I haven't read the book, but I watched a video of someone comparing the show, movie and book. And apparently in the book Leo meets someone new in the end of the book. Which according to them made it feel like Emma was just a tool for Leos character development and to get him "ready" for a real relationship. So in that sense I'm kinda glad they didn't do that here.

The last scene on the stairs, when they showed all their (almost) kisses and then the final kiss in combination with the Vanbur song really had me in tears. I felt depressed for over a month because of this series🥲. But nevertheless I'm glad I watched it since it is a great show with wonderful actors. Maybe it is also interesting to react to The White Lotus. Not quite a happy romcom but definitely a great series and Leo Woodall (Dex) has an appearance in the second season.

I read that the series producers and writers considered an alternate ending but decided to be faithful to the book. The ending kiss was also how the book ended apparently.

I think we all knew what was coming when rain was forecast for the first time on St Swithin's day... accompanied by Sarah Cox's chirpy "It's gonna be rainy and horrible.." Horrible indeed - and true to the saying it was most likely - at least metaphorically - raining all summer on poor Dexter...

I’ve watched them promoting the series on RU-vid which helped, as they’re really good friends and have a laugh. The film wasn’t successful and this series followed the book more closely. I enjoyed watching your reactions. I thought you were going to crack but you held it together. The whole series was incredible.

Love, Rosie is this but less depressing. But yeah this has to be this way, since the lesson of the book is life is unpredictable, take advantage of opportunities, weather the storms, and don't be afraid to tell people how you feel about them. Because One Day it might be too late.

Yes because that was their life together and life doesn't always have an happy ending. The premise of death day was an exceptional story hook so without it its just a Hallmark generic story.

Enjoyed your reaction, yeah def watch the film and compare! As in the film Emma's death is more brutal when she gets knocked off her bike! I mean in TV show she had her headgear etc on and wasn't hit that hard so wondered why she died where the film version you could understand why she died from her injuries! And there are a few things they didn't do from the film/book that was in the TV show which annoyed me. Could you please review the new miniseries on ITVX- Red eye which is 6 episodes???? 🙏🏻

I haven't watched the new show (besides this) but one of my absolute favorite books and movies of all time. I remember the first time I read the book, feel your pain 💔 the book and og movie did the ending MUCH better. The emotion doesn't hit the way they do it here.

I would pay a lot for a bonus alternative ending. The movie is worth watching just for comparison's sake--it's like the series on fast-forward--not as good, but interesting to see. Thanks for sticking with it and liking it!
@Nikki-oe7gr

If you want an alternative ending, why would you say the movie is worth watching? I like Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess, but their talent can't save the horrible plot. The rule #1 in a romance is you do not kill either of the members of a couple in a romance. You can have struggles and angst in a romance, but a writer better give people either a happy ending or a 'happy for now' ending. Someone couldn't pay me to watch that again... hence why I didn't watch any of the show reactions previous to this. I guess the author thought he was being clever writing this 'didn't see it coming' twist, but as a romance writer myself, I must say, it's not clever, it's a betrayal of the readers/viewers who invested their time and emotion into a story, just to be told F---k off by the writer. It's not clever, it's cheap and cruel. Both my husband and I were in shocked that Netflix decided to make a TV series out of this awful story. More than a decade later, and we both still hate the movie with a passion.

Nope! One of the worst movies I've ever watched even though I like Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. My husband and I were all cozy snuggling watching what was promoted as a romance... not tragic romance, but romance, which rule #1 in a romance is you do not kill either of the members of a couple in a romance. You can have struggles and angst in a romance, but a writer better give people either a happy ending or a 'happy for now' ending. When the scene played, ,I was rubbing my husband's shoulder, and when she got hit, and I suddenly squeezed and almost dislocated his shoulder as we both screamed "NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!" at the screen. I was so distraught that I cried for two hours, and it completely ruined date-night. My husband and I were in disbelief that they'd actually kill her, and I waited to find out she survived, so we watched dumbstruck for the last 15 to 20 minutes of the movie with her being senselessly killed off. It took all my self control to keep from smashing the DVD. I guess the author thought he was being clever writing this 'didn't see it coming' twist, but as a romance writer myself, I must say, it's not clever, it's a betrayal of the readers/viewers who invested their time and emotion into a story, just to be told F---k off by the writer. ... and here it is. I didn't watch any of the previous reactions to this show because I didn't think I'd be able to keep this spoiler to myself. I have not and will not watch the show, because I watched the movie with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess in 2011 or 2012 with my husband. It's one of my most *hated* movies. It was a date-night movie to watch back when Netflix sent people DVDs. It took all my self control to keep from smashing the DVD. As you know, this is originally from a book, and I guess the author thought he was being clever writing this 'didn't see it coming' twist, but as a romance writer myself, I must say, it's not clever, it's a betrayal of the readers/viewers who invested their time and emotion into a story, just to be told F---k off by the writer. Life it’s not always love and happy, it can be cruel too and this is why this story so important because it’s realistic. You have a lot of cliche love movies to watch but this is for make us feel that time is valuable and that we must take advantage of the people we love most because we can lose them at any time.
@Nikki-oe7gr
@Nikki-oe7gr 2 месяца назад
@marianoaguilar6832 , There are plenty of things about this book/movie/show that are very unrealistic, so I don't buy that excuse. But it did make me "feel time is valuable" because I wasted 1 hour and 47 minutes, plus a couple of hours sobbing having a headache, raising my blood pressure, instead of spending an enjoyable rare date night with my husband after our daughter was in bed. I didn't need to be taught some lesson about the cruelty of life... I lived it with an abusive father, school bullies, multiple friends having died, and me having had multiple miscarriages, and our only child becoming severely disabled, and me having kidney disease years before that movie, was all I needed and then some to "feel time is valuable." You can mock all you want, degrading what you dismissed "love movies" and "cliche," but people look to romances for stress relief and hope. I know some people are into tragedy p0rn, and they can have it, but it better darn well be marketed as a tragedy, not deliberately luring readers and viewers who want no part in cheap sensationalism. By the way, one of the most cliche tropes is killing of a main character for shock value, just so the writer can pretend to be Shakespeare, because the writer is too lazy or untalented to write a compelling, complex, emotionally satisfying, nuanced ending.

Killing off a female love interest in order to give the male love interest character development and/or he learns life lessons is an extremely cliché and toxic trope.
