CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Mona Lisa (Marisa Tomei) brings up the little issue of marriage at the worst possible moment for Vinny (Joe Pesci).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
When sweet Northern college kid Bill (Ralph Macchio) and his buddy Stan (Mitchell Whitfield) are picked up and thrown into the slammer in a hick Southern town, at first it looks like no big deal. Then they are informed that they are accused of murder. Penniless and without a single friend in the area, Bill decides to call his goofy cousin Vinny (Joe Pesci), who has somehow recently become a lawyer. Full of family feeling and bravado, Vinny, who has never tried a criminal case in his short life as a lawyer, rides south to defend his trusting relative. He's an expert motormouth and street-level logician from the wilder reaches of metropolitan New York, complete with a thick accent and the attitude to go with it. Otherwise, he's much less well qualified than your average public defender. When he arrives on the scene with his equally brassy girlfriend Lisa (Marisa Tomei), Bill is fairly sure he's going to be sentenced to death. His buddy Stan is even less confident of his legal representative, if that's possible, and the first thing Vinny has to do is to regain the consent of his clients to represent them. The local judge doesn't seem any too sympathetic to Vinny's verbal shenanigans either, and even the most optimistic supporter of the boys would begin to have doubts at this point -- and Vinny's no exception. With the insistent moral encouragement of his girlfriend, Vinny somehow accomplishes the impossible and wins grudging (if very irritated) respect from all concerned, for once studying as if his life depended on it.

This is a kind and insightful take. At face value it looks as if all she cares about is getting married, but because of the way it’s prefaced, and how she looks at him, and just the mention of 10 years gone by-she respects his goals and wants to be with him, and knows he wants to be with her. The hidden message is “I would have married you with or without it, it’s just that our lives are passing us by”

Yeah, well Pesci wasn't a criminal in this movie, his character was one you wanted to root for, and his arguing skills were excellent, especially when he was able to convincingly bring a criminal case which started out making two innocent guys look guilty as hell, and turn things around to where he successfully convinced the court and this movie's viewers that there are many things in life and in the world which are not what they initially seem. It began to look very convincing that there was another part of the story, a party of two other guys who made it appear to onlookers that the events they saw were solely created by the first two guys. But Vinny not just convinced but simply really made it clear that his nephew and good friend were not the guys who robbed and killed the convenience store owner

@Teddy James But you bring up an interesting point, But if she was waiting to get married and make babies 'ten years ago' if the actresses' real age was the same as the character, she would have been 16 yrs old and engaged to Joe Pesci ;) hahahaha lol. Her character was supposed to be older and 'less hot', but they cast Marisa. Marisa apparently did amazing in the audition. Apparently so, since she was nominated and then won the Best Supporting actress oscar for this. But the character wasn't supposed to look like Marisa, but we all know Hollywood logic, cast someone younger and much HOTTER than the character to play them on the screen. ;)

That was one of the many Oscar worthy scenes from this classic movie. I've never seen a better male and female roles where two actors bounce off each other so naturally and compliment each other so well! They are a match made in cinematic heaven and I reckon Pesci deserved an Oscar nomination for that role!! One of my favorite movies of all time!! Marisa Tomei is 3 months younger than myself. She is the epitome of all of us "Italian Girls" from Brooklyn NY, in looks, voice, character and strength. I am Sicilian. It is almost drilled into us by our mothers and other females in the extended family to be strong...strong but knowing our place, and more indirectly than not being the emotional cheerleaders and supporters of our husbands. Yet I would give my ex-husband, may he rest in peace, such grief about animal hunting, to the point of making him stop the car on a drive upstate when I would see a poor dead deer on the roof of someone's car so I could tell them off !!!! ARRRGH!! TIcked me off when I would see that!!!! At any rate, this is how it was growing up into adulthood and this was and still is in many Italian-American families residing in Brooklyn, Queens, long Island, Staten Island, Jersey and stays with us when we leave. Innately we are very strong women. It is in our blood and not afraid to speak out against injustices we see, not hesitant to take someone into our hearts and homes who has been neglected/in need of the love of family. Another good example of Italian women and their warmth is Sophia Loren's character in Grumpier Old Men. Sharing the same birthday as her she was my first heroine and still is to this day. Well. I am babbling... :)

A severely under-utilized actress; much the same as Michelle Pfeiffer. If they had lived back in the 30's, they would've been making two or three movies per year. Like Jean Arthur or Claudette Colbert. Now look at Hollywood. They can't make decent movie to save their asses...

ok, Mr. Hollywood Producer check this out! We want to send the Karate Kid down south in a murder where his lawyer is a NEW YORKER with an attractive young girl friend. Lets make her a beauty shop CAR MECHANIC and we are going to try and get ( NOW GET THIS) Herman Munster to be the southern JUDGE and that guy from ANIMAL HOUSE that rode a motorcycle up the stairs will be the SHERIFF! HILARITY ENSUES!!! AND ...we have some LAW SCHOOLS willing to use actual film footage as teaching tools INTO THE NEXT MILLINIUM. and I SEE NO REASON WE CANT GET AN OSCAR FOR THE CUTE MECHANIC and an EASY 65 MILLION BUCKS...TRUST ME!!!

Vinny: What's the matter with you? Mona Lisa: I don't know... Vinny: You're actin' like you're nervous or something. Mona Lisa: Well, yeah, I am. Vinny: What are you nervous about? I'm the one under the gun here. Trial starts tomorrow. Mona Lisa: You wanna know what I'm nervous about? I'll tell you what I'm nervous about! I am in the dark here with all this legal crap. I have no idea what's going on! All I know is that you're screwing up and I can't help! Vinny: You left me that little camera, didn't you? Mona Lisa: Oh, Vinny! I'm watching you go down in flames, and you're bringing me with you and I can't do anything about it. Vinny: And? Mona Lisa: Well, I hate to bring it up, because I know you have enough pressure on you already. BUT, we agreed to get married as soon as you won your first case. Meanwhile, ten years later, my niece! The daughter of my sister is getting married! My biological clock is tickin' like this, and with the way this case is goin', I ain't never gettin' married! Vinny: Lisa, I don't need this. I swear to God I don't need this right now. Okay? I've got a judge that's just achin' to throw me in jail! An idiot who wants to fight me for $200! Slaughtered pigs! Giant loud whistles! I ain't slept in five days! I've got no money! A dress code problem! And a little murder case, which in the balance holds the lives of two innocent kids. Not to mention....YOUR biological clock! My career! Your life! Our marriage! And let's see...what else can we pile on? Is there any more shit we can pile on to the top of the outcome of this case?! IS IT POSSIBLE? Mona Lisa: Maybe it was a bad time to bring it up.
