The following Blu-rays have went out of print: Kraken release of Godzilla 1984 Sony's dual pack release of Godzilla vs King Ghidorah/Godzilla vs Mothra Sony's dual pack release of the Rebirth of Mothra films Now their used market prices are crazy expensive. There are rumors that Sony is letting go of their Godzilla licenses as they come up for renewal so that Criterion can release a Heisei/Millennium collection as recently Criterion has been spotted showing Godzilla 84 and Biollante showings with the "Janus Films" logo. Buy the rest of the dual packs for cheap while you still can!
The Sony Wonder Box Set was released in conjunction with the Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee video game on Nintendo Gamecube, and at the time im not sure which one came out first since the dvds have a trailer for the video game and the video game manual promotes the dvd box set. I still think the video game came out first but both were awesome to have as a 10 year old Godzilla fan!
Unfortunately I missed out on Melee as a kid but I played the hell out of save the earth back in the day. I’d love for a new fighting Godzilla game in spirit of those.
Dude, this video was incredible and helped me out so much! As a Godzilla fan for my whole life who just got into collecting, this video is the definitive video I’ll return to when seeking out these films. Also, what do you know about Godzilla: Minus One’s release?? Perhaps I’m not looking hard enough, but you’re probably familiar. Cheers!
Thank you for your kind words! As for Minus One, Japan has recently announced a physical media release (in May I believe) so we should expect some news about western releases soon hopefully!
You've got the wrong Destroy All Monsters Blu ray. You need the 2011 Tokyo Shock edition with commentary, image gallery and original trailers that were removed from your later release due to copyright issues.
Great collection of a Godzilla fan but the only one is never been release on DVD or Blu-ray and that is Godzilla 1985 that's the only Godzilla movie so hard to get
Thank you so much originally I was only going to get the blu rays but you inspire me to get also the dvds so thank you and this a great guide as someone who wants to own every version of Godzilla, I still don’t have every Godzilla movie so imma buy the cheapest one and the most expensive will see in the future
I definitely believe the DVD’s are worth holding on to for collectors. Its crazy to think that even amongst the VHS tapes there are different dubs and versions of the older films!
@@SamaLlamaStudios and that’s why you inspire me to also collect the dvds so far my best option is Amazon I’ll collect the ones I can there and then I’ll look in pawn shops and other stores and eBay but this vidoes are really great for collecters so thank you
@@CommanderM820 eBay was where I got a lot of my missing pieces. I always looked for movies sold in bulk to save money with multiple copies. Its what Im doing with the VHS tapes
@@SamaLlamaStudios yeah in the future I’ll use eBay is that I’m 17 and I doubt my mom will trust eBay so Amazon is my best option plus once I get lisence I’ll be able to drive around and search in stores for the movies
@samallamastudios --- Why didn't the Master Collection cover the entire Showa era movies? *Also, why not do the shorter list of Heisei era movies as Masters Collection editions?*
Several different factors, it was a combination of copyright, restorations from Toho, and the fact that those movies were directed by Ishiro Honda. As for Hesei, Sony owned most of those movies aside the first two so they did their own collections and releases
Just ordered my showa era collection and like you stated I don't like how the discs are packaged and would like to get the blu-ray cases you ordered. Where did you get them?
@SamaLlamaStudios ebay was the place to go! Found the same ones! Also the same seller makes some other cases for the heisei, millennium and reiwa era as well.
Not long after my birthday lol, Unfortunately the Steelbooks are still sold out, I’m holding hope I can get my hands on a copy, I was lucky enough to get one of New Empire (still haven’t even watched it lmao) before they disappeared.
@@GeorgeRenda Megalon Blu Ray is at 14:18. I included it at Showa DVDs for the reasons I specified within the video… As for King Kong escapes unfortunately no, but my priority is Godzilla over other Toho films. Still wouldn’t mind getting my hands on it at some point though.
Were the old commentaries from the Toho Master DVD box set ported over to the Criterion Blu-rays? From my quick search, it seems the Criterions don't have commentaries other than Kalat's for the original film. Is that right? Thanks.
@@jasonwhiton174 Hi, sorry for the late response but I wanted to check for sure. I popped several of the criterion discs in and sure enough the films do not have commentary tracks outside the 1954 original. So those tracks seem to be Toho Masters exclusive
Got them back way back in the day. They’re basically out of print now so your best bet is eBay or thrifting. They’re all dubbed with only a few having the Japanese available unfortunately. The blu rays are the only ones that have both options per film
Managed to snag a copy of The Toho Master Collection for 80 bucks (first version), however it did not come with the DVD slips, any good way of getting them?
Best bet for Getting the slips would be getting the films individually if they’re sold with it. Unfortunately a lot of people threw them out when they got their sets back in the day
Master collection I got back in the day, Ebay is the best shot for finding it. The blu ray is available from Criterion Collection and stores that sell Criterion products
@@SamaLlamaStudiosoh and I forgot to ask this maybe you can pin ur answer so anyone wondering but how does the dvd compare to the blue I know all the films are suggested to just go blue ray but I wanted ur take on it
@@LukyWogos Im considering making a video comparing the different releases with footage from them. Overall blu ray is optimal for quality but the DVDs still have merits as not all the blu rays include the Dubs (as I tried to point out in the video). As for the criterion collection, as far as I know, its not out of print, just sold out…I’ve seen it in Barnes and Noble quite a few times in person recently.
