Amazing video!! If you haven't read His Broken Body by Fr. Cleenewerck - it beautifully explains the early church ecclesiology like you mentioned. Blew my mind as a traditional Catholic... And now we attend the Orthodox church!

I just discovered your channel, and find your videos fascinating! I do have some questions: 1) In another video, you mentioned that people coming into the Orthodox church need to chose godparents. What do you do if you do not have any Orthodox family members or friends who could serve as godparents? Would your church pick godparents for you? 2) Why did you decide to become Eastern Orthodox instead of Eastern Catholic? 3) As you know, the Catholic church considers it a mortal sin to miss Sunday Mass without good reason. Under normal circumstances, an Eastern Orthodox liturgy would not fulfill the Sunday obligation. Were you ever worried about being in a state of mortal sin? If so, how did you get over that feeling? 4) What is your opinion on Western Rite Orthodoxy? I heard that it's pretty controversial, even among other Orthodox Christians.

Thanks for dropping by, and I hope you check out all the videos! 1.) In short, your priest will help you find some, but, also, you may find some mentors to help you along the way. 2.) The Eastern Catholics still acknowledge the pope as the supreme authority in the Church, and I do not. In addition, while Eastern Catholicism may SEEM a lot like orthodoxy, the fact is that it is a creature of papal fiat, governed by things like the Code of Canon Law for Eastern Churches rather than a continuation of the ancient Church. Finally, I would be separated from all the great modern Eastern Saints, like St. John of Kronstadt, St. Porphyrios of Kafsokalyvia, St. Nektarios of Pentapolis, etc. 3.) Absolutely. I felt that for the first few times I attended Divine Liturgy. I got over it the more convinced I became of the truth of the Orthodox Church. 4.) It is controversial, and I am not a huge fan of either the theory or the scholarship behind "Western Rite" Orthodoxy. And as a traditionalist, I find attending Western Rite liturgies painful, rather like meeting a doppelganger of a deceased loved one. In my opinion, the Eastern Orthodox liturgy is sufficiently universal that there is no need for a western liturgy at this time. If an entire Catholic diocese or the SSPX were to convert, maybe it would be a different story. However, I leave that judgment call to the bishops and priests in charge.

@@TheRomanOrthodox You're welcome, and thank you for your thoughtful and thorough responses here! I love the "doppelganger of a deceased love one" analogy!

The SSPX has supplied jurisdiction because of the disaster of Vatican II. According to Canon Law, "ordinaries and superiors are not to restrict jurisdiction. If the priest is suitable and the good of the faithful requires his services this jurisdiction cannot be refused to him." - in other words, there has to be a reason as to why someone should be restricted from jurisdiction if he meets all other criteria. The pope did not give any such reason, just tried to postpone the consecrations out of bad faith. Lefevbre tried multiple times to get papal approval but it was clear that the clergy didn't want to give him bishops because they hated the Latin Mass. The FSSP and the ICKSP signed off on the heretical documents of Vatican II in order to get the label "in communion", the SSPX did not. Then again, St. Athanasius was also labeled "not in communion" because he didn't support the Arian heresy. The SSPX does not exist outside the hierarchy just because they reject signing off on heresy. The goal of the SSPX is to bring Rome back (and wait until the Novus Ordo naturally dies out), it's not to start a new church or elect a new pope. And just because the Catholic Church has been let down by its leaders doesn't make the Orthodox Church right.

I am perfectly aware of the SSPX's argument for having bishops of nowhere, who are subject to a priest that was elected by other priests. The result, however, is just really fancy presbyterianism. Also, Athanasios was in communion at all times with some of the Church, and reconciled to his See before his death. I also do not see anywhere proof that, having been deprived of his see, he went around consecrating another hierarchy or making new priests.

This whole paragraph was an absurd thing to read and I pray you can one day step aside to see the cognitive dissonance. "The goal of the SSPX is to bring Rome back it's not to start a new church or elect a new pope." Bring Rome back? Crazy how 1,962 years Rome didn't need to be brought back, but now suddenly Catholic ecclesiology is such that the indefectible See must be preserved by a handful of excommunicated bishops. That's exactly what the Orthodox say they've been doing since 1054: "trying to bring Rome back, not start a new church." You're already Orthodox and you don't even see it. You've never needed Rome, it's magisterium, nor papal infallibility because the SSPX essentially hold Rome has defected, committed heresy, and needs to be resisted. Who needs papal infallibility nor the charism of indefectibility nor the four marks of the church when the whole structure can fail to preserve the faith so completely? The SSPX aren't even honest enough to deny Rome is Rome like the sedevacantists. You hold to the absurd notion of really believing true popes taught and continue to teach heresy and even a whole Ecumenical Council did so as well. Face it: you were never Catholic, you never held to Catholic ecclesiology. SSPX invented a new ecclesiology overnight based off of private interpretation. Don't get me started about the abuse of St. Athanasius that SSPX propaganda has fed you.

For most days, I use the prayer rule from the Antiochian Pocket Prayer Book (Little Red), but on Saturdays I switch to Daily Prayers for Orthodox Christians: The Synekdemos to pray for the departed.

@@monte9084 About a year is normal. The wait will be determined with your spiritual father, but our priest usually approves initiation between one and two years. Mine was a little under one year, but that was because I had done a lot of reading. Others took longer.

I would be interested in learning more about your experience in the Western Rite, and why you didn't join yourself to that expression of Orthodoxy.

Since you are making this video in English, you appear to be saying that Catholics in England should do a U-turn on the sainthood of Thomas Becket, John Fisher and Thomas More in order to join an “Orthodox” Church whose members cannot agree among themselves if said Becket, Fisher and More were validly baptised.

@@TheRomanOrthodox I would just say that in England the Orthodox Church is a Johnny-come-lately organisation. It appears to be one with some weird views.
