What was your coming out experience like?

Austin And Patrick my Coming out story involved me forcing myself to come out when I wasn't ready but I probably wouldn't be out if I hadn't done that.

My parents found out because they saw a text about me talking about a cute guy at school last year when I was 13 and they accepted me because I’m me haha

My fraternity rallied behind me and it was great. Even though my extend family would love me to burn, my parents are super supportive. Moved away from that hole in Arkansas to British Columbia and life is so much better.

I’m actually in middle school and when I came out it was like whatever. People would ask me you’re gay? And I would be like uh hyeah. Most boys would ask me so many questions that cracked me up. When I came out to my mom it was right after an embarrassing encounter so I kinda had to so we had a talk the next morning. Lol it was so bad. When I came out to my dad I dropped hints to him when he was explained how all male actors are gay to my uncle. So when I said I was in drama class he stared at me and when he dropped me off at my grandmas house he sat with me in the car and asked are you gay? And I said yes I am. He was so confused he was like I’m pretty sure it’s a faze but I laughed at him and said nopeeeeee trust me Its not. So he made me make sure I was gay. But it wasn’t bad sometimes I get some comments but if i Do t give two shits about them I would chew them up and spit them back out. I have very supportive friends one is bisexual and one is lesbian another is mar But we all are inseparable and we can be ourselves. Well that was my story I really liked your story it was amazing!!! I’m so happy everything went well for you Patrick I love you guys!

My coming out was a trip. My sister several years ago found a dirty magazine in my room. I was at the time 18, she took the book to my mom and said look Zach is Gay. Well long story short I was outed by her. Loved your story.

Last Saturday i watched Love simon with 2 of my older sisters and my older brother and i loved it so much but afterwards at home i was thinking how the main character is going to have a great life and has love and nobody is against him that matters so it made me quite sad and my family noticed,i was quite sad to know my mum wouldn’t accept me, the next morning I was so sad i was crying and my mum was asking me why i was sad and she was getting quite worried so I eventually gathered up the courage to tell her im gay. She still loves me but she doesn’t agree with it because of religion and stuff so she isn’t letting me be with a guy and she thinks i can turn straight with prayer and stuff but i know who i am and now i am just kind of sad, maybe someday if i find a great guy then he can make me forget that there are close people who don’t accept me.(i have told my brother and he is more on the “i still see you as i always have” side and i still have 4 sisters and a dad to tell when i’m ready, wish me luck)

I’ve been out for over a year now and i am so happy about how comfortable I’ve become and I’ve even helped some people in my year come out. I’m like the gay guy who came out first and all of the other LGBTQ+ teens look up to, i love it. This video and Austins helped me so much when i was in the closet so thank you❤️🥳

The thing I love about this video is that so many coming out videos focus on the negatives of coming out, but I love that you had a great experience AND I think this helps inspire people in the closet, versus scare them like so many other videos do. It truly can go well, as it was portrayed by you!

Thank you guys for sharing! It is so wonderful that you both had such good experiences. I have been out now for about 5 yrs and everyone has been so supportive, but it was not easy getting to where I am. I got married to a woman and had been married 18 yrs when I finally came out. My ex and I are now BFF's but it took her about a year to come around, understandably. The day I came out will be burned into my brain forever. I had gone on a weekend trip with a friend (who by the way I was kind of involved with him) and when I got home my wifr confronted me. Well, I had decided over the weekend when I was with my friend that I couldn't hide anymore so when she ask, "ARE YOU GAY?" I said "YES!" and then began to cry uncontrollably. Then she replied, "I have suspected for 17 years". After what seemed like an eternity, we hugged and she said we would work through it together. We started the divorce process and she gave me 4 months to get myself together and out of the house. Then I had to tell my family. I started with my little sister because we have always been close. She was very happy for me, but was upset that I hadn't talked with her about it while I struggled with my own feelings. She then promptly told my mom and made it her mission for me to tell the rest of the family. Most of the family was like, "we wondered when you would fess up" so all my fear of rejection was for nothing. Fast forward to the present and I have purchased my own home and am currently dating a truly amazing guy. We are both super busy so we only get to see each other about once a week, but we talk and text all the time. I met his family at Christmas and they are all super nice. Their biggest concern is that I am considerably older than their son so they worry about all kinds of things, but we choose to just take it a day at a time. And as for the rest of my friends, they all said the same thing, that they just wondered when I was going to come out. I guess singing with a gay men's chorus for the past 14 yrs must have been a dead give away, but we do have several straight guys who sing with us. The chorus was my salvation. They all knew and were a super support group for me as I struggled with who I really was. They made me realize that being gay is just a small part of who I am and that coming out wouldn't change who I am, it would just complete my story. So there's the Readers Digest version of my coming out. I love hearing all the stories and I also love expanding my circle of friends. Thank you both for sharing!!

You are so lucky your parents were so accepting. Wish mine had been. My mom told me flat out. No son of mine is going to be gay! When I said well I am. She told me,. While you are under my roof, you will NOT talk about it, act upon it, or bring those type of people around. You will act , sound, and behave Normal! , My father never said a word. After I moved out. And got in a relationship. My Mother told me,. He is not allowed in this house! He will Not call you while you are here, you will not call him, nore will you mention his name, or talk about him in anyway. So that was pretty much my parents reaction to my coming out.

when i came out to my parents they weren’t really supportive, they said a lot of bad things, that i should be embaressed, that my sexuality is wrong, etc. still now they can’t accept or respect me. they are always putting me down. we fight a lot and the thing is i’m a minor so yeah i have to live with them and deal with this stuff. with the time all of the things they did and said made me very sad. so i discovered that i have depression. everyday they put me down more and more. :(( the important is i have friends that are very supportive, they make me feel better about it.

I wish I had the courage you two did. Looking back, I wish I would have come out in high school. Even though it was a catholic school, and there would have been drama. I was a wuss about it, lol. When I was 20, I typed a note on the computer and printed one for mom, and one for dad. Put dad's in his lunchbox, and gave mom's to her, then took off for hours. When I got back, mom was pissed off. Not because I was gay, but because my dumb ass said that I didn't want to answer any "stupid questions". She was pissed about her questions being labeled stupid, lol. Dad never said a thing, which was typical. I had already told my little brother. Told him first, because I knew he would want it kept secret more than I did, lol. Wasn't worried about him getting violent. I made sure he was driving, lol. My sister didn't care at all. I'm lucky that my family is awesome, and, I take full credit for expanding my brother's mind about gay people.

Thank you Patrick for sharing. I'm very happy you have complete and total support from your friends and family! It's awesome to hear the "painless" stories. It means there is more hope for the world. :) I can relate to you, with feeling like I can be more empathetic since I came out. For some reason, I associated being compassionate and kind with being "feminine." But it's just being human. As I said on Austin's video, it takes a lot of courage to come out in general, but to share the story on the internet is amazing! Thank you both for sharing your awesome stories! I freaking love your videos!!!

I came out May 2017, I was dating a guy for a month and we ended up getting married. I was 21 and my family was very religious so I was terrified to tell them I was gay. Well, our relationship was getting serious and he asked me to move in with him, so I did. I informed my parents that I was moving in with a "friend" as roommates. We were living together a week and I sent my mom a text, "he's not a friend and we're not just roommates. He's my boyfriend and I'm gay." I received a lot texts back from her about the bible and how I'm going to hell if I don't change. That was the last time I talked to my parents for about 7 months. They finally contacted me around December, but they still won't talk to me about my sexuality otherwise they talk about me finding a girlfriend and it's an argument about me being gay. After I told my parents, I went public with a Facebook post to everyone else. Almost all of my friends were supportive, 1 friend was mad that I didn't tell him in high school. Lol. But there are some people in my family that I haven't talked to since I came out, but it doesn't bother me. I'm happy like this and I wouldn't change it for anyone.

I'm not too sure if I had a coming out experience. When I was almost 16 my mother walked into the bedroom and I was in bed with our residential international student who was a guy and all she said, on the way to the bathroom to change the towels, was 'do you guys need to change the sheets on your beds each week or just this one twice as often'. I so love her for that. Until that point, I have never thought of myself as gay. I just liked him. More than my girlfriend, more than anyone else on the planet. So I decided I must be bi. For many years I denied I was gay, I just liked him, I loved him. I didn't like other guys, just him. 6 years later I understand that I am gay and I am in love with him and engaged to him and we'll be married soon. Labels are for soup though. I love him... and I love our dogs.

Well, actually I do have an issue. I’m gay and my friends know that and they all love me and accept me and that’s great, they’re blessings. However, I have tried twice to come out to my mother and she just flat out denies me and comes at me with “We didn’t raise you that way” or some other homophobic bullshit. I turn 18 next month and I just don’t know what to do about her. Oh, by the way, my father is twice as homophobic as she is. I know who I am. I’m proud of who I am and no one can change that. But when I do turn 18, what do I do? Do I just gather them both and say “Hey, I’m gay and if you truly love me you will accept me and be a part of my future or you won’t accept me and you won’t be a part of my life anymore.” Which seems like the best route, but you know, they are my parents and I would like them to be a part of my future but if they aren’t willing to accept me for who I am I guess I don’t have another choice? I’m lost, please help me out.

Probably those you care about already know you already know you are gay and support you. The others don't matter. I came out very slowly at age 35. I didn't tell anyone in my office but since I had a boyfriend everyone soon knew. No one asked me because they didn't want to embarass me. I got a promotion and moved to another town. Imy new position I just assumed everyone already knew, put up my boyfriend's picture, didn't use ambiguous pronouns, and brought my boyfriend to unit events. In my life only three people left me when the found out I was gay.

They are vary judge mental on relationships and my oldest cousin he’s gay and they have not spoken to him for at least one-two years what should I do cause I don’t want them to stop talking to me.

I go to a Christian school and live in a Christian town 😂 but I’ve come out to like 14 people, and my school only has like 90 students in middle and high school so there’s on class for each grade. ANYWAY that’s not the point, well I actually forgot the point, but I’m gonna post this comment anyway just cause I can. So to the people who read this I am sorry for wasting your time lmao 🤣 😂

Also, Gunner, your voice and your input isn't a "waste of time." Your thoughts and voice matter! Congrats on coming out! I hope it was a good experience!!!! :)
