That layered chorus outro is SO good. This is the closing track to The Black Parade, which is a concept album. I don’t know if you ever want to listen to the whole thing beginning to end, but it’s a RIDE and pretty glorious.

The making of this video was a feat unto itself. They shot it the day after shooting the video for Welcome to the Black Parade. The band members went all out. Gerard at one point was takled by, I think Mikey and tore his Tendon. One guitarist broke a finger and the drummer developed blisters on his haands from playing so much over two days and then, since he was closest to the fire on the back... In the last scene of the video, the fire gets HUGE, the drummer ended up with 3rd degree burns and had to be admitted to the hospital. The band was forced to cancel a show because of it all. There is a "Making of" video out there for both videos... They are a great watch.

I think if you would hear the whole album (tracks in correct order), knowing meaning of songs and overall concept, you would probably cry at the end like crazy

I'll never forget when I was a teenager and I was having some issues, We used to have MTV and I would replay the build up over and over again and SCREAM it when my parents thankfully weren't home and just cry singing it as loud as possible. I think this song saved me a few times.

Something I’ve always heard going around about this song, is that Gerard (the singer) wrote this to/about his little brother Mikey (the bassist) because he was dealing with some mental health stuff, and wanted to leave the band at some point. That Mikey would at times sleep on a futon next to Gee when stuff was tough and whatnot. I could be wrong though, but it just gives it a whole different meaning and spin to the song 💔 lovely reaction!

Mikey actually did leave for a short time during the recording of this album. gerard said this song is written as a conversation between him and mikey about the whole situation 💜

When they were recording this album they had rented a mansion that was notorious for being haunted. Mikey's bedroom was supposedly separate from everyone else's and was known as one of the most haunted of the rooms. Mikey wasn't comfortable in the room so he slept on the floor in Gerard's room. Gerard also said at one time that at the time of writing the song, not only was the stuff with Mikey leaving the band but Gerard was in the process of breaking up with his girlfriend and that influenced the song as well

To help understand the video. The Black Parade album as a whole is one's journey through cancer. It's a concept album.

You’ll love “I’m not okay” and “I don’t love you”, their well is deep! I’m an oldie at 60 but my kids were obsessed with them so I’d listen to what they were listening too. My daughter still reaches for her eyeliner when she hears the G chord. Their entire body of work is intricate and amazing. Listen to “Helena” and “Teenagers” too. Gerard Ways phrasing drives their sound but Mickey, Ray and Frank are right on. If you are in the mood for a good cry listen to the song “Cancer”.

They are the band that makes conceptual albums, so usually they dress up to kind of go all into it and represent and act as characters in the story that particular album is telling. In Black Parade era they even used "Black Parade" as a band name while playing life shows. They are very theatrical so costumes are just a part of their art, I'd say. As a background to the song, lead singer wrote it for his brother, who is a bassist of mcr, in order to make him stay in the band, when he considered leaving it. "I see you laying next to me, with words i though id never speak, aveke and unafraid..." was a reference to the time that band spend in hounted mansion while working on this album and Way brothers often ended up sleeping in the same room. I dont wanna get into too much detail, cause im already rambling lol, but main message of the song is to stay alive and keep going, because you are strong enough to do that. It's my favourite band and Im really happy that you appreciate singer's voice, because it was the first thing that caught my attention when I started to losten to them for the first time, years ago :D. Good reaction also, i love taht you give a lot of your own thoughts both about video and music :>

This song is liberating for those grieving! I've blared this on repeat after family members died in hospitals. For me, it's saying goodbye to someone on a death bed -- the lyrics move through all the stages of grief in random order (and the stages of grief don't necessarily have a sequential order): denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. It helps me feel my feelings of grief, deeply, and then feel comfort from the chorus -- I need to be tough and keep on living, and nothing I can say (or do) can stop the dead from going "home" (in my mind, the afterlife). For me, the line that hits hardest is what I experienced in moments of clarity for all three of my big losses: "I see you lying net to me" -- for me, that was me seeing them in their hospital beds looking horrifically ill -- "With words I thought I'd never speak awake and unafraid, "Asleep, or dead?" I've had those moments where I wasn't sure whether my loved ones were asleep in their hospital beds or had already passed when I arrived in the ICU, and I had to ask the doctors/nurses whether they were asleep or dead. I was "awake and unafraid" partly because I was having a moment of clarity that they were absolutely and inevitably going to die very soon, partly because I was in shock, and I was astonished that I could ask so calmly. The push at the end is that I have to keep on living, I couldn't do anything to keep them alive, and I need to accept they're going "home" without me. I highly recommend this song as therapeutic to anyone fighting the overwhelm of the stages of grief. You fight it, but you have to feel it, and you have to let go (even if you scream and cry for hours -- or years -- to get to acceptance). Thank you for your reactions to MCR songs. I truly appreciate the way you dig in deep to their songs, musically, emotionally, and lyrically.

In relation to the rest of the concept album, this song is the "final hurrah!" for the Patient. The Patient is finally facing death and MCR has this song as it's finale in a sense that you can make your own decision as to what happened to him. Did the Patient beat his cancer or did he fall victim to it? I hope you sit and listen through the whole album and get the complete story

The whole album is a mix of the leader of the parade basically a reaper having a back and forth with a young cancer patient. The rock openings and rock heavy songs are the leader and the more somber songs is the patient speaking

Last month I started to get more interested in mcr when I heard this song. It's an excellent band, gerard's voice is incredible, the concepts of the albums are interesting and they have good music videos. I recommend that you react to "Helena" and "the ghost of you" I think your channel is one of the best video reaction channels, keep it up.

Welcome to the black parade kind of encompasses the album as a whole, and famous last words is the last song on the album, besides the hidden song "blood", and it helps wrap the album up nicely. They filmed wttbp and famous last words pretty much back to back in the span of two days or so.

MCR is a good group. Never one of my favorite bands but i do really appreciate their music. This also happens to be my favorite song by them and in my opinion there best song ever. So much emotion in the intro alone! And yes, the costumes are a theme that carries throughout every song/video from this album.

This really is my favorite MCR song, and just one of my favorite songs period, for every point you so perfectly mentioned! Gerard Way is also a comic book author, so he's absolutely incredible at storytelling, through both the visuals and the lyrics. There's just nobody doing it like them, and I doubt anybody ever will! If I may please offer a request: Have you possibly reacted to Fall Out Boy? They're very much in a similar vein, the two bands are friends, and Patrick Stump's voice will absolutely blow your mind, if you haven't heard it! "Sugar We're Goin' Down" or "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs" would be a good jumping off point, but their most recent single "So Much (For) Stardust" is an absolute masterpiece, and shows how far they've come in finding their own voice!

This video is by far the best evvuuur, the theatrical Gerard that is giving in this is outstanding. I've watched it maby too many times, but my counter says 74. Not too many then. I've been a fan since 2006,tinsy bit late to the party. But what is fantastic is that they're still getting new fans. Their latest tour also put them like never before on the map to stand up for every queer kid out there. They've always done that, but after so many years without them it was the best thing ever too me atleast. Hugs from Sweden.
