My Experience at CAMHS 

If you have a proper mental health disorder than CAMHS is no help they said it was just anxiety but it wasn't when I went to pat Frankish one of the top phycologists in the U.K. she got my diagnoses of dissociative identity disorder the second time I saw her she really is a help she's amazing

I think the worst thing I experienced with CAMHS was three months after being referred. I got a phone call from them and this woman kept talking to me about exam stress which I was confused about. She asked me hiw long I had felt that way and I said over a year. At the end of the call she asked so what do you wany help with and I said "the depression" she said that I did not have depression and I was just stressed out. I had to get rereferred and it took about 7 months to get diagnosed with social anxiety, generalised anxiety and depression. Adult mental health services however... oh boy...(btw I'm 17 if you were wondering)

CAMS did NOTHING. for me at all. This was made 4 years ago and they have not improved at all, it really messed me up :(

I went to CAMHS and I had a good and bad experience. The women that I talked to was really nice, however I was really nervous and she asked questions that I didn't know the answer to, which made me really uncomfortable. I was there for separation anxiety and low mood, however the appointment was steered on the anxiety side and had only like 10 minutes talking about my sad state. I felt like the women wasn't really listening to what I was saying, and if I said something deemed bad, like how I have had panic attacks and don't sleep well, she would ask my mum and disagree with me. This made me feel awful as I was already unsure about my feelings. I left the appointment with crappy advice on how I needed to meditate and get outside more. Like honestly, I'm depressed not just a moody teenager like she implied. Honestly, if I have to do that again I will actually cry.

Camhs in Ireland isn't great :/ they're going the best they can but we're really lacking the support & facilities over here:(

I didn’t have a great experience :( they contacted my school when I didn’t want them to and tried to get me tested for autism. I stopped going after a year

I had my first appointment on September 6th and my next one is on November 8th (even though They know about my suicidal thoughts etc) I'm really struggling right now but they said that's the closest appointment they could get

I currently go to CAMHS and the first time I went for therapy, I went there twice but then the therapy sessions just stopped for a year. We got compensation for this and I am now having therapy there with no problem. So I guess it was fine??? - Some random teen

I went to the dartford branch, and overall I have had a good experience, my doctor lady who prescribed the medicine wasn’t great, as she said stuff that my therapist didn’t agree with, and the fact she left soon before our final appointment but she couldn’t help that, so yeah I’d recommend it :)

I have an appointment for the 28th this month. I’m quite nervous I’m going there because I have recently lost quite a bit of weight and I’m at the point of ive been at school 9 times in the past month due to my emetophobia and I have tried many things to stop this but it hasn’t worked I’m at the point where I cant sleep later last year I got diagnosed with anxiety and have been to quite a few doctors appointments but what I’m really saying is thank you for sharing your experience.

Please can you make a video on your experience with a camhs psychiatrist and getting medication etc. I finally have an appointment with one next week, after having 3 initial assessments starting nearly a year ago 😫

I’ve been referred as a patient a few months ago they spoke to my mum over the phone not to me directly or over the phone but few weeks ago before Xmas I was referred as an urgent patient and got a letter today and both ways the waiting list wasn’t long at all

Ok, can somebody help me? I have a video call appointment on Monday (4 days) and I honestly don't know why. I've struggled with my mental health before (a few months ago) but I'm fine now, so why are they wasting resources on me if so many other people need it so badly? I'm on the waiting list for an Autism assessment if that could be why. Does anybody have an opinion on this because both me and my family can't figure it out.

I'm having a camhs meeting this Wednesday and I'm terrified. I feel like it won't help and I don't know how long I can deal with this anymore. I don't know if this will help and I'm petrified that it won't but I'm praying it will. I don't know if I can do this any longer.

Over here it’s called CAMHU (child adolescent mental health unit) it’s located in the thunder bay regional Health Sciences Centre

I went last week and I'm going back on Friday,the only bad this about it is that since I go with my mum, and one of my issues is worrying too much about her, the woman ends up talking about my mums life a lot, which is ok bc she needs it,but like it has worried me a bit but I think we are getting separate appointments soon

Camhs in uk is shit and doesn’t help I’ve been in the past and it was shit so I didn’t go again and I was made to go again recently. My school got me to go to camhs and I just hate camhs they don’t help at all they make it worse (that’s my opinion others might think differently)
