In this episode of building my dream shop, we start the install of the Standing Seam Metal Roof from ‪@MetalSalesMC‬. The product we are going to be using is Image II 26 Ga. Snap Loc Standing Seam. Installing a Standing Seam Metal Roof is by far the best option I could use on this project!

Being from Europe Im blown away at how much time and different components do you use. Sheeting, taping, vapor barrier taping, window taping, sheet metal cut in 10000 places so it would fit, trim details…like however good it looks it takes sooooo much time. An industriap workshop here in Europe, it would just be built with prefabricated steel frame and walls as well as roof would be done with PU foam filled sheet metal sandwiches and that is id, done. Same water protection, same heat efficiency, same or even better structural strength and probably maybe even cheaper.
@nils1953
@nils1953 5 месяцев назад
Doubt it on the price. Especially with how expensive steel has become. The steel frames we use here are as expensive as the entire building they are doing. Also, let's be honest here, there is nothing uglier than modern European houses/industrial places. His shop, has 6+ roof sections, that all make a difference with how it looks in the end. You'd have similar work if we actually tried to make things look decent for a change

The roof I'm doing right now has the same sort of layout for the panels. Using a mesh that's called meta matrix, thought it would be a pain to use but isn't that bad. First time using it too, but the cap details are a bit different from what I'm used to. It's a 4 sided rectangle roof too. For the capping we have to put the z bar down, then caulk the joints where the z bar ends between panels. Then we run a piece of butyl on the top side of the z bar, then I put on a "clip" which is basically just another cap piece that's a 1/2" shorter then the actual capping, basically the same way Z bar is but it's a continuous full piece and a second layer of cap pretty much, we then screw the clip/cap to the z bar so the z bar is about 2" back from the edge of the like starter cap. It makes putting the cap on go by so smoothly especially for being on hips.

You use an underlay under lead roofing too, saves any kind of adhesion, so the lead can move freely and not wrinkle and tear itself.

Try to find some 6 foot lanyard with breakaway stitch section, and a pelican hook. You then use that to connect to your YoYo. Much easier to use, so you are more likely to actually attach, it is also great to use on the scisor lift or man basket when you are leaning out beyond the OSHA reach line.

For some reason the ribs on most metal where I'm from are 7/8" high so I gotta go that or lower with the bends or else the gable trim sticks up funny. Also with ASC metal in the pacific northwest the panels aren't 16" they are like 16 and 1/10" so every 10 panels you gain an inch making layout more complicated.

I was glad to see you are wearing a safety harness while working on the roof…but then I wondered what would happen if you actually slipped off. How do you get down to the ground? Scratching my head to understand why you ripped a panel to have 2x 8" on either end, rather than just shift the whole roof over by 8" and then starting and ending on a full piece? Hi Kyle, great video series. I´m wondering why you don´t use a ventilation layer, between your roof sheeting and the metal roofing. I´m a carpenter tradesman in Germany, we more often then not use tiles on residential buildings, but there is a rerquirement for all roofing materials that they are ventilated on the underside by a continuous layer of 4cm roughly 1 and1/2 inches, from the gutter to the rigde. Especially on metal roofs that is important, since thesy get extremely hot in the summer, warming up the room below.
