Today we take a look at my small Dendrobium Phalaenopsis collection, which has grown in a year from 1 to 6!

In Europe all the commercial hybrids can be identified here www.sa-nook.nl/... they have commercial names that can sometimes be similar to the registered name.
My collection is now formed by 6 cute orchids, all with ID's.

A little note: I was looking for plastic white pots, I know IKEA has tons of white ceramic ones, but the pot is already heavy and the ceramic pot would add too much weight.

MissOrchidGirl I think ikea is bringing these new pots in stores. I didn't see them before and they have them here now. m.ikea.com/ch/de/catalog/products/art/70338828/ they will probably be available in Cyprus soon too. Just have a look or maybe ask in the store.

Hornbach has some white plastic outer pots if thats what you are looking for, they also sell some they claim are specialized to orchids, they have some sort of built in humidity tray which prevents the water from touching the orchids. I find them pretty OK, a bit too tall for my liking, but nice. I liked your blue pots, simple yet pretty.

Ok, I feel horrible saying it but nej, I think those blue pots steal the show to the orchids. I'd definitely go for neutral colors (white, every shade of grey, beige, creamy colors...). These colors are called neutral because they match every other color and won't be the first thing you see when entering the greenhouse. BTW: why don't you write to some pot brand and ask them to be your supporters? Having a channel with so many subscribers you can definitely make a great deal...

Besides, remember the pots will sit on top of brown shelfs... I personally do not think pastel blue matches brown...

lol you'd be surprised how much companies are not interested :)) I wouldn't write to a company to sponsor me anyway it's a bit awkward, but I wrote to orchid shops, very popular ones, to offer vouchers for my viewers.. almost no interest at all :)) one who ignores me most is SVO, shame I really wanted to have some discounts from them for my USA viewers.. but yeah, guess they have enough customers :)))

I think the colors are beautiful. Especially the light greenish blue- it's my favorite color. And the colors are reminiscent of her old balcony for me which I always loved.

One of my favorite orchids are Dendrobium Phaleanopsis and I plan to buy plenty more in the future. I only have two at the moment and they're putting out new growths and plenty of roots. Thank you for the video Dani and the blue and aqua flower pots definitely brighten the room.

I recently started caring for orchids more seriously. Always had phals but didn't do anything apart from a bit of water. At my local grocery shop i purchased a dendrobium phal for 3 euro 50 thinking oh well i'll see how it does. now a fee weeks later i see a new cane growing. Thanks to this video i know it's a blue happiness. 2 weeks ago i was at the garden centre and ofcourse had a look at the orchids (duh haha). I saw a dendrobium phal and fell in love but said no to myself as i got enough. Still, 3 days later i couldn't stop thinking about it so i went back to buy it. It was a lot pricier (14.50) than my other dendrobium phal but just had to have it... it's the polar fire!!! I am so thrilled with these names hahaha

The den you received from your friend looks like a Thailand Black to me and judging by your photos. I have one and it's grown huge. I have 3 canes about 50-55cm tall! Wonderful when it's in bloom.

I personally don't like the multicolored pots, but as long as your orchids are healthy and you are happy. That's what really matters. Keep them videos coming Danny! I am learning so much from your mistakes. Makes me not make a few of my own. Lol

I like the colour white but I think just having white pots is restricting. I understand what you mean about the flowers being the main feature. But I actually liked your old balcony with the random pots. You never really knew what to expect or what was coming next. I'd also hate for you to see a plant pot with a beautiful design on it but pass it up because it wont fit in with all the other ones. It's totally up to you though as the main attraction of your channel is educational content

Hey Dani! I think that the colored pots are a better idea in my opinion. I like to have something other than green and white to look at when my orchids or not in bloom. You can also coordinate colors to make the flowers pop in color even more so than normal.

I like the aqua colored pots. Seems it's really a matter of opinion, though. I think for plants with colorful leaves, or plants that are in flower most of the time, like African violets, a neutral color is good. For plants that spend most of the time in just green leaves, colored pots add a pop of interest in my opinion. For the fertilizer, I think if it's warm enough for the plant to be actively growing with new leaves, roots, etc, the fertilizer will be activated. if not, the plant won't need it anyway.

I had a Den. Pink Party when I was younger, I think it was my first orchid. Very pretty, and bloomed very frequently for me. A pity "the room" killed it by sun frying it. Might get a new one one day.

It could be cool if all of your decorative pots would be in the same color family. Like all blue tones. Also, I think the fertilizer does release in cool temperature, just slower than in worm. And knowing what you have told about Catasetums (love em'), they like plentiful quantities of fertilizer.

I only had the velvet melody, and recently bought the Haleahi Blush from amazon due to me having amazing luck with my velvet melody. I was ALSO dying to get a splash dendrobium and finally ordered the pink splash off etsy, because I was infatuated with it ever since I saw it on the internet. Actually, the Velvet Melody was the only Dendrobium Phalaenopsis of its kind at the orchid shop I made the commute to, so I suppose they are more popular in the USA and midwest? Plant also loves the Den. mix on RepotMe.

I think it would be nice if you could have all your orchids in the same colored neutral pots that match when your orchids are in bloom and when they aren't in bloom you could have them in a pot the same or similar color as the flower would be when it blooms... not sure if this would be possible but thought it would look nice and your viewers would know what color to expect in your plants that didn't have a bloom on them. I also liked the idea of each 'kind' of Orchid having the same colored pots too.... 😊

I love Den Phals!! They seem to adapt better to semi hydro for me. I usually buy bargain corner plants that need immediate repots and so far I think I have only lost one....actually still have that one hoping for another keiki!

Great! I was able to ID my den phals on that site, thank you!!! I'm 99% sure I have the snow jade, blue happiness and pink party. I hate the term "den phal". There is a resemblance between the two but there are a lot of differences as well. I wish I'd given these orchids more attention sooner, they're great!

Danny have you looked for pots on ebay? The blues are so pretty, they remind me of the Caribbean sea. All your Den Phals are looking good, amazing actually considering what they've been thru with the move, or that the are rescues. 🌱

I been waiting for this videos! more for Den phals please 😜 About the pots. I think I would go with more neutral colors. Any pastel colors bring more attention. the ones I think will make the green foliage and any flowers stand more would be: white, creamy yellow, and grey

Mabye you could use the clay pots as the outer decorative pots? I like the blue/Aqua though. Especially with the white pebbles on top. However I think it would look better with white pots as you said. But also, as a previous commenter said, having coloured pots allows us to "know" your orchids. Eg Mabye you make a video about the Den in the blue pot in 2 months, we would recognize it from the pot. Idk, just some food for thought.

That blue is nice, but I think it would be to striking. Orchids and their flowers will not be in first plan. The clay pot setup looks pretty nice. I suggest you use plastic pots in clay color. It will make better contrast whit yours white walls .

I saved an old Dendrobium Phalaenopsis, but a new cane began growing on the top of an old cane, which means it's about 8 inches off the growing medium. It is healthy and strong, but looks strange and is not sustainable long-term. Should I just wait to see if it grows a spike/flowers and then cut it all off in this winter? I thought cutting old canes back was not good for the plant. Please help!

Hi there :) I was wondering, I recently purchased an unmarked, non blooming dendrobium that I believe is a dendrobium phalaenopsis because the leaves are not very flexible like you showed us in one of your videos about differentiating between phals and nobiles. I was told they only produce flower spikes from the tips of the newest canes however mine seems to be producing at least 4 to 5 nodes on opposite sides of the newest cane across from the leaves. This cane has also already had a flower spike cut from the top of the cane. so I was wondering if it's possible for a dendrobium phalaenopsis to rebloom from the sides of the cane or if these will more than likely be keikis. I really appreciate your help and I've watched almost all of your videos. you have one of the best blogs for orchids out there! thanks again! - Aj

Hi there Danny! Are dendrobium phals prone to crown rot if water is left in between the leaves as phalaenopsis are? The reason I ask is that I have to do a major clean as unfortunately, I just found scale on the two I bought a few weeks ago. If you have any advice for me, please let me know. Thank you so much.

I have one question: I have three phal's (one a mini) in spike and I can't wait for the flowers to die out, so I can start thinking about my repotting methodology in doing this; I think that clay medium might be the most appropriate.

Pot color relates to the color of the orchid. I prefer terra cotta, which is the blue jeans for all plants. Does anyone have a source for well made terra cotta pots for orchids? Can't get through to Wolffe. Any suggestions?

Hi dani, i have an dendrobium with no name it looks like purple happiness but i dont think it is. Small purple flower on a long cane and flower are on a long stem. my question is after flowers where do i cut? i cut the stem and left the long cane. is this right? im left with a long cane. will it flower from the cane again?

I have a question about Dendrobium Phalaenopsis orchids. Last year in winter I bought my first Den. Phal. This year it has grown a new cane that looks very well, as tall as the first one, almost as chubby, very small difference in size and I was expecting it to bloom now, in winter (I live in Romania) but it hasn't.... It seems happy, it has finished putting out leaves and in the middle it has a little bump that hasn't grown for weeks. It doesn't seem to want to get any "fatter". Also the old cane has 2 bumps on it but they don't seem to do anything for a month.... It's not the time for it to flower? Is the plant too young to flower? I have it near a south exposure window...

What is the orchid supplier you recommend? I purchased seramis from German Deli, but they are the tiny kind and although I mixed with leca I think there will not be much air circulation there. I ran out of leca so purchased some small pieces of lava rock which are advertised for A topper and quite expensive. I want to buy seramis but the bigger size and don't know where. I'm in the USA.

Your color pots are too bright. I think you should get a dull color so our eyes are focus can on the orchids. Your clay color pots where perfect color and I think white pot will be hard with your white walls for the camera.
