I love the Key Gatekeeping folks.. Its always fun when the non-collectors pull out some graded key to hate on you without any raw books. Then you pull out a raw copy in better condition and all the consecutive books around it.. You ask them, "have you read these books yet?" then they look at you and say "I havent even read this one, its in a case". I don't feel I'm better than anyone else but Its interesting how people value their collections and judge others. Maybe its part of the fun of collecting? Most collectors will tell you straight.. (Golden rule) "Just collect what you like".

My collection is MY collection. I don't think it's better or worse than anyone's collection. I think it's really cool to see things I DON'T have.

For how long I've been collecting on and off for about 30 years my collection is pretty modest compared to a lot of peoples, but I do have some fantastic books that I am very happy with. I buy what I can afford when I see it at a good price. I don't think my collection is better in any way than anyone else's that's for sure but it always put's a smile on my face when I look through it so that's all that matters. Its a scale, there will always collections that make your look good and others that make you feel like you have a LONG way to go. The "flex" collections just motivate me to keep improving.

To me, A good collection is a collection of my favorite books that I want to collect, regardless of the condition.

I have a large Marvel collection, from the Silver age on up, but mostly reader copies , nothing special, I like rereading them, nothing slabbed. Any keys I have are because I bought them off the spinners, or part of a run I was filling before the key became a key. I know I'll never get the AF #15's or FF#1's or any of that major stuff, but I'm good with that.

The beginning of this video had me wondering what question they were answering, I guess they wrote their own one and answered it. 🙃 I buy comics because I like to read them, collecting them and cataloging them is a happy accident, that I also find fun! Mine is better than yours is for the playground which I left over 50 years ago! Also I think your wall display and the cabinets, are brilliant, wish I had a room big enough to do the same, not that I have all those keys!

Tbh. I focused on collecting books I’m interested in then books that are in abundance in every comic shop or live. Working on getting a asm 14 and asm annual 1 and I’m done!

I started collecting a couple of years ago & I started with Spider-Boy... Then I saw a video where this dude was talking about what a piece of crap Spider-Boy really is & this ticked me off. I even commented on the video telling the creator to go watch JAWS 4 : The Revenge! (Which if you know, it's the worst thing you can wish upon anyone.) But then a few weeks passed by & I started to notice that the dude from the video was actually telling me the truth & I was just throwing away my money by buying every single Spider-Boy book.

Yeah…I just buy what I like and characters I like. I’ve only really ever bought a couple spec books…not my thing. I tend to hunt the rarer stuff (mark jewelers, price variants, double covers, deep color strikes etc)…the hunt is the fun part…looking for books in specific grades and rarity. There’s real not wrong way to collect or to say someone else’s collection is superior. Only way it would be superior is money wise. But whatever. Great video sir! Keep them coming 🪿

Why they don't put their books on display?

First you need to answer the question of what is the best collection?? Most collectors will have varying opinions on the best collection. If one even exists. Value or rarity? Grades or eye appeal? Graded or ungraded which is really asking the question of "can you even read them"? In the words of smart collectors "love what you have not what you want".

I feel like I have an okay collection. I had more big key books in the past. Unfortunately I've had to sell some for financial reasons. So there are a lot of more expensive comic collections out there than mine. I do like collecting a lot of books that are not mega keys i.e. the First appearance of the Face on Mars and the Tick. So are we saying best or most expensive?

I just collect and read what I love (mostly DC), And I don't give a crap about anyone else's collection.

The day I see a Golden Age . 9.8 Batman 1 or 9.8 Captain America Comics 1 then I’ll be impressed . I would rather see books that I haven’t seen on RU-vid. My Comic Collection is the greatest collection in the world because I own it.

The voting results are interesting buy yeah, the poll is probably inaccurate, or perhaps the question is just too broad. For instance, if I am comparing my collection to modern day collectors who chase 9.8s, then my collection sucks. I have no interest in that. I primarily have collected Silver and Bronze Age comics over my collecting career. With respect to those books, I suspect my collection is above-average, but I certainly have seen collectors with much better collections than mine. But overall I am pretty happy with my collection.

I’m just starting out and my collection is small. And I really don’t care about the “mines bigger and better than yours” mentality, nor will I ever. I’ve met and become friends with a lot of really cool people in this hobby and I always try to show appreciation of what they have and what they collect. These people have also taught me a lot, because I listen and appreciate what they are saying. And those shallow and insecure little people who feel the need to step on others to make themselves feel better are really not worth a shit, so ignore them. When you do, it upsets them because you are not giving the attention or reverence they think they deserve. It strips them of the power you give them and leaves them even more insecure. Let those kind of snakes devour themselves.

I collect comics just for the cover art. I don't care about keys, slabs, signatures, first issues ect. I collect what covers I like and that's it. Alot of people might think that is weird but it's what I like.

I had a decent collection till it was time too get a house decent books I like in high grade. I was happy with it . Silver surfer 4 in 9.4 was my favorite. I loved the comic community and was in too it for the love of it why be a snob.

A RU-vid channel comment section is not a viable place to hold a poll. Only a fraction of collectors will watch any comic video, and the video is forgotten the day after its release (for the most part). The truth is the guy with the biggest wallet has the best collection. That is true with material possessions.

I have almost 8000 comics. But the number doesn't mean very much to me. It's about the keys. I'm all about getting the hard to find stuff. Not the dollar value of it all. Because this is just a hobby for me. It's not my 401k. A good collection is if it has the rare books.

I have a great collection I’m sure I have books others dream of having but then there are others who will not care! If your collection is great to you it’s not about someone else’s. I watched you talk about ppl in the hobby who use independent graders. That does come off very “Catty” which we know is not masculine at all. You can have your view without hating on someone else’s. Well, every collector wants to brag, but deep down, the majority of them would be lying to themselves! Sure, not everyone can afford big key issues that's a 9.8 or better! We would like to but, depending on your financial situation, 9 times out of 10, it's not happening! Also, since comic values have gone up and down like an elevator or the stock market, certain titles suffer regardless! I have collected for over 40 years and do I think my collection is better? Hell no! Most would be considered average to mid grade, with some that would be considered a 1.0 to a possible 3, if lucky! I would like to sell my collection someday , but to be honest, it breaks my heart as to how their is so much fighting within the comic book community when it comes to a topic like this! Can't we learn a lesson from Jim from Bronzeville Comics when he tells his RU-vid followers, "Enjoy your comics!"? Or is the community doomed to destroying each other from the inside out? Only time will tell

A collection is a collection, I don't know what the other guy likes, you might have a man who collects nothing but ARCHIES or STAR WARS, How am I gonna say his collection sucks because he collects ARCHIES and I collect back issue DC and MARVEL...he might think my collection sucks. It may not be my taste but I will never say another persons collection sucks...as long as you take pride in what u do, THATS IT! If you enjoy your books and are following a great storyline like the DARK PHEONIX SAGA, thats all that matters, you are having fun and enjoying them. These guys who are saying they collection is better probably dropped mega bucks on sum keys, got them CGC'd but have no idea what the ongoing story is about. Sure you got a 9.8 AMAZING SPIDERMAN #300 in a CGC, but do you know the story behind VENOM? where did he come from? whats is purpose? how did Peter defeat him? I passed on 2 keys the other day, GI JOE #1 and ETERNALS #1, I have no interest in those books, I never followed the ETERNALS and I knew it was something I was not gonna read and I will be damned if I buy a book because of a (bad) movie...I will not buy these books just to upgrade my collection and brag in a you-tube video nor will I ever compare and say mine is better than yours (too old for that) By the way...some guys on here got GOLD in there houses, from what I seen on you-tube...there are some real HEAVY HITTERS on here that I can't even touch, boxes full of GOLDEN AGES, IST APPEARENCES, MAJOR SILVER AGE KEYS. Maybe that's why they're not the douches u expected to see reflected. Also, I don't look at my collection as being better than others as a binary thing- it is better than others in the sense that it's fine tuned to my personal preferences, but if put up against everyone else's in a majority vote for BEST COLLECTION EVER, I don't see it ever making top 100. And I'm not only fine with that, I'm happy with that.
