Lord and Taylor converted to Meryvn's before 1998. I can remember being a freshman in high school (1992) and my mom shopping there on our many trips. My oldest son was born in 1995 and I loved going there because they always carried the brand shorts I loved wearing..... Great video, though. Spent a lot of my teenage years here!
It was Mervyn's when I was in school, and I graduated in 91. Also the food court was there long before 92! The mall was named for the county it resides in (Collin) and the creek ( Spring Creek) that flows beneath it. Spring Creek is NOT man made. It is fed from natural springs. It begins near Independence and Legacy, and flows Southeast until it joins with Rowlett Creek in Sachse.
That was one of my childhood malls. It is the one that I went to every single weekend of my childhood and my middle school years. Breaks my heart to see it go. I grew up in Richardson so my other childhood malls were Prestonwood Mall, Valley View mall and those are now gone. My first mall was in the 70's and Northpark Center is still there and so is my later childhood mall The Dallas Galleria. Northpark Center and Galleria and the ones holding strong. So are the newer malls in Plano but those were built after I was grown so they hold no nostalgia for me.
My mom and I shopped at that mall every weekend when I was little. She taught me how to use a credit card. She passed away in 2016. Very cool that your grandmother taught you how to order food. I love it.
Holy crap this is where I ordered my first McDonald's too. I didn't even remember till you said it. I have memories of playing with my toys while my mom shopped for clothes in this mall and memories of being a mall rat with my high school friends too. I had lots of good times there. It's sad to see it go but glad y'all are making filming the mall before it's gone. I really like dead mall videos.
Thanks for posting and sharing your memories. The closing down of malls is nationwide due to e-commerce - quite sad actually. Though there still are malls very active currently, one has to wonder just how long they will continue.
I was a teenage mall rat here and used to buy the junk jewelry at that Claire's when I was younger. Later I always went to the Gadzooks where the Music place shown in the vid is across from the Zales. That's where I bought my first girlfriend a ring, which I still have some 18 years later.
