Finally got the cam put in! Here's what I got: www.briantooleyracing.com/ls1... Thanks for Watching! Some of the parts and equipment I use: www.amazon.com/shop/jamalsgarage
Wow Jamal you have done alot of work on your vette the cam change sounds great you've worked very hard to get the vette the way you want it I'm glad your still posting videos
Sounds great........im getting a 2003 Z06 silver with black interior this Fri....it has 80k miles...one owner....cant wait.....i have been told the 1st thing I need to do is get new valve springs....
Jamal your vette sounds like it's just purely pissed off with the world 😍😍. Sounds so good man congrats I can't wait to get headers and bullets on my z06 listening to this has made me want it even more.
Jamal the way the car drives at the moment do you think your clutch makes that much of a difference to drivability being it dual disc? How do you think this cam would hold up being in a daily driver?
The car would be a perfect daily with the cam. Has very good street manners. The clutch is a little bit harder to slip than the stock one but that really is my only complaint if you want to call it that
Awesome thanks Jamal for the reply I'll keep that in mind was thinking of doing my headers in spring next year but now thinking about getting the rst clutch to install along with it. How close was the slave cylinder to the pressure plate fingers any clearance issues as its twin disc?
Congrats Bro! I just bought a 2002 Z06 with only 40K. Thanks to you and your videos, I've already started the simple mods like you've done. It came with the Air Intake, Headers, mid-pipe, and exhaust. I'm gonna have to wait to do the cam. I'm loving this car! I really appreciate your videos. Thanks again!
Jamal, glad to see another video from you finally! Nice work on the Z, mine is still stock and I think I want to keep it that way, but I love seeing all the mods you do to yours.
Jamal, car looks and sounds great. If you want to get rid of drone, consider the Corsa Sport axle back. I have headers also, and under 2k rpm it's quiet. Comes alive when you step on it. I also broke a valve spring and dropped a valve back in 2012. Now I have an LS 376/480 crate motor (basically a cammed LS3 from GM Performance) in my 02 Z. I dyno'd 430 hp/418 tq at the wheels.
Congrats to the cam!:) looking forward to se it tuned !:) And soon I will try to lower my z06 like you did and show in a video, are you still running the car in that hight and did you make a line adjustment after you lowered it:) Also Thanks for the videos you make it inspired me to buy myself a z06!:) From Fredrik Sweden !:)
Hey Fredrik! Thanks for watching all the way from sweden! To answer your question, I haven'd touched the suspension since that video. I want to go lower but I want to change the wheels before I do
Dude welcome back!!! That baby sounds nice!! I have a 2004 vert with those billy boats. I think you gonna make me cam it now😂👌 btw the way can you tell me where you got the led headlights you have and did you put in the ones for the high beam yet and have thou had any problems with them at all? The led's I have make the lights act crazy have to put in high beam to make lights close down and high beam don't work properly also have to hold switch on for them to work in high beam. Thanks and welcome back!!!
Late comment but did you replace the lifters aswell? Or did you stick with the stock lifters with that cam kit? If you stayed stock how are they holding up? Because i bought a car with that same kit already installed but just kinda worried running with the stock lifters lol
So my car had previously broke a valve spring and destroyed the stock heads when I first bought it. When that had happened, I replaced the heads and at that time put LS7 lifters in it
J man waz happening so I got the stg 3 I did not know cus nobody says anything the c5 models have different torque converters have the one in that picture there lol stage 2 u can keep ur same torque converter but the guy doing my stage 3 btr I got the du springs like u suggested too btr also come to find out ima have to get the torque converter 25000 3000 stall so once stg 3 is in I don't blow the transmission something nobody mentions on RU-vid 2nd so the car doesn't stall everytime I hit a red light or worse on the freeway I'm lookin as I'm writing this not trynna go over the 300 range just find a torque converter stall 25000 to 3000 I'm lookin on ebay now if u know how to cop one for a a good price lmk
Hey bro, So unfortunately I don't have much experience with torque converters since my vette doesn't have one. I have heard good things about circle D converters but I think those might be a bit out of the price range you mentioned. You might check Summit Racing to see if they have anything?
I don't know much about that stuff I'm learning. I have a 98 C5. Auto trans, blackwing cai, and magnaflow performance exhaust ( no mufflers or resonators). Can I port the heads whenever or should I have other mods done first? I'm gonna equip LT headers soon with catless down pipes, and I want a good reliable and driveable cam. Is there anything I should consider before doing all of these to practically the stock ls1 or gears? Thanks!
@@614XJ Best mod for an auto man is a higher stall converter. If it's a daily driver go with a Yank 3200-3600 stall. That is the best performance mod you can make for an auto IMO. After that you can get regular bolt-ons like headers/exhaust/intake. This guy's Vette is a Z06 so it has LS6 heads, as opposed to your '98 Vette. If you have the funds, your best bet would be to call Texas Speed, they can get you a head and cam package to fit your needs/goals with the car. Texas Speeds most popular cam is there 224r or 228r cam. It's a great streetable cam that makes good power and after a tune there's no driveability issues. Just make sure you do it right and get the supporting mods like a better timing chain, oil pump, pushrods, etc.
Hey Jamal, You got me interested in getting a BTR stage 2 cam. I think a stage 3 might be a little too much for me, so I’m going with a stage 2. I have a question about it though. Have you notice any lose in highway MPG? Just wondering if there’s any sacrifice there or is there no change? I sort of like the fact that when I go on long highway drives, it gets pretty good gas mileage now. Thanks for your time and your videos. Keep them coming!
Your gas mileage should not change much with the cam as long as you get a decent tune. It might go down though because of how much more fun you'll be having ;)
Know its an older video. But if you still have the corvette, do oil and coolant temps stay the same on longer trips? And how is the clutch with the cam? Sorry to ask so many questions but I am 100% looking to buy a cammed c5 z06 for weekends and trips. Thanks
I have the same 02 blue z06 as you and I just broke a valve spring, I was thinking btr stage 3 maybe 4, or a tsp stage 3 low lift cam, any suggestions?what supporting mods did you get and what problems did you run into with the swap?
hey jamal, I kinda want to get the same set up. what is everything that i need besides the cam of course? Or what else did you change while you did the cam swap
Hey man sounds awesome! I am leaning towards the BTR stage 3 for my 03Z also... I know you havent tuned yet but overall are you happy with or have any regrets? Also, did you upgrade your timing chain or oil pump? Stock lifters? Congrats man
Although not necessary for Jamal because he has a Ls6 oil pump, any base model Vette if you're going to put a cam in...You'll want to get a better oil pump and timing chain IMO, just to do it right the first time.
@@JamalsGarage yeah i was thinking just a fun daily i was looking into some stage 2 cams instead of a 3 if i ended up with an auto cuz anything 3 and up will need a torque converter
Twin disk clutch was overkill bro, the C6 Clutch holds over 800hp easily and drives a lot smoother. And if you ever get the itch for more power check out A&A corvettes in Oxnard CA, they are the best at making insane but reliable power for these cars. I just had them build a supercharged LS3 416 stroker for my Vette, I'm now pushing 830hp at the wheels and I spent $19k (about $20k less than any other shop was going to charge me)
I personally wouldn't cam an automatic without a higher stall converter. You won't get the same performance out of the cam, not to mention even with a tune the car will want to push through the brakes a little.
