What a fucking boss. I just come back to listen, I never thought to be the hero. God damn I wish Justin was still here. They were pushing shit in a crazy direction and it had a ton to do with him.
18:29 - That song would’ve easily been better than any song on Dig Deep. Do you know why they didn’t use it? Do they plan to use it later you think? Song is fucking unreal and is one of the reasons I keep listening to this reel
Can't believe that he was gone only a month later. It's like this is the last thing he wanted us to hear before he went. Rest in peace Justin, mental health is no joke.
I’ll never forget him going out of his way to talk to a nerdy 17 year old in an Ibanez t shirt about guitars for so much longer than I would have ever expected. His mind may have been in pain but his heart was absolutely massive. I hope you’re up there feeling peace Juice.
This is so important for people to hear, he absolutely had a huge heart. And he loved music. I drove from Oklahoma to an ATB show in Kansas one time and I brought my custom guitar that I designed & wrapped in a silent hill theme with the slim hopes that maybe ATB would have enough time to autograph the guitar for me. I got lucky, it was a venue with a big parking lot, I saw a big RV right as I pulled up, and I either saw Justin or Trent, but I think it was Justin 1st, and showed him my guitar to see if he could get the band to autograph it for me. He goes in to wrangle up the band. And everyone of them came out to sign it, and take a picture with me holding the guitar they just signed. I felt so bad afterwards too because they was all extremely tired from the drive before, and was trying to get some rest before the show! Haha 😂. But everyone was a team player. Super cool dudes. I had played a show with them before in okc but they didn't remember me, but I totally understand that now as a touring musician. It's impossible to remember every face, but they was all super polite. They all barely got a wink of rest before the show, and came out with a brand new intro that would later become the Intro for My Frailty. This was during the rareform re-release days. It sounded so sick that night!
I still listen to this almost daily. If I am doing homework, playing games or just cleaning up the house. This demo reel means a lot to me and I am sorry that you are gone Justin. Thank you for everything that you did in your life.
10 years ago around this time of year, I picked up an Ibanez 8 string and it became my companion for the past ten years. Thank you Justin. I miss you dude.
It truly is amazing how we are all still being touched by his music. I’m not a religious person but I do believe that ones “spirit” does manifest itself in many ways. This is an extension of Justin, we are feeling it. I just wish he could see the amount of support and love he had from his fanbase and everyone. The amount of comments I’ve seen over the years on ATB videos of Justin is amazingly overwhelming. If only he knew.
i'm on that tip too. these guys got me through my darkest stages in my 20s.......i just wish justin could have found the strenght to defeat his!!!!!! they must have been some tough demons..
This was all a great listen. So many different ideas and styles. Justin was such a gifted musician. I listened to this until the very end. I noticed there were still about 3 more minutes left until the video was actually over, even though the picture that was showing through the majority of the video had disappeared. I waited and waited, and then 33:15 hit. I got chills instantly. It reminded me of ending credits music for an old video game. It made me think back to when I was a kid with no worry in the world. I've just got to wonder what state of mind Justin was in when he put this all together. The black screen with what sounds like ending credits music at the end of a video that's a summation of many ideas he had never released over the past 10+ years, it seems to me like this was all done very purposely. But, I don't know. None of us will never know his full story unfortunately. Either way, we all miss you very much, Justin. I really hope you're in a better place.
Very interesting man il always wonder about Justin, and this video.. it is pretty amazing.. maybe the happy sounding upbeat music after the blackout is to show that hes happier gone? il always be thinking about it :)
He’s in a better place for sure. No more uncertain, racing thoughts. The struggles were in front of us all. Money and fame isn’t everything, unfortunately... rip to an inspiration so much talent..
Definitely think it was intentional, I have dealt with mental struggles for many years, and around 3-4 years ago I tried to off myself, and a week before I compiled all my writings, and unfinished music to give to family and friends, at the time it just felt right to leave them with something, and things that were so personal. After a hospital and psych ward stay I eventually got into a better headspace and coincidentally discovered ATB a month later. It hurts my heart hearing the end of this demo reel, it's so weirdly chilling that after silence and blackness it plays those last 2 tracks, which sound so sad but optimistic at the same time. I hope Justin is doing better wherever he is now
The first song in this masterpiece hits me so hard every time. It's like you can feel where his mind was the day he left; climactic highs and roaring guitars, then stuttering riffs symbolizing the anguish to stay or to leave, followed by that sad piano piece almost like it's the aftermath of it all. Justin is forever a huge inspiration to us all and I can't thank him enough for his unique approach to music. R.I.P. :(
That earth-shattering part around 21:21 is probably my strongest hair-raising moment of all. Bring some of these unheard riffs to the next album PLEASE!
I write my own music. I thought I could make really good songs like Justin's just by writing a brutal riff and adding a melodic twist to it. But I tried it and I can't. There's so much more to it than just that and I can't even describe it. RIP Justin Lowe.

He put this out about 1 month before his passing. I feel like he knew then what was going to happen and wanted everyone to be able to have this to remember him by. Amazing work.
15:49 this groove is just so damn great ! Justin always had that feel for a groovy polyrhythm. Its hard to write a groovy one. but damn he had a knack for it.
Justin, I first wanna thank you for 'Rareform.' This album has been keeping me sane for the past year and I can't express my gratitude enough other than buying the album in appreciation of what you and After the Burial mean to me. This Demo Reel is proof of how insanely talented you were at what you do. It's so unfair to know you're not among us anymore. I'll always hold 'Rareform' in my heart and a guaranteed top 3 album I've heard in my lifetime. 'Rareform' is also what I'll remember you the most for. THANK YOU JL & ATB for changing my life for the better!

It's been a year since you have passed and it all still feels unreal as when I first heard. Your body may have died, but your music lives on and your name will be known for years to come; and in that sense, you are very much alive. Rest in polyrhythms, djent god.

For real! One of the things I love about ATB is that, until you've listened to something like that 100 times, it's utterly unpredictable, yet still a stable pattern. Plus with the kick following the guitar, it's ridiculously punchy!
Yea man, crazy how a simple one finger pattern combined with sick tone can make for a crushing experience, follow it up with that epic slide riff... just perfection really.
Man, there's alot of brilliant bits of music that this guy left behind. I'm kind of new to ATB, but after I learned of his death by reading the comments of Laurentian Ghosts, I couldn't help but feel really sad. I hope that 7:37 gets put into a song in the nearby future, that one in particular is very special to me.
I come here when I'm feeling my lowest in terms of inspiration and when i dont feel musical. Instantly i get pumped and feel the breath of life fill my lungs. I love you Justin 💘. Rip. I know many who've succumbed to mental illness, it wasn't your fault. I'll pray for your soul.
Its a damn shame sometimes. You just never know who itll be. Youd think that someone who was somewhat successful or doing what they loved, would be able to bypass or compartmentalize their issues. Every time I listen to ATB and think of Justin, I think of the movie A Beautiful Mind. A genius plagued by his own mind. I knew IMMEDIATELY when I heard Laurentian Ghosts that this was a Justin riff, even though I never watched this demo reel. RIP Justin, you're an inspiration to us all.
I'm not really a grass pop listener but I absolutely love after the burial, I'm finally listening to Justin's Demo. I'm a guitarist as well though I play better in classical music and I just bought an electric guitar recently to jam on. Though to hear this so far it hurts me knowing a great guitarist has passed, but to all of us he will never be forgotten. So much love and respect to Justin. 🙌🏽🎸🎼

In the statement Justin posted while in the depths of his illness it reads as a text book example of the most common symptoms at a severe level, at this point the mind is acting almost in an impulsive dream state, where you interact incoherently to a type of heightened survival instinct narrative in your own head. To the sufferer everything is out to get you, everything is connected, you are the only one that understands. This brings about delusions of grandeur and it's likely Justin believed he could fly in the events leading to the incident. It's a difficult illness to understand, it's a bit like being in a dream - when dreaming, you do unusual things that wouldn't make sense in reality but it all seems to make sense when you are actually in the dream, in this case it's a feeling of profound paranoia driving the delusions and a very real feeling of needing to overcome and futility that makes people take, often absolutist and symbolic actions.
***** There is no speculation about it, Justin Lowe was suffering a severe bout of paranoid schizophrenia. Psychosis is difficult to understand because by definition it is an abnormal state of mind. What definitely doesn't help is people like you who spread insensitive conspiracy and bullshit theories about hallucination. I urge you to at least read the basics of paranoid schizophrenia and try to understand how crassly validating the paranoia that plagued Justin in his final weeks is a total dick move.

24:21 dude Justin was the groove master ! Holy shit! Just listen to this! Man... i really miss him. Only met him a few times. The whole band is just great people. ATB is one of my all time favorite bands. ATB was a big influence on my writing. And Born of Osiris. Trying to crack the code of what makes a jumpy bouncey riff. What makes you get off your feet. And Justin just Had that gift for writing those riffs with the right polyrhythm to make you want to bounce.
