My classic mini has been quite frankly one of the worst investments ive ever made! BUT we're invested! So its time to find out what else is wrong! if you have a classic mini let me know how yours is gioing!

Going similar with mine, got it in June, a 1988 Mini City, was last on the road in 2012, has had a lot done, got it as an unfinished project, but still needs a lot, found rust above the rear subframe so that will need to come off, also bad repairs in the rear arches will need redone, i've had quite a few Mini's in the past though, was also a Mechanic and MOT tester way back in the 90's so that helps a bit.

Happened with my classic mini as well, small hole in the drivers side floor, someone previously put on oversills which has caused the usual rust. Mini is now being cut back to weld in new panels and learning to weld as I go. Missing be out on the road to Tighnabruich. Looking to get all repaired over winter so I can hopefully enjoy the sun.

You need to cut those front inner wheel arches to run those wheels properly

Totally agree. All arches are getting removed, replaced and done properly!

I would look at finding a MOT garage that understands/works on classic cars because some of those issues are a bit extreme. I am in Glasgow and happy to help with any questions or if you ever get stuck mate.

@@classicminiscotland that's very good of you mate. Would definitely appreciate a chat. I agree about some of the issues. Whilst there's definitely some big ones in there there also some tuff I think probably shouldn't have been included.

Given the mot may have been a bit heavy handed , it’s still helpful to get a worst case scenario. The rear subframe is a fairly easy job, just watch for the bolts that mount towards the rear seats as they can be a real,pain… mine had ally bolts going into a steel section,and needed careful drilling out. Also might be worth thinking about what type of bushes to use ie rubber v/s poly. Pre the next mot worth taking it to a tyre place with full alignment and tracking kit to get the steering and tracking spot on. Make sure you get the correct sills with the breathing gussets, as the alternative ones trap moisture.

Totally agree. At least I've got "another " list to work through. I'm actually going to look at removing the rear subframe frame today. Always bewildered by why car manufacturers make ally bolts that touch steel. Are there any sellers that you would recommend for the cills? Thanks again for the advice.

Hey, subscribed to your channel, love your vids on your mini as IV got a couple of minis. Feel your pain on working on your mini , when you've think it's sorted and something come back to haunt you, I'm in the same boat, keep up the good work, it will get better, stu.

Discoloured means they’re not flashing orange so new orange bulbs needed, good time to get LEDs 👌🏻

The mini electrics getting wet at the front and cutting out is a well known issue, British Leyland cured the problem with a splash guard which attaches to three brackets, two on the rocker cover head bolts and one at the bottom of the engine block. It looks like you're is missing?

@@deltafoxtrot2 Yeah definitely don't have that. I'll stick it on my to buy list. Will be taking the rear subframe off this week to see how bad the rust is.

Parking brake is the handbrake… Probably needs a heel board… They all need sills 😂 I did similar, bought a pretty Mini with 12 months MOT and it turned out to be rotten as a peach. It’s been seven years doing it up… it’s been back on the road one week 👍

@@RookieRestorations Yeah, the yellow fades off them over time, you can get a wee jar of yellow light tint and paint them.

No indicators, no horn, seats barely bolted in and its rotten...definitely the MOT tester 😂
