Hello lovelies! Its another round of Messy To Minimal RE-DOs! Today we're tackling the spice cabinet, the garage again and taking a look at my updated closet!
Minimalism to our family means each item in our home (or vehicle) has a purpose and gets used regularly. It's less about the number of items and more about the function of each item and how it contributes to our home. Let me know if you enjoyed this video! I can't wait to take you through the rest of the house as declutter, re-organize and minimalize!

I think the key is... keep on going. As we modify & actually touch all our stuff, we learn sooooo much. Do I need it? Does it serve a purpose? Have I outgrown this? Does this make me happy? It's not over...till we're dead. Hahaha. Truth.

Maybe you should declutter your youtube/subscriptions. I did more recently as a monthly mini goal & made sure i had the bell on for the channels i excitedly watch every video of and unsubscribed to ones i dont watch weekly or cant even recognise the person.

I have a weird cupboard like yours. I'd put things in there, determined to remember what was there and a month later I wouldn't have a clue. So I actually typed up and printed out exactly what was in the secret spots. I stuck this on the inside of the cupboard door, and it's worked fantastically ever since.

I don’t think that once you declutter, you’re ever done. Being a minimalist means that you are always reorganizing and reevaluating your home and life. A helpful tip is to pick a spot to revisit each month. For example, an office, a playroom, closets... if you SCHEDULE the tasks into your life, you won’t ever feel overwhelmed after the initial declutter if that makes sense.
@NatalieBennett

I agree! I pick a spot or two every week!

It’s always a process. Minimalism isn’t a final destination. Your life and needs are always changing. I listen to The Minimalists and have played their month long minimalism game five times now. (Following their process you get rid of 496 items in a 31 day month) This last time I didn’t think I would manage it and was struggling after 100 items. At some point I got in the zone, looked at things differently and ended up getting rid of 927 items in July! 🐞
@somade1804
@somade1804 3 года назад
Didn’t count exactly how many items we did in whole of July, but decluttered all extra furniture and also the contents of the extra furniture. Sold several items in the secondhand market and finally bought some house plants with the money made from the sales. The first month in a very long time that we didn’t buy any clothing items☺️

Biiiggg recommendation for your spice cabinet: Buy a ton of spice bottles that you like, all the same size, working for your spice cabinet and can label. Maybe the even stackable bottles (they don’t have to be big). Andd maybe a lazy suzan or big basket at the back with extra/dubbles (or in your pantry). only pulling them out when refilling. I have this system in my kitchen and it works super nicely! It makes the space in my kitchen so much better visual! Sooo Worth the money spend on the spice bottles.
@Stevie37
@Stevie37 3 года назад
We got a spice organizer with pullout drawers and slots for bottles to lie down in. It came with a bunch of matching glass bottles and labels. Instead of putting the labels on the bottles themselves, I put them on the front lip of the shelf based on which slot that spice is kept in. I'm so glad we got it, I've been super happy with it.

🐞 I really love your re-declutter/revisiting type videos, because that’s where I always end up getting frustrated. I would declutter my closet (or my bed that sometimes doubles as a second closet 😳) and then two months later everything would be a mess again. For some reason it had never occurred to me to try a different way of organizing my stuff instead of just putting everything back into the same system that clearly wasn’t working for me 😂 😂.

*"Failure isnt fatal, Success isnt final, it is the courage to continue that counts."* 🐞🐞🐞 I dont think you can fail at decluttering. 💪💪💪 The more you try the better you get. & as long as you try you havent failed. 💖💖💖 Even if you temporarily put it on the backburner until youre better prepared as long as you continue to have that intention and desire youre golden. 😊😊😊 It should be a happy process you should feel good about improving yourself & life. 🕊🕊🕊

One of the things I'm proudest of in my life is my spice organization. I got some 2 & 4 oz plastic jars off Amazon (previous iteration used metal, but those kept rusting) and glued some magnets on the bottom, and stuck to the side of my fridge. But I've seen people put metal strips (knife strip style) on the side of cabinets, on walls, or really anywhere. I buy my spices in small units from a local spice shop, so this works well for me.

I agree with the Lazy Susan idea. I would add that a two tier lazy Susan is your best bet. Part of your frustration is that your shelves in your cabinet do not adjust. If you have a detail saw that allows you to cut the shelf out, that would allow you some flexibility when you go back and add holes for shelf brackets to put them where the shelf works best for you. Another idea is to group together the jars that are the same size, or find an organization system that have all the same container for each spice.

Ive messed up but look for othe options and solutions. I struggle mostly with the sentimental items. Natalie Bennett, I have kitchen cabinets shaped like that too. I took a rack like that black one you have on the shelf just above your spices, and slid one back in that corner (to the left on the spice shelf) for starters. After I did that, everything just kind of fell into place in a good way. I ended up with so much more functional space after simply doing that. Maybe you can end up fitting 2 small spice bins (stacked one above the other bc of wire tier/shelf) that can slide easily in and out... just a thought. I put one of those wire shelf inserts in about 6 different cupboards. Life has been so much better in my kitchen space since then.

I absolutely love your messy to minimal series! Thanks for keeping it real! I also enjoy your decorating videos and how you use what you already have to decorate your space. I like watching other channels for decor inspiration, but it’s usually them buying new stuff for every season, which then turns to more stuff/clutter! 😬 (and I don’t have unlimited storage space!)

I'm so glad! I love sharing the values I grew up with! So thankful for a mama who taught me to reduce reuse and recyle!

Great series! I appreciate that you keep it real-decluttering and organizing is a continual process. I feel your pain with the spice cabinet! :)

🐞 Love your videos. Lots of good info and you seem so at peace with everything. I heard a spice organization tip from another youtube channel. Catherine from Do it on a Dime suggested getting two metal round cake pans. Place marbles in one pan and sit the second pan on top of it, to create a lazy Susan. I keep A-M spices in one pan and N-Z in the other. Works great.

🐞 love these videos, we always need to re-do to make things work better or maybe try something that might just work better, it is always nice to try something new. Tip I put a post it note on the inside of the door, with all the extra stuff I have in the back where the stuff falls to... this way the stuff I use is upfront but I have a list of the stuff in the back corner. As I use it I cross it off an add on what I get. (Mine is ketchup, mayo, gravies, bbq sause, other sautés & soups for the winter cold season )

Many thanks for taking the time to make and share your videos; I appreciate the way the way you explain things as to why you are keeping things, for example, why you use the word 'fails' in your title. It makes sense and makes the viewing more relatable. Argh, I'm not explaining it very well, lol. I've just decluttered and decorated my bedroom, so much more calming and fresh, although it's taking time to responsibly dispose of the 'leftovers'.
