as a german, i have to say that england have an immensely talented and deep squad, and i fully agree they should be considered at least co-favourites (alongside france) for the upcoming tournament. i'd probably even root for them to finally win something after we get eliminated, were it not for the extremely toxic english fanbase and their disgraceful behaviour hosting the 2020 tournament.

The issue I have with giving Bellingham the Ballon d’Or, is that after scoring 17 goals in all comps by December 17th, for whatever reason, be it tactical, fatigue, whatever, he only scored 6 goals the rest of the campaign (not including MW38). I’m just not sure that what he did is worthy of a Ballon d’Or, even if England win the Euros, I think Kane is much more likely to win it than Bellingham. If Vinicius balls out at the Copa America, I could definitely see him winning it, but the amount of goals Kane scored this year may be too alluring for the voters to ignore, if England and Brazil win their tournaments

I think this tournament will also be similar to the last few under Southgate.. Clear the grp stages comfortably, get lucky with a weaker team in the quarters and get eliminated in the semis vs a good team.. The problem is not the players, but Southgate.. he just can't tactically adapt to game situations.. so often we have seen us struggling against tough defences.. Southgate to England is what Solskjaer was to Man United.. a good man manager, who satisfies the bare minimum as a coach, has his favourites in his team who get picked regardless of form, and is tactically out of depth, relying on counter attacks and moments of individual brilliance..

I've read comments from guys from South America and realized how spoiled we are here in Europe. South America constantly has some of the best players in the world but they always leave for the Big Five (Europe). Here in Europe you either have a high likelihood of your players staying in your country, or if you from one of the smaller countries; I'm from Switzerland; you're kind of proud when your players makes it to the big leagues, and they're still kind of around, since all the big games are shown on TV somewhere, and the best get to play each other in the Champions League, UEFA Cup etc. It's the same with Basketball and Ice Hockey over here, the real good players all leave for the NBA and NHL. Switzerland always has to hope their best Ice Hockey players team's don't make it far in the NHL play-offs, so the players can join the National Team for the World Championship.

I don't understand people's obsession with 4-3-3. What's wrong with 3-4-2-1 which is imo the best formation for the current england team. Pickford in goal Back 3 of Walker, Stones and Maguire Attacking fullbacks: Chilwell and Trent, they're not known for defensive solidity but in attack they're brilliant. Midfield two of Rice and Bellingham (whose natural position is an 8) Front three of Kane, Foden and Palmer with the latter two being number 10s rather than wingers, these famctions will be placed on Chilwell and Trent. Why doesn't that sound more exciting than 4-3-3 that can't get the best oyt of the talent available?

Alfie Doughty at left back for me. His corners and free kicks, as well as his crosses, are excellent.

Eze should go ahead of Gordon because he covers more positions and I feel he has more elite level quality than a one-dimensional winger. Gordon poor performance against Brazil showed he isn’t ready. Eze has more quality and potential and that is why Man City and Arsenal want him.

I mostly agree with your XI, although I'm not sure about left back but then again there's no obvious solution. But I wouldn't play Gallagher in midfield, nor would I Mainoo or Wharton. I would put TAA without a doubt. He would create a great duo of midfielders with Rice, very complementary. I think he's the best solution. But the amount of great players England have at every position except center back, left back and goalkeeper is astonishing. I don't support England as I'm french, but I must say you guys have quite the squad, and I think you're the number 1 favourite ahead of Portugal and we are 3rd. It's a shame for Maddison and Sterling. They're fantastic players, but there's so much competition in advanced midfield and wingers, it's really difficult to choose. Palmer had a sensational season and was arguably among the top5 players in EPL this season, and yet he won't start. Though I wouldn't be shocked if he started instead of Saka, he's been better recently. But a manager has to keep stability.

If you told me in autumn that Maddison had a genuinely high chance at missing out on the Euros I would have laughed you out of the room. I also feel bad for Sancho and Rashford for missing out on the Euro provisionals despite being very entertaining and electric wingers. I blame United (as always)! Also for Palace to create many England contenders out of the Championship is iconic.

Speaking as a Scotland fan who has a lifetime watching England, you'll scrape through the group with 5 points and a +3 goal difference, win hilariously easy knockout games 5-0 and 2-1 (AET) lose to a France team putting on its worst performance in a generation 2-1 in the semis and then give Gareth a new 5 year contract because "He got us to another semifinal." Long may it continue.

Not starting Palmer in a single one of these set ups is honestly criminal. Not saying he should definitely be starting but to not even mention the possible and have likes of Rashford mentioned in starting line up is an absolute howler.

I would actually put Phil Foden up there with Jude Bellingham. They have both been phenomenal and i would argue that Foden has finished the season stronger. When you have the two most in form players in the world at your disposal, you have to get them both in somewhere.

Adam Wharton for Jordan Henderson is the best thing Southgate could do, the guys miles better than Mainoo and would fit that role next to Rice so so so well. The midfield would be world class. If Wharton had been playing PL football for more than half a season I think he would be nailed on.

Our best 11 for me: Pickford Walker Stones Dier Tripper Rice Bellingham Foden Palmer Grealish Kane Only problem with it is that there isn't a great deal of pace in there but I think both Palmer and Foden both need to be in there.

If Dunk gets picked ahead of Mark Guehi there is something seriously wrong.

Crazy how foden is probably the best player in the team and probably second choice in most forward positions this is why city win they have players that can play anywhere

Leif Davis has had a fantastic championship season and will surely get an England call up after playing in the premier league next season.

Just off his performances over the past 6 weeks, if I was Southgate, I think I'd risk it and take young Lewis Hall as cover at LB.

Why would Southgate move Foden to accommodate Bellingham and Saka? Foden should be the priority, he should play whenever he performs best and then fill the other positions. Foden is the best player of them all.

Maybe I’m just biased through watching Bellingham mostly at his time with Dortmund but I think is well rounded enough to play with rice in a double pivot and believe he would have played there for Madrid if they were not lacking a world class 9 this season

Swap Trippier for Chilwell and I think you're correct

Pickford - Walker, Stones, Gomez - TAA, Rice, Gallagher, Foden - Saka, Kane, Bellingham I'll admit, the system and tactics - everything surpassing the formation in importance - would have yad to be trained. It's too late now. I would have taken Grealish into the squad, simply because he plays naturally on the left and I despise Rashford's form and unwillingness to take responsibility in his club. Thus, Grealish could have freed up Foden for that F9/10 role partnering Kane. This team would work the right side of the field like Leverkusen does until there's a sudden opening for the left side.

This Jude PR is crazy, man stunk the pitch in 4 knockout appearances vs Bayern and City but is somehow the best number 10 🤣🤣🤣

For Most England's fame there's no need to place 2 DMF, only Rice should be good. Then Foden and Jude as AMF, you can then bring in another attack wing threat. Any of the wing backs can drop in mid to Assits Rice, also Jude can drop to play CMF sometimes, but keeping attacking threat on the bench for defensive balance should not be the team's mentality.

I’d be putting foden and Bellingham in midfield together. Foden’s industry in midfield has been increasing throughout the entire season and he’s even been defending as the midfielder next to Rodri in a 4-4-2 defensive shape. Bellingham has more of an engine than KDB at this point as well. I believe it can work, but obviously I heavily doubt Southgate would try it.

The English kept their League competitive, any tips from you guys? I liked Football much better in the 80's and 90's before the EU, when every team could only have two foreigners, the season would always be competitive and the National Champion would change every years. Since the EU the team with the most money just wins 10 years in a row. I'm from Switzerland, not the greatest Football Nation but still, our National League, the German Bundesliga and Serie A in Italy were so much more fun before.

I love the optimism, but France are so clearly the most elite squad it's almost insulting to suggest the English are comparable. No doubt this is the best English squad in a while but that doesn't mean they are close to the French.

I would put to you that Foden has had a better second half of the season than Bellingham in the 10 position. Bellingham started the season very very well but has tailed off rather in recent months. I also suspect Bellingham may be rather tired, Saka too, so i would bring Sancho as he can play anywhere along the front three (and he is very good and fresh as a daisy)

Since his return to BVB, Sancho SHOULD be above Grealish, Rashford and Gordon.

I'd hedge on saying England are going in with a genuine chance, rather than an outside chance.

I think Cowlill would be better than Branthwaite solely because he can also play LB. Also, I think Guehi has a solid chance to start ahead of Maguire. And last, I would def take sterling over Rashford, both had trash seasons but Sterling has a lot of experience in this type of tournaments and much like Henderson, I think he can be a valuable asset for the squad, maybe even drop Henderson for Wharton since sterling would be covering that "experienced" player role

I have thought for some years now...especially as a Spurs fan, that there are characteristic similarities between Southgate and Poch. Both have built sides with youth at its centre. I believe this is due to the fact that young players have little to no idea of these managers history AS managers. Young players will be aware that Southgate was an England Semi-Finalist....very impressive to young players....and Poch has built an excellent Tottenham team and managed PSG with all their status and stars. However, older players will have lived through times where Southgate was mediocre to ok for Middlesborough and aware that Poch, although being a vg player for Argentinna, he has never truly won anything of note. I like both as people and love what Poch did for Tottenham, but feel both rely on youth as it automatically gives them a respect that older, more cynical players aren't prepared to give. Pep could pick any player in the world, regardless of reputation (Such as the overrated Mbappi etc) and he commands respect for his unrivaled achievements.
