I appreciate this so much! I am currently in year 12 thinking about my future and the lack of patient aspect is making me re-evaluate this course, however the working conditions and hours are definitely more ideal compared to medicine as you discussed. :)
I would like to do lab work testing for cancers or diseases, but dont know where to start. Im waiting for a reply from the university near me so hopefully they can help guide me but this video has helped. Thank you ❤
Hello, is biomedical science a good degree for being a medical science researcher? Before i was thinking about medicine but i was put off because it was a lengthy course 😅 and also because of my grades (of course). I started wanting to become a science researcher and make vaccines, looking for cures for some diseases/illnesses etc. Would i have to do medicine to be a science researcher? Many thanks 🙂
Hello! Yes, biomedical science is a good base to be a medical science researcher. There are other life science degrees that can be useful too. Potentially, long term you might need to do follow up degree such as, an MSc or PhD.
You will likely need some graduate training to stand out for an academic career in a university doing research. However, to get into company producing and studying vaccines I am not convinced you need a PhD. If you do a biomed degree I would recommend obtaining a research placement between 2nd and 3rd year, you can modify the project with your supervisor when you complete the dissertation - this sets yourself up to produce some novel research and gives you an idea about the process of research. Of course find your own path, discuss your goals with supervisors. For me, the dissertation was a way to explore the epigenome and it has sent me onto a path of cancer therapeutics :)
Greetings Helena nice channel which i have come across, i am an High-School graduate taking CPD and CE in/on the Biology Field i actually enjoyed your video and i send waves of congratulation for your accomplishments.i am soon going for a degree in/on biology as well in order to join the US NAVY for Oceanographer and Forestry i am hoping to hear more from your biomedical journey life is important, i subscribed..
If i have biochemistry degree and diploma in clinical biochemistry that i think i have studied all modules that required but i haven't had placement year can i get ibms done? I am not from uk but i have 2 years experience in medical laboratory and i have done practical work in diplome in microbiology, biochemistry, physiology, hematology?
Before you apply, you can check on their website if you’re eligible for the international route. Here are the links: www.hcpc-uk.org/registration/getting-on-the-register/international-applications/eligibility/ www.hcpc-uk.org/globalassets/registration/application-forms/international-applications/international-applications-guidance---2022.pdf I hope this helps!
Please I want to ask I applied for MSc Biomedical Science infectious pathway, but now I want to add professional experience, I have started classes already, can I inform my school or it's late?
I guess it depends on the university if they have a deadline or a process to add professional experience. Maybe you should find out from your course leader/co-ordinator. I hope you're able too!
Can i do biomed foundation and transfer to pharmacy 1st year? My grades were t high enough for chemistry so I was offered biomed foundation which I accepted.
Hiya this was such an amazing video, I'm going into biomedical sciences, however I'm super unsure of where to go after doing my degree. From your video, there's a process to becoming a biomedical scientist. ive only applied for a 3 year degree, and I haven't applied for a placement year. Is there another way out of this? Thank you!!!
Hi! Thank you. Usually, the option will be to find a laboratory which holds current IBMS pre-registration training approval then you can complete your IBMS Registration Training Portfolio
Hello ...I was applying for medicine in UK but also applied for bsc in biomedical sciences in University of essex AND I GOT SELECTED FOR ESSEX ..so I just wanted to ask that ...after seeing your video ..I have a query that If I want to work straight after doing bsc then I won't find jobs? ....so I have to do masters as well? .....and if I get a job after BSC straight ...so what will be the pay ... please help me I am soo soo confused
Hi, To clarify, jobs are avaliable to be a Biomedical Scientist. But before you get the job you need to have your HCPC registration. If you check the IBMS website they have detail information about the criteria. Placement year is advised if you want to complete your portfolio or you can try to complete your portfolio after your degree with a laboratory who are open to help with your portfolio. MSc is optional. You'll still need HCPC registration regardless. I hope this clarifies everything :)
Thanks for this video. Pls I want to ask. I have a BSc in microbiology and I got admission in the UK to study Msc Biomedical science (clinical microbiology). After graduation, will I be able to get license to practice in the laboratory like a medical lab scientist? My target and career plan is towards laboratory work. Pls a response from you would help me a lot with what next to do. Thanks again
No worries! You'll be able to work as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA). However, to work as a Biomedical Scientist, you'll still need to complete your IBMS Certificate of Competence and HCPC registration
This is very subjective. Some people find certain modules in biomedical science easier or harder than others. It's a very detailed course with the amount of information you need to know. I had a part time job whilst studying (not many hours though - just one day a week). You have to make sure you are on track with studying if you would like to work alongside and be a full time student (my personal option).
does this means, anyone from biomed science degree, must start medicine school from zero, without any credit transfer? so its like 3 years plus 5 years?
@@adamschannel8685i suck at maths too, but got a great grade. Its only a few equations and I never used any of the complicated genetics ones despite doing genetics every year
Thank you for the video it was really helpful but i have a question after completing undergraduate in this what about the job opportunities, scope and salary ? Does it worth ?
@@LifeofHelena a lot of universities don't allow you to study pharmacy right from highschool in Canada you need prior university knowledge, that's why asked, in UK you can study it directly from high school???
@@joyannajones4392 i agree with Helena. I used to work with a Dermatologist. And the best course of study that she did was apply for medical school, then she said you have to apply for a dermatology specialization. Biomedical science for undergrad is not necessary. I already have a license and i want to do research so i want to study biomedical. I hoped that helped!
At the time, I thought it was another route to study medicine because I didn't get in when I first applied to medicine. I liked science too, so I thought I'd at least enjoy the course
Huge fan.. great video Can you give me your IG name I'm a Nigerian moving to the uk to study Biomedical science aswell I need to ask you some private questions pls♥️💯
