Pausing again at 11.45. I share your preference for Scotch and Irish whiskies, but I am being won over by some recent rye purchases. My son visited us last night and we had a whisky evening. Started off with an unopened bottle of Arran Port Cask finish (£47.00) - superb; moved on to Kilkerran 12-year old (also unopened) - a beautiful peaty bottling from the Springbank Distillery (I paid £43.65) and finally a mind-blowing rye: Catoctin Creek Madeira Cask 58%ABV at £80.00 a bottle. We were both impressed with that one. We were ready to open a bottle of Johnny Drum bourbon ... but never got round to it!

Sounds like a great night! I just reviewed the Arran port cask and found it equally as good. I’ve never had a wine finished rye but I can imagine it elevates it to a new level 🥃

Okay - I'm pausing this at the end of your review of your "Irish Collection". Can I recommend you try Knappogue Castle. I have several of your choices in my own collection, but Dingle Cask Strength, Waterford and Red Spot I would give an "honourable mention". I'll continue now from 7.30 onwards, but I must say "get well soon"! And PS: your subscribers numbers will grow exponentially in the months to come. Quality whiskies are becoming sought-after, and review channels are attracting more and more views.

Great recommendation, I had the knappogue castle sample pack a couple of years ago and I was very surprised because I was drawn towards the 12 year over the 14 and 16 because normally I do like my Irish whiskies sherried but it’s also hard to know the whisky too much with just 50ml but I will look at picking up a couple in the future for sure. I think the red spot is a little too pricey for me right now but Waterford are coming out with some interesting and varied releases. I’ve just written the dingle CS down, I’ve seen I think it’s called their 5 year? I know Dingle gets a lot of hype but I think I might sway towards the cask strength now if I get the opportunity to pick it up at a fair price. Hope you see some whiskies in the rest of the video that you haven’t seen also. Thanks for the watch and the nice comment

Really terrific whisky expressions! I love your knowledge and enthusiasm! These all look terrific! I have had some. I need to get more knowledgeable about Irish Whisky. Red Breast is a lively, delicious whisky and getting to taste some of the very aged expressions has been a treat. Exploring is fun and so interesting! It’s awesome that you had such a big boost in subscribers! Little by little you will grow and grow!! Fabulous! You deserve lots of viewers! You provide terrific quality! Cheers! Oh! Get well soon!

Thank you so much for the lovely comment Christine, I really appreciate it! ☺️ redbreast is currently my favourite Irish whiskey so you’ve started your journey off very well! If I remember correctly, you are a big ardbeg fan? If so, then perhaps a peated Irish whiskey could be one to look at in the future?

These are always fun to watch and see the similarities with your own collection. I bet it took you ages to set up and film :) Congratulations on getting your license! What is that English whisky, I've never seen it. Is it The English from Norfolk with a different packaging as they're the only ones I can think of releasing an age statement of 10 and more?

Oh for sure! Thanks, it’s actually a local distillery near me from Burnley. Burnt malt I think it’s called but I don’t believe they do whiskies, mainly gins etc but this was produced as a celebration. I think I may have said it’s a 10 year but what I meant to say was it’s celebrating 10 years

Thanks, I’ve actually picked up a lot of new ones this year so far so I might do a video at the start of every year to show how my collection has changed because it was quite fun to film. True, true. I will definitely make sure to pick up a bottle soon! And I’ll also be adding some more bourbons later on this year. Cheers 🥃

Thank you. This was really nice walk through of your collection. Some of those are definitely on my list. I'm home from my trip to Finland and I brought home some gems I've been wanting to try. Ok prices on those I got as well. Craigellachie 13, Benromach Smoky Quarter Cask, Woodford Reserve Distillers Select, Jack Daniels Bottled in Bond (older label) Sadly I'm also a bit under the weather, so my nose and palate aren't very good unfortunately. Hoping to be ok in a few days. I'm glad for you that your channel is growing. You totally deserve it 🤗

Thank you and I hope you had a great time in Finland! That’s so interesting. The first 2 are also on my list so I’d be very interested to hear your thoughts on those once you heal up. I’ve also been a little under the weather but I also couldn’t smell or taste for a week so it’s kind of killed any whisky tastings unfortunately. I hope in your case you still could smell and taste so you could treat yourself to a nice dram now that you are back! It sounds like you’ve bought some gems like you say and fingers crossed they live up to it

Sorry I didn’t remember you said that your nose and palate weren’t very good. When I click to reply on my phone it blocks 80% of the comment I’m replying to so I try my best to remember most of it 😅 it sounds like you was in a similar spot to me then this week so I feel for you there! Don’t do a me though and try one of your new whiskies, you’ll be disappointed due to your palate not being 100%

@@WhiskyWars That's ok 🤗 The pages hide some from me too, so I know how it is. You're absolutely right about not trying any new whiskys. That won't happen. I've heard positive reviews about the first two, so I'm stoked to try them out 😋 I will keep you up to date what I think about them.

@@WhiskyWars I'm finally feeling a bit better. The nose and palate aren't 100% resetteled from my illness, but fair enough, so I had to try JD Bonded and WR DS. Starting with WR. This is nice. Compared to the standard one, DS is more toffee and brown sugar forward. A bit sweeter with more oak influence. Same oak character as Double oaked, but less intense. It's not as complex as Double Oaked, but the tasting notes are a bit bolder than the standard. Thicker mouth feel than Standard. Also a slightly "darker" experience. I do like DO better today. JD Bonded. Wow, this is a completely diffrent animal. It's easy to find the similarities in the style to Old no.7. But having tasted the Bonded, I strongly question why the no.7 is produced in the first place, because it's extremely boring in comparison. The bonded is a lot more alive. Every knob from the no.7 is cranked up to 11. It's fresh, sweet, oily. The additional 10% ABV really does wonders. Some notes remind me about EW BiB, but lighter with less oak influence. Of corse they have diffrent house styles, but I can see JD Bonded as a worthy but less spicy alternative to WT 101. It also makes me glance to Makers Mark 101 for similarities. 😋 Hope you're feeling better my friend 🤗
@WhiskyWars
@WhiskyWars 8 месяцев назад
Well that’s really good news! Hopefully you fully heal up soon. You’ve surprised me with the JD and I’ll definitely pick that bottle up if I see it on offer. I’d be really interested in seeing the quality difference, there seems to be a couple of JDs that are getting positive reviews. Oh I filmed the Smokey monkey review btw so that should be getting uploaded on Monday I think I remember you saying that one interested you. I’ve got a few recorded this past week because I’m going back to Ireland for a few weeks today so I will be without my whisky and unable to record anything so I’m prepared this time. Hopefully two videos per week from now on

I actually love Bushmills 10, but that's mostly for nostalgia and personal reasons (probably the first single malt I got into and have great memories of it being my regular go to in a lovely bar with a good friend, and always have a few sealed bottles in my stash. Tried the stout cask Dundalgan about 2 years ago after working out it must be produced by West Cork (and having tried a couple of decent efforts from them). It was rubbish. Basically tasted like young, raw spirit.

Liked and subscribed. 👍🙂 Other than the RB CS, I’ve not really found an Irish whisky I’ve fallen in love with yet, but very early in my journey. Only just branching out from scotch in the last 12 months. Found a couple of bourbons I’ve really enjoyed though, (WT Rare Breed and JD Single Barrel, Barrel Strength). Also, from the World Whiskies, I took a punt in Joberg airport on a South African whiskey, (Bains Shiraz finish), based on the specs and was really impressed. Also really enjoyed “The English - Smokey” despite only coming in at 43% ABV.
@WhiskyWars
@WhiskyWars 4 месяца назад
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it! The RB CS is one of the best Irish whiskeys in my eyes so it’s quite hard to beat for the money but I also really enjoy the black barrel proof. It’s bottled at 50% not the 40 like the standard and it’s really nice but it was limited edition so maybe you can’t find it anymore for an acceptable price? The yellowspot is also a really nice one :) I know you’re just branching out into Irish but that’s the best time because everything is so new and interesting so I’d recommend just trying everything, peated included. I found the dark silkie or midnight silkie to be decent for the price but the teeling blackpitts is a nice lighter peated Irish, I recommend the single malt too but that’s unpeated and has 5 different cask finishes. The whistler the good the bad and the smoky may be interesting to you, lightly peated and quarter cask finish? Ultimately for me, I prefer my scotch peated and my Irish unpeated. Totally with you on your bourbons, love the rare breed and I’m thinking about picking up the JD single barrel when I can soon! The Eagle Rare is a 10 year old at £30, really like that one for the money Sorry if this was long, I just love talking whisky!
@supervillan326
@supervillan326 4 месяца назад
@@WhiskyWars Eagle Rare 10 was decent when tried it, but WT 101 was more interesting for me, despite the floral / perfumy finish which I’m still trying to reconcile with. I know the JD SBBS is understandably over your preferred spend limit, but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed as I suspect the only bourbon you’ll have had of similar quality, (given your spend limit), may be the WT Rare breed, but the flavour profile is very different, (RB being cherry and JD being baked banana). Sorry for the long response, (I love talking Whisky / Whiskey too)! 😀
@WhiskyWars
@WhiskyWars 4 месяца назад
I’ve been recommended that whiskey a few times actually so it must be a good one. Baked banana sounds incredible! Hopefully I can make that happen in the future because it does sound really good! Thanks for the recommendation

Just FYI: Kyasuku (like a lot of "Japanese" whisky) is NOT distilled in Japan (their laws let them get away with a lot!), just (part-)matured, blended and bottled there. At least they do say "World Whisky" on the label, but we'll probably never know how much came from Canada and how much from Scotland... Unfortunately, real Japanese whisky is usually even more exorbitantly priced these days. I see someone else pointed out that Lot 40 is Canadian, but I didn't notice anyone say that Old Pulteney is on the Scottish mainland (albeit the coast) NOT an island. I could get pedantic about some of your pronunciation, but I think I've already been cruel enough! I did enjoy this video and am subscribed, so I will keep watching.

@pierreluna1654 I think it’s good for that price, I think it’s bottled at 45% too so you get that extra ABV too. I personally wasn’t blown away by it but 45% for an Irish whisky at €22 I think that gets a thumbs up from me. I hope that helps
