW!!!! Professor Saad, I am so impressed how much I learn from your "chats", sir. I just found your videos a few days ago, and cant get enough. Your guests are so cogent, the information is delivered with clarity from your side and the guests', and the overall delivery makes me want to know so much more about my world and how it's changing. Thank you for always dealing in integrity when your views differ from that of your guests, every "chat" is an example of how lovingly we humans can coexist in conversation! You are RAD, Gad! Blessings and hugs from California :)

This was excellent. I read Gloria Steinem's autobiography when I was in high school. I was a self described feminist, as was my mother. This was one of the saddest books I had ever read. I thought "My God, THIS is the woman who is my ideological leader?". This is when I began to question the feminist movement.

@Meister Incognito - you asked why it happens, not if it should happen. I don't think it should happen. You can't deny the reason why it happens just because you dislike it though.
@WorthlessWinner
@WorthlessWinner 4 года назад
@Meister Incognito - You didn't ask "should men be treated like work mules," you asked "Why are men treated like work mules." These are incredibly different questions and you don't seem to see that. I agree that men should not be treated this way (I'm a mgtow, so I couldn't stop laughing when you said "You ... have a very clear gynocentric worldview") but what should happen doesn't explain why people treat men as disposable utilities. We evolved to do that, because women are the limiting factor for reproduction (which explains female hypergamy, etc, as well). We can only start to fix the problem if we recognize it's real causes. Insisting people must be secret feminists for pointing out why men aren't valued is counter productive if you actually value men's rights.

As much as I loved University and agree with Saad about the importance of education (sorry Jayden Smith) I have seen exactly what Christina speaks of. I became so disillusioned with academia because it IS a closed circle of thinkers who create a microcosm of reality where no other opinions are allowed to exist. Not all academia, I had ALOT of good profs at UofM, but honestly, they were hitting their 70's and died off! The next generation of profs were just so politicized, everything changed. Instead of being Political Studies, it became Political Indoctrination. No questions, only answers. I loved my older profs as I never once knew how they voted or what they believed in, they gave us the guidelines and support to discuss and ponder truth through dialectics. The profs who killed academia took over and it became learning through diatribe. I respect you both Dr. Saad and Dr. Sommers, but I worry that your objectivity is an endangered species. Because of your courage to speak the truth gives me the courage to keep living in truth. I will not hide my name and I will proudly wear their slurs as a badge of honour. I pity these people, I will never give into hate.

BTW Gad, it hit me recently that I have witnessed the erosion of competition over the last 40 years or so. It started with simple things, dropping Participaction type school programs (fitness testing, essentially), taking out dodge ball, scoreless games, etc. Now it has taken big strides in areas like gender parity initiatives vis-a-vis meritocracies in government cabinets (waives to PM Selfie), employment diversity quotas, affirmative action programs and a clear target on the mother of all competition, capitalism. I find it an interesting concept, any thoughts on this?

Some good points raised. Patriarchy aside, The Beauty Myth made good points about the cosmetic industry. Naomi Wolf's research was extensive. Patriarchy was the buzz word 90's feminism, and still is today. It was the channeled rhetoric in liberal arts courses. All criticism and grievance to be on white and specifically white men, colonialism etc. Hierarchy of oppression has thus resulted in the nebulous "diversity training." The empirical political litmus test for: a person's stance on Israel. Protecting Zionism and Israel from criticism will not stop anti semitism. Many documented human rights violations committed by the IOF exist. Israeli policy policy and how it treats Palestinians should not be off limits to criticism, especially in a democratic society. Conversely, crimes against humanity in many parts of the world, in communist, socialist and Islamic society also continue to be ignored.

In 1991 I was told "When we study ethnicity I'm not bringing in a racist!" I simply ask when we were to hear the"other side"after 7 feminists had given months of lectures under the label of 'gender and critical theory" She followed it up with a letter to the editor finishing with "How sad it is that these men will be the teachers of the future" It was just me , I told her I didn't want to become a masculinist in reply ,,I was struggling for words to describe my lived experience of boys falling behind.Where were you Gaad when I needed you?Not just you Where was Warren and Paul and Janice and Jorden...I did become a teacher but it took my balls,so I can say without shame "I love you Gaad" but I love Erin more and Camille ,of course like Ayn their work was hidden from us

This is the way to go. I never liked it when GamerGate started to get attention of news reporters who were claiming to be fair and open. The only way to actually fight back against regressives is to hammer them with facts and the truth, standards of education and research. I thank you and Sommers for being the learned people that you are and not letting them get away with it. I try to talk to people about this all the time where I live, most are shocked when they start to notice it. Everyone can help but people like the two of you mean a great deal. Hey Gad, I've been wondering about something for a while... With you being a University Professor, and I can only assume the University you work in has a gender studies class/dept, does this mean you come into contact on a daily basis with colleagues in your work place who know you are AGAINST everything they stand for? After watching some of your videos recently I've said to myself, "Oh NO, Gad is going to get in trouble with the Social Sciences crowd in work for what he says". Im genuinely curious how your rising profile in this area affects your day to day interactions in work. And if you are at all worried that students in your university will cause you problems? I hope the powers that be in Universities can see this situation for what it is, but recent events in some american universities have shown that the people with control on campus almost always cower in the face of these radical students, and almost always someone ends up losing their jobs.

As a gay man, coming out was the most liberating thing I have ever done. I felt like I can finally not be shamed for my sexuality. I don't advertise to everyone what I like to see, but I do answer people if they are curious. I feel like women felt the same kind of liberation for their sexuality. But now I do not like seeing how heterosexual men are being shamed for their sexuality. Surely don't be a douche and harass or assault women, but don't shame them for looking and wanting intimacy!

As a psychiatrist I find the Munchhausen hypothesis reasonable, although it is reserved for individual diagnosis, not cultural. the attention seeking underbelly is correct and related to narcissism and can be seen in many children, hopefully to be grown out of. So it is a metaphor or comparison but very relevant in pursuit of understanding.

What also compounds this "victim" culture is how people can be emotionally reactionary. I'm sure many have initially said or wrote something during a heated exchange which on later reflection they regret. E.g . When emotions rule our head it can lead to acts of love and acts of hate. Studies have shown that humans make a more balanced assessment when they are being more thoughtful ( time to think it through) compared to the more faster/instinctive response when their emotions are ruling their head. Of course both methods, reactionary and considered response are components of the human psychology and have there context dependent advantages. E.g. The instinctive quick reaction to cuddle a child when the child is injured and the more considered response to not chastise,but explain the error to the child.e.g,teach, when the child does something ignorant due to their lack of experience. Science of course is using the considered human psychology whilst laughing at a joke tends to be more towards the reactionary emotional response .

It may be a maxim that the degree to which almost all those who vociferously, even violently, "defend" their opinions and strongly held "truths" and biases is proportional to the weakness of their positions. I encounter this, for example, with some of my newly-expat Chinese students fresh from their post-Tiananmen education and Internet censorship bubble face discussions about modern Asian history in Tokyo classrooms.
@CoalCoalJames
@CoalCoalJames 8 лет назад
As a sufferer of multiple mental condition's this was fascinating, I've often made arguments and cited my problems and how being coddled is not the way I overcame some serious mental problems. Tho I still get the odd dumb fuck assuming because I'm open about my experiences that I'm a regressive =P Seeing this confirmed what I already suspected, some people are just looking for basic indicators and by relying on an indicator such as admitting to illnesses, one could be missclasifyed, and this is where I draw a parallel to how toxic feminism is hurting other women by proxy (as discussed in the video). At this point I'm thinking that anything tied to regressive politics and ideology is hurting everything they say they are trying to protect and it gives me quite the sick feeling inside. In short. basically, once it gets discussed by regressive's, people no longer take that topic seriously over time and that hurts whatever cause they are talking about.

Niclas J.W. You're an idiot if you equate illusory man made up borders with a whole group of people. You also realize that Jewish people are not the only ethnic group residing in Israel either by the way. Israel is home to many different people. You can be against a government and it's policies and it has nothing to do with the people who live there. I'm Canadian, I'm anti Canadian government (in terms of it is a corrupt and criminal institution), doesn't mean I'm anti all people who happen to live within these borders. I'm also anti American government (in terms of it is also a corrupt, criminal, hegemonic institution), doesn't mean I'm anti everyone who lives in America. That's backwards, nonsensical, simpleton thinking.

Okay, not to go all patriarchal, but in the event with Christina, Milo, and Crowder, Steve was the only one to stand up and get it these morons' faces. Christina tried to speak prolitely, Milo went into passive aggressive, but Crowder got up in their collective faces. It's like in that movie scene when Indie confronts the sword-wielding Arab. He just pulls out his gun and shoots him. They, and you know who they are, exploit polite discourse. We need more Indies or more Crowders.

I like the somewhat positive note toward the end, that some liberal feminists are opposing the nonsense. Perhaps one day we'll convince them (and Based Mom) to leave feminism, and embrace everyone in gender egalitarianism. There's no room for shortcuts of due process or curtailing of liberties in egalitarianism, which is merely about equal opportunity.

+Aaron Botton 250 to 260. IQ and common sense don't always come together, and the level of common sense and intellectual honestly here is very high indeed.

+Aaron Botton Nah, that's 175 each. That puts them both _five_ standard deviations above the mean, or in the upper 0.00001% of the population. That's one in ten million for both of them. I'd guess a combined 280 to 300.

+Dan D Yes, 175 is way over. Here is my heuristic for this: look at the primary topics selected for discussion if: = discuss concepts that it takes at least IQ 125+ to basically comprehend THEN over 160 (sigma 4+) = discuss meta-abstractions and the principles upon which principles are built THEN under 160 (about 3 SD over average = discuss abstract ideas and principles THEN under 145 (about 2 SD over average) = discuss ideas THEN under 125 (about 1 SD over average) = discuss events THEN under 115 (average) = discuss people THEN under 90 (about 1 SD under average) = incoherent/trouble conveying anything clearly THEN under 70 (about 2 SD under average)
@ChollieD

Kon Berner That's a nice, simple model. But I'm not sure what you mean by your description of the top tail (160+). Could you give an example of a topic that it takes 125+ to basically comprehend, yet takes 160+ to coherently discuss? (Or you could make it recursive by saying that I didn't basically comprehend your heuristic. :P)

I attended a seminar at college a few years ago where a Muslim girl stated that arranged marriages were a good thing as 'even ugly girls got a husband', and she was serious.

Jacqui Layton You must be a girl, because I'm a man and I'm just thinking: 'Lucky guy'. Believe it or not, feminism is destroying monogamy.

I was wondering if there are studied comparing people who are for whatever reason angry all the time with those who are mostly peaceful and phlegmatic. What does long-term exposure to "anger hormones" do to men, and what does it do to women by the time they get old? Anybody knows?

Gad's question regarding if they are low on the sexual pecking order has some validity, yes for some, but also some are traumatized, which is another explaination for the blue hair, not shaving, propensity to be overweight and such. Many women purposefully make themselves unattractive to men to get away from unwanted male attention. Sometimes I think this is subconscious. But also explains man-hate. It feels more powerful to hate/shit on men, rather than to fear them.

Regarding benevolent sexism, it's not so much the *observation* that bothers me as the conclusions they draw. Of *course* it's "sexist" to prefer one sex over another (by definition), just as it's "racist" to prefer one skin color over another (like babies reacting badly to people who don't look like their mother). But if you're going to draw *any* conclusions about benevolent sexism, surely it should be along the tack of "will feel less comfortable criticizing women than men" or "will be less inclined to help men than women". Not "is sexist and therefore oppressing women" or whatever they're using these measures to decide.

I do agree with much of what is said here. I believe it is also important to take into consideration the community one lives in. I am a Canadian. The city I live in is not with the times or the we have in place in Canada. I am in mid north B.C. It is getting better but it still has far to go. it is not just sexist, it also racist. In the city I live it is not wise to be a woman and be out at dark. This is even more the case if the woman is First Nations. in the work force women offten get paid less if they are not doing traditional womens work. It is a fact of life here.....How does one impliment positive change. What seems to be happening now is everyone is jumping on the "You are a man hating radical feminist" if you try to just inform a woman of her rights as a Canadian........ I wittness it alot where a woman has a beat up face and people are condemning her for having the guy charged ( it is not up to her if he is charged or not). Looking at her beat up face and accusing her of lieing. So how do we find balance. How do we keep things about what is humane and go forward. Not man against women. Or a matter of skin color. Just having a person's rights as a Canadian put up front and empowering people.
