I was keen to see this video as I was raised in Dogon country. However, I was disappointed that what started as an interview with a Hogon (there are many in Dogon country) very quickly became the poor exchange of information with two rather unqualified individuals. Both the Dogon translator and the Bambara translator were telling their own stories. Also the Mandinke origins is only part of the story, and language origins don't really support Mande origins though there certainly may have been influence. We know that the Dogon had a river crossing in their history of migration. And the Tellem lived in the area before them. Sadly this interview is not reliable as a piece of research, and poorly done. I felt awful for the Hogon whose name we never learn, whose knowledge and stories we never hear.

It's sad this essential element of Dogon culture will not survive. Many villages do not have a Hogon anymore. The last few years, Kuwaiti money is bribing for Islamization. I think you are doing a fantastic job! But you need to ask for precise answers from Africans. The Dogons are not the only people in West Africa who keep their traditional religion. I, myself work on West African cultures and customary law. Peoples of West African share the same beliefs, traditions and laws, be they Bambara, Wolof, Mandings, Ga, Adja,.., with some variations. What the Dogons are telling you are very symbolical and very deep as well. The "Nommos" are the "Vodus"

You did not get many thumbs up . The dogons have resisted Islam and Christianity for over 1000 years sadly over half the dogons have now been converted to them now but at least half are still resisting . Islam Judaism and Christianity are much younger cosmologies than the dogon

Ok a tribe of people called the Dogon who were able to map a star system with advanced math thousands of years ago is now living like primitive cavemen does not make any damn sense at all. I really like that you did this. But you know that Marcel Griaule spent 25 years to get the information we have from the elder Hogan Ogotemelli. While this is a great start, there is much more to be done, it requires some of us learning the language and spending time with the Dogon elders. Ogotemelli said he was revealing this knowledge because he felt it was not needed in the world. Soundbites is not how you get knowledge. I am really excited about what you have done, but I feel like it is just too superficial.
