I’m a new Dependency Case Manager and I just started getting caseloads in September.!It’s definitely overwhelming, I have 5 cases right now, but 19 kids total for all 5 cases. I feel like Daniel in the Lions Den right now. The training is nothing like when you get in the field, mentally I’m overwhelmed, but spiritually I refuse to allow this job to still my PEACE!!!!

I definitely understand. Keep trying to find things that help relieve the stress! Is your supervisor helpful?
@kimberlybell2450
@kimberlybell2450 Год назад
@@righteousroses That’s the problem, they don’t supervise. They’ll tell you what you need to do but never take the actual time to show you how to do it.
@righteousroses

@@kimberlybell2450 I had that problem too. I was hoping you would say that you’ve have a positive experience with your supervisor. Any questions that you may have, let me know.

I just accepted a position as a child welfare specialist and I start in a few weeks and I'm seriously nervous about the mental part of it. I'm worried about becoming overwhelmed and the potential burnout that a lot of people experience while working in this field.

Depending on your county, agency, supervisor, and team.. the stress may be manageable. You’ll be stressed but you’ll be on the move so much, some days it’s hard to tell you’re overwhelmed. Get the experience though. Once you work in child welfare.. I feel like you can work anywhere. Good luck!!

It is a very stressful position that at times feels like you can't win for losing. It has become tougher w the anti govt movement. Child welfare needs to continue to reform, grow, and used evidenced based safety practices that balances safety and family rights. It is a tight line. Not for the faint at heart .

Thank you for doing the job for four years. That is amazing and as someone who has worked in the public school system, I appreciate what you did for these kids.

Ram Dass had good things to say out of his experience, about avoiding burnout, and keeping heart for your sort of work.

Thank you, and al, the commenters here from the helping professions - for what you do, and the trauma you suffer, wading into human misery to help, and trying to make life better.

I've worked CPS and now work federal cases. I still have major anxiety, and i always wonder if my kids will be on the news one day and someone will blame me for "not catching it all."
@righteousroses

It’s very nerve racking. I’ve had a few people get investigated while working in dependency. 2 out of 3 kept their jobs. How is the federal position?

Completely empathize, did 13 years in Child Welfare, have since moved on.. but yeah, it was hard and at times trying to feel like superwoman and clone yourself to cover, and try to be supportive while struggling against the red tape of the government could be challenging as well.. I felt it prepared me very well for pretty much anything out there. By the end, I felt if I could survive that, I could survive most any workplace environment. I love my new career and am grateful for it.

how are there caseworkers who dont have a degree? there are a few people in my swk classes that say they’ve been caseworkers, some for years and they are just now getting degree? just curious. Do you have any tips on how to have a great interview for internship?
@righteousroses
@righteousroses Год назад
Is this for a Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree? People can work as case managers with a Bachelor’s. If they don’t have a degree at the Bachelor level then it’s possible they just have a title of case manager but their tasks aren’t the level of a case manager or the organization they work for allowed them to be a case manager due to working in the field for a long time. Concerning the internship- 1. Ask what your client contact will be and make sure you have a clear understanding of whether you are just shadowing or it will be direct. 2. The questions I have been asked were more so about my work experience, school schedule, and if I’m comfortable with the internship so don’t be too nervous. It shouldn’t be like a traditional job interview.

Would you suggest working for a private agency or the county?
@righteousroses
@righteousroses 5 месяцев назад
My experience was with a non-profit agency. In this county, the department of Children and Families outsources their case management to agencies. I think they just started posting positions through the state. What are some of the differences in your area?

It really depends on the agency that you work for and the program requirements of your school. You will need a flexible job that will allow you to make time for school. My old supervisor went to school while doing case management so it can be done.

How to say if you don't have any children then you shouldn't have become a caseworker reading books a training does that make you an expert on kids unless you have children of your own
@righteousroses

It’s understandable to want this requirement. My main focus in my career is being a dependable, caring person for children in foster care. Although I have never been in the system, I work very hard for the kids that I serve. I hope up can appreciate this response.

Why do you people as social workers have to lie? There is a family that is going to a situation that the lady inspecting the house is looking for any excuse to go around the family that is being closer to the child, she all ready lie in the first report and all she said ( I miss understand and that’s it) not even a sorry or anything else, there is people in the social work system that don’t have morals or feelings for people.
@righteousroses
@righteousroses Год назад
Are you asking for more understanding why there are times where there isn’t complete transparency from the department or are you speaking from a personal situation?
@k.kathleenswanson2089
@k.kathleenswanson2089 Год назад
Case managers that I know are ethical and do good things. Case managers have to ensure that the children are safe. If something occurs to the child case managers are liable. Maybe there are bad people in the field, but it has been my experience that case managers are passionate about the safety of the children. In reference to home studies case managers have to follow protocol.
@realidadesyamortambien8289
@realidadesyamortambien8289 Год назад
@@k.kathleenswanson2089 hi, I understand the the social workers need to follow a protocol but they need to change the chip in their heads that they have total control ( some of them NO all of them) I think that empathy for the family and the children’s well being should be a priority, unfortunately some of this workers act just like some police officers they feel that they can play with your time and life.
@realidadesyamortambien8289
@realidadesyamortambien8289 Год назад
@@righteousroses that’s exactly more transparency and more empathy for the family of the children.
@righteousroses
@righteousroses Год назад
@@realidadesyamortambien8289 I agree that there could be more empathy. It does have to be a balance though because people can push the boundaries. As far as the lack of transparency.. at least with removals, it can be for the safety of the child or after removal to prevent a dangerous situation.
