I can hardly wait to see how you restore those quilts. I retired nearly 7 years ago. I had made or pieced together a couple of quilts before that but never got them quilted. I took up quilting when I retired and have finished 14 quilts and have about 6 pieced together but not quilted. I am working on 3 more quilts as I speak. I sew them on the sewing machine but when I put batting and backing on them I do the hand stitch. I have always loved to sew. I made my and my children clothes when they were growing up. These quilts you just showed are beautiful and being hand pieced together I know took a lot of time. Thank you so much for sharing these. I have my mother's and grandmother's quilts they made.
You have been blessed to have the ability to get those! They are all so beautiful! I will love to see you teaching us on old quilt repairs! ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉So happy for you!
i VERY MUCH enjoyed the quilt parade---thank you for that!!! i'm also VERY interested in watching as you repair and complete each quilt as i like learning the tricks of the trade as it were.......also, i want to learn about quilt labeling as i've never labeled a quilt.....must be something i'll need to remedy.....sew much to watch in your future videos......good thing i've taken to you sew well....
The thing that amazes me about those quilts is ,we have all our patterns and rulers and cutters and they didn't have all we do and still made those beautiful creation s!
What a wonderful treasure you found in these quilt tops. The great person who did this must have started stitching when they were five years old. Beautiful!
I was so thrilled with this video that I watched it two times in a row!! I am so excited for you to own these quilts and I am really looking forward to the upcoming videos of you finishing them. It always seems so unbelievable that a family member didn’t want to keep these. We can only hope that they kept many that were completely finished. Thanks for the advice about not keeping quilts in a cedar chest. I have three or four in mine so I will be removing them. Happy quilting…………….
I wanted to say thank you. I saw your video when you were showing how to bind a quilt. I am fairly new to the quilting world. Every time i had to do the binding, i would start to sweat. After your step by step video on binding; wow, i didn't sweat for the first time. You are a good teacher. Thank you.
Pretty quilt tops. I will have to send you pics of 2 quilts I have. One made for my great grandmother birthday and 1 my grandmother made. Still waiting for more on your basic series so I can get started. Thank you!
Sounds great! Please do! If you have any questions Facebook message us or text or call us at the shop. I’d hate for you to wait to get started. You’ll have fun when you do.
Boy oh boy! What a wonderful bunch of quilts you showed. It tugs at my heart strings: thinking of this wonderful woman cutting and stitching by hand, hour after hour. What a labour oof love she has left behind for you to find. My imagination is buzzing in my head wondering so many things like where did she get her fabric? Was it recycled clothing? Oh the mysteries of a quilter. I am happy someone who appreciates the time and work put into them has found them. Enjoy
Beautiful quilts. My Grandmother made quilts and used what ever she could get polyester was one of them. she was born in 1899. They used what they could.
Yes they did. If it had been made by a family member or friend I would have loved the polyester one more. I still like it I just like the others better! The feel of polyester is just not my favorite. But I love a good quilt!
I’m glad these cool quilts ended up in your hands. I just bought a furnished retirement home in Florida and it came with a few hand made quilts. I’m taking my time to try and figure out how to best remake them. They are in need but I want to be respectful. Thanks for the info and I look forward to more videos.!
What treasures! What unbelievable finds. So happy to see them in the hands of someone who will appreciate the love and time stitched into each masterpiece.
I have so many quilt tops my MIL pieced by hand. I may try to get them quilted. I need to send you pictures of the king size postage stamp quilt she made me. 100% hand stitched and quilted. It’s truly a family treasure. She made each grandchild one, too. Amazing work!
Ok…I subscribed based on your promise to take us along for the quilting. Can’t wait to see! My favorite was the one with the mint and yellow sashing, even though it wasn’t a complicated design.
My great aunt had one of those frames that hung from the ceiling. I use to sit for hours and watch her hand quilt. She made beautiful patterns. I was fortunate enough , she let me stitch a small portion. I really miss those days.
That is awesome! I’ve heard stories like that. My husband had a family member in his family that had a frame like that. I never got to see that. I wish I had.
The polyester one you need to use flannel for batting and anti pill for the backing. I have done this with the ones I have been able to find in ebay. This came be machine quilted and it will be the warmest blanket you will ever have machine quilt 6 inches apart. It will be a treasure for a long time and it will drape beautiful. The colors are from the 50s to the 70s. And I bet it was from a quilting gild. Nice old quilts. I have been lucky to get a box at a auction that no one noticed. I know just how you feel.
My goodness what lovely quilts, it's amazing that they were all made with no special rulers cutters etc. Just fabric scissors home made templates needle thread and lots of time. Glad you found them and will complete them to be used and loved. Will be interesting I received a hand pieced quilt that I will try to restore. Will anxiously be waiting to see how to do so. Thanks.❤
Wow! The tops are beautiful! I'm so glad they ended up with someone like you!! (I share your attitude. I always wonder where and who and what about my old treadles and vintage electric machines and quilts/tops) I'm thankful that your video popped up in my YT suggested videos. New subscriber. 😻
Amazing find! Reminds me of my Memaw, who hand-stitched hundreds of quilts. I have a couple of polyester quilts. They are tied (versus quilted) and have flannel backing. They are incredibly warm and launder so well. Enjoy!
WOW! Hi my name is Heather, I’m a small time quilter. I usually make a few quilts per year. I usually make quilt tops after Christmas and before springtime. Otherwise, I’m too busy. But, your quilt top finds are amazing. What I’d give to have found them. Each one takes a tremendous amount of work. I always wonder what the person piecing a quilt is thinking. Their problems, someone else’s problems, what they’re going to prepare for supper. That the kind of thoughts I have. Or if you’re making it for a certain person, how much you love them, and if they will cherish it. New viewer here, but I’m excited to see what you do to them. Oh and hello from Kentucky!
What an awesome find! I love old quilts also. Have some my grandmother made and my husband's aunt! Love and cherish them! So glad you are finishing them!!
Most enjoyable and quite amazing to me that whoever made these quilts was able to make so many different designs. What a talent that person possessed. I surely hope you are able to find out some more info on their background. Good luck and thanks so much for this wonderful parade of quilts!
What an AMAZING find and I’m so happy that you are the one to get all of those beautiful old quilt tops and restoring them. Your enthusiasm is contagious and I cannot wait to see the transformation of all of these beautiful old quilts.

Hello sew charming quilt shop great video today on displaying quilt top pieces. Many different designs and styles. I will enjoy watching the video later as you complete each quilt top. Looking forward to the next video. I like this
Maybe your favorite hand sewn one. I was lucky enough to get a quilt top made for my mom that her mother pieced in 1959. It had the family’s old clothes and feed sacks. I quilted it for her. Then I did one of my Aunt’s made by her mom. Then an old maid aunt gave me hers and one a lady in Kentucky made for her. The one from KY was hand sewn. So that was a treat for me to be given the tops and then the pleasure of quilting something my Grandma had pieced. Quilting is my passion. I have so much fabric. I’m crazy. But it brings me so much joy. But I don’t have to tell you. You have a shop full. And you know when a collection is sold out they don’t usually bring it back. So you buy it. Sorry I have gone on so long.
You’ve got some treasures! I’ve got one hand quilted one going but we have customer quilts to quilt so don’t get much time to hand stitch them anymore. Plus I love the machines. But yes they’d be pretty hand stitched too.
Such a great find. So glad those quilts will be finished and become what they were meant to be. I learned to finish quilts as a younger woman from an Aunt. Her frames were hanging from the ceiling. I always sewed in the corners. Hard work, but it made me love the beauty of all the hours of piecing together of the designs. Can’t wait to see the quilts.
What a treat it is to see these beautiful old quilts!! I’m so glad you were able to save them. People often don’t understand the love and work that went into to these treasures. This video wins the internet today!!
What a find! I have recently purchased two old quilt tops and am anxious to watch you as you restore the quilts you have. I know it will help me tremendously! I agree that the spiderweb quilt is amazing! I have not seen or heard of the spider web ruler.....Can you give me some info on that? Have you done a video to show how to use it??
What a beautiful treasure. I’m so happy you found them. I like to hear when old quilts are found by another quilter or collector to be treasured and given the recognition they deserve. I’m curious…what were they selling them for?
Wonderful find! I do a lot of quilts for donation. Those need to be finished. However, i have a pile of pieced tops going of the ones I like too much to give away. They probably wont get finished, because I cant stop my brain from wanting to do a new pattern! My kids are going to have to deal with a pile of unfinished quilts when I'm gone.
@@sewcharmingquiltshop What part of the country do you live in ?? I'm in Florida and never find a quilt top stash. I'm like you. I just like to enjoy the person's work. I love a good string quilt. I'm a scrappy fan but love anything star. I like that you are not overly concerned about everything being perfect. Thanks for all your tips. ✌🏻♥️
@@diannenaworensky6698 you sound just like me. I love scrappy and I love stars. I love old quilts. And no, I’m not overly worried about anything being perfect. If it’s close, I’m fine with it. It’s never going to be “perfect”. My motor is “done is better than perfect”. Also, we are in Clanton, Alabama. Center of the state
Thank you so much for sharing your estate finds. All of the quilts are so gorgeous. I am curious as to why the maker only made the tops and never had any quilted. I love the old scrap quilts and you really were blessed to get these treasures.
I just watched your wonderful video on the quilts.oh I am so ex cited about it. Please tell me you don't store your quilts in plastic long term. I am Retired from my tailoring shop of 37 years. I have repaired quilts . I also had a dry cleaning service. I had ladies bring good clothes in that they stored in plastic long term with what we called environmental stains and yellowing. Would not come out. I didn't make quilts I repaired and monogrammed names on them. I have made one t shirt quilt for a client. I have to say I am not a fan of polyester either. The one you have is so lovely. I like all the colors. The last quilt you have spiderweb oh my!! all the colors amazing When you show it again I would love more close up shots of it and whatever Time you have. Thank you for sharing your find. What a blessing Maybe you can find family of this lady that has some info and more quilts that they reviewed as gifts. Lynda
I believe we have figured out who made the quilts. Just verifying. Also, the plastic bags are for during the time they are waiting to be quilted. We’ve done that for years. They don’t stay in them long. 😁
Wow! Whoever made those quilt tops did so much lovely work. It makes me kind of sad that the original maker might remain anonymous. I really look forward to seeing how you finish them and I do hope you can find out more info about them to give credit to the maker. Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Enjoyed the quilt tour! Thank you forvrestoring the quilts and giving them more life. However, the background noise was alittle annoying. Sounded like you had the door open to the shop & traffic passing by in background during video.
Glad you enjoyed it. However, we are in Alabama so the door does not stay open (especially during the summer! 😂). That is the air conditioning unit working overtime. Without it we would not be able to video. 😓
Penny, Wow! Awesome find. Is it too nosey to ask how much you pd for these? I love vintage quilts, but I am always afraid people jack up the price. Great quilts. Thank you for sharing. 😊
They usually do which is why i don’t go look often. Went on the last day expecting them to be gone but got a great surprise. Last day they mark things down. Still more than I would normally pay but still worth it.
