Now I am questioning my capabilities and the chance of getting hired at Google lol. Your portfolio and achievements make you a truly an asset to Google.
late reply but you really hoenstly don't. if you have easy, fluffy apps then yes add in the animations but if you work on intense apps (like i do) which include fraud, ML/AI, deep analytics - no, you don't have to have it be perfect lol
Yes always keep every sketch, mocks. Take photos and videos. I remember seeing a quote saying that 70% of promotion comes from you communicating and people understanding what you do, and only 10-20% comes from actual good work.
This makes me want to work at a startup. Seems to give you more access to influence the company's vision without the layers of management blocking you.
Very true indeed. Having worked at a 10-50 staff sized start up as a designer and a 2000+ staffed multi National, I can assert that my skills were 10Xd at the first one not the latter. The latter one has mainly taught me about how inefficient large orgs are and how most of the work is simply a side effect of the size… I.e. stakeholder management, justifying every idea before you’ve built it, everything being about how well you promote internally . Yuck !
Thanks so so much, Tony! After watching this video +10times, it fundamentally changed my presentation and story telling. You also helped me set the right rhythm to walk through 3 projects within 40mins. I Really appreciate your sharing!
This is fantastic. It's really the type of portfolio walkthrough that can get you any job as a designer. All parts are so closely connected and fully prepared. Thanks for sharing!
@TonyAube If Google wouldn't have hired you after going through this presentation, they'd have committed a crime! Thank you for sharing your presentation with us. It truly sets a bar very high but most importantly, it really teaches us how you focused on processes, decision making, clarity on your involvement and impact your decisions had on the outcome. 👏
I got in at a lv 4. Was told I should have been 5 or 6. Tried to understand why, never got an answer. Ultimately I got a better offer with a higher wage and more responsibilities elsewhere.
Tony, your ideas are so cool! Brilliant, creative and fruitfully positive for me as an adult. Thank you for sharing your experience here on RU-vid ! Good luck to you, Creative Man!
damn this was amazing man, literally your portfolio is insanely good. I mean im no product designer at all, dont even know where to start but this was amazing you came across with challenges and gave ideas and prototypes and other examples to find a solutions. really inspiring for someone even if Im not a ux/ui designer. amazing stuff, would love to hear about your story, just watched your video today
This is brilliant! I enjoy watching it so much. I even showed it to my mom. Thank you for sharing this!! I feel more confident preparing for interviews now :)
Brilliant concept and explanation - prototype mock-ups are a great way to save heading in the wrong direction with actual development. Congratulations on your career success.
Hey Tony can you make a video on how to do storytelling of portfolio . And how to do UX case study in our portfolio for fresher's. Your storytelling was just awesome in this video . You kept me hooked till the end and interested .
what if I didn't have the blessing to work on such awesome products?! You are smart, talented, and have a fantastic portfolio!! I think what helped you win is your talent, storytelling and interesting product!
The presentation was good and informative, I liked that you spoke freely and fluent and... yeah. Me giving feedback to every presentation in school. Always.
Very interesting presentation, thanks! One thing that stuck out for me though was the assumption that the solution must be to educate the kid to move the map. Maybe I am under-estimating the work involved, but my first thought was: redesign the lens attachment to extend the field of vision in the shape of the map. Then if necessary, warp the video back to rectangular again. For me, the need to educate is ideally a last resort. It’s great though that whatever the reason for starting to introduce the partner character, it got you there and it improved the product
Great storytelling! Motion design is something I’d been considering diving into lately as a ux designer. Mainly to create Lottie-type animations and custom assets for brand continuity in-app. It’s just very time-intensive. However this just convinced me of a super valuable reason to invest in it. Fantastic presentation! Thanks for sharing
I did! Also I did that presentation at Apple, then they made me do a 6 hours on site interview, another 4 hours the next day, and then didn’t hire me 😩
I loved the presentation! Really compelling and interesting. I also apply storytelling in my process because it also engage everyone in the process. I will take some ideas from you presentation to use in my next one. Great job!
Amazing explanation. Really helpful and inspiring for designers like me who are getting started. I hope you put more such content out, looking forward for it.
God. i literally have my portfolio review with Google next Wednesday and after watching this, I m questioning my portfolio deck. I think i gotta go make some changes.
This is beautiful work, and the product you worked on is SO cool. I imagine that was a huge plus. Thank you for sharing, I'm a researcher but this is still helpful :)
Amaaaazing! I love your attitude in proving that your idea would be more impactful than the one in development. Your examples are so DIY! I love after effects. Your video demos are so much stronger than the traditional written case study. And You made the rules of the game so intuitive. I'll never look at kids games the same again.
This is awesome ....BUT for people who have experience and real world projects with name brands. If you worked with disney and shipped a product, then it would be surprising if you didn't get invited to an interview with other big name companies and being in such physical proximity to their offices . It would have been more impressive , if you were a beginner with no experience and backing of a name brand project to get those opportunities. Unlike you, not many people have the option to travel to their preferred location for job searching. So, thanks for showing the presentation. Many people do need to overcome that fear of presenting but it's only half the battle. When someone has real noteworthy projects like yours , I'm sure plenty of people will have lots to say that are worth 💰💰💰💰 to faang companies leading to that coveted invite.
