No matter how miserable you are with anything related to drywall, you are really good at it, Steve! Don’t sell yourself short. The sanding is the worst part for me. What if you open the roll up door and back door to keep the dust to a minimum? Wouldn’t that help and prevent it from being sucked into the house? Depending on what Eleanor used to write on the door, a moist Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is the first thing to use. Second would be a little olive oil (especially if it’s permanent marker!).
STEVE, my Pap used to say, (when he stopped over to WATCH me finish the mudding), ..."just put Two coats in one Bucket" ! Sad to say, but it does take three coats, first coat -tape, second coat- fill then sand, third coat- Skim/feather then sand. Cause I wasn't a professional either!
Years ago my brother in law bought a house and the garage on one side was a tandem and other side regular size. It was drywalled but never finished. He taped it all, then mudded. Then decided to paint it, so borrowed my big sprayer that used a 5 gallon bucket. All fine and dandy but what he didn't do was clean it out. So after we had words i cleaned it out shooting the old paint across his yard, i wanted to do it on his corvette but my wife stopped me. Those sprayers aren't cheap. I never let him barrow anything ever.
Looking good sir 👌 I tried my hand at that drywall & mudding & tape but I had to call in professionals that were friends to help out because I had it looking like crap because the bedroom wasn't square in my old house 😂 thank God for friends!!
A couple of months ago I had to install a grab bar and adjustable shower head (to accommodate the disabled/elderly) and so I had to cut out some drywall in order to put some extra blocking in the wall where I could mount all that stuff. It has it's 2nd coat of mud on it now... and I just keep putting it off. I actively LOOK for something else to do. So... I'm right there with you. I even searched high and low to find the leftover paint from the last time I painted the bathroom. Looks like it's still in good shape and it will be enough to paint it.... when I'm done the mudding and sanding (OMG the sanding... 3 rooms away I'm collecting sheetrock dust... it just gets EVERYWHERE.). Thanks for reminding me just how much I still need to get this finished up and ... maybe it's not going to be so bad.
Don't know if this helps I haven't quite watched the video yet completely. I use green lid. I add a little water in it spin it up just to get the air out of it and to thin it a hair. I run my mud so it's very little sanding. Remember you're putting up four coats on there
@@GunpowderandFreedom I was told when I was learning to use Palmolive. As far as I am understanding you usually use dish soap because it runs through the equipment better like joint compound bazooka. It's a tool that you pump the mud into after you thin it out. It lays the tape and then you ratchet it like a shotgun pump and it cuts the tape at the end of the run. Some say putting Palmolive in it makes the dust drop a little more. I don't like breathing it in. Burns my lungs.
I know that by the time you read this you will be done already , but a large wet sponge will help smooth out the surface and make sanding easier and less dusty !
Sorry, I thought I was moving along pretty well considering I’m building it by myself, after working all day, after meetings, while trying to get everything planned for the start of our new house, raising two kids, and trying to be an attentive husband…. Sorry my pace is a little slow for you…
Looks good Steve…. I agree Drywall is not on my Top 500 things I like to do either but when I do do it, I always seem to do a really good job not trying to pat myself on the back…… I didn’t see you do it but just a tip don’t put mud from your trough back into the bucket as you can contaminate your good mud with little fragments from your drywall… also, when you are doing your last coat of mud, try to use topcoat should be in a bucket with a light blue lid it is creamier than what you have….. 🇺🇸👊🏼🔨🪚
