Sorry if this video somewhat lacks writing samples from this pen, the way that I filmed it wasn't the best and my hand blocked out most the drawing.

Many urban sketchers use these for drawing. They are great..very expressive lines..I have quite a few..

I actually do use these nibs for note taking. I like switching the angle to make important bits stand out in bold. Also, i find that reverse writing with them makes it to where my line is limited to fine, instead of going to triple broad, which makes me able to write pretty fast once again.

Bear in mind that ‘bent’ nibs are available in different nib tip widths, such as 0.6mm or 1.2mm. This will naturally have a very noticeable effect for the user and how he/she is applying ink to paper and for what purpose.

in all the reviews ive seen is that they use it upside down, to get a finer line, also they turn the pen angel at a greater degree then normal. I have 20 different pencils for sketching. only 4 wring pens.

I use them to cover larger areas with ink, as I draw with fountain pens......by the way, what are you doing in your grandma's room?.......sorry, I couldn't help it....., I'm working on it.

I have an addiction to copic markers and fountain pens RIP my wallet, but the drawings are worth it
@YoksnaParaDesign
@YoksnaParaDesign 5 лет назад
did the ink contaminate the copic markers? I've been wanting to use copic markers with fountain pen ink but wasn't sure about it...
@iftekhar.ahmad.abdul.qayoo2283
How does ink comes out so nicely with your pens?, Is it because of the ink or the pen?, If it is the ink then please guide me with ink?

Hey, I need some advice. I'd like to have a cheap chinese demonstrator pen and I'm torn between the Wing Sung 3008 and the Jinhao 992. Which one do you think is better or do you have any further recommendations? Piston fillers would be cool.
@jpl2475
@jpl2475 6 лет назад
I'd pick the 3008 in a heat beat. I have reviewed both, both are great pens and reliable (though the 3008 in my experience is more reliable) and the 3008 is a piston converter pen. The 992 is great, its just a little boring.

I've found some Bobby custom nibs on eBay in Jinhao 51a hooded-nib pens. These are sometimes called a "mini Fude"; the upturn is slight and subtle. I find these are actually quite nice to use, compared with a full-on Fude in another 51A that arrived yesterday and which performs similarly to your Baoer. Perhaps worth checking out these mini Fudes?

I tried the Duke 551 Confucius for my own drawing, even though it looked ridiculous, and immediately bought 2 more of it and a bunch of other brands’ versions of it. Look at the short Jesus Guerra Martin calligraphy sample here on RU-vid.

I wish I know any other single tool beyond italic, some freaky Sailors and fude nib on fountain pen, that offers this precision of line width control combined with comfort of proper ink capacity. Put a good fude or italic nib into a safety pen and you have a tool from dreams. If you're into drawing with ink, that is. If you don't have a good feel as to what line thickness a tool will give or you want to get something very particular, test it on a margin or on some other piece of paper. Normal practice with almost every kind of drawing or painting. I don't have an issue with control aspect here, but I have round (-ish) bend in my nib, that goes gradually starting from EF in reverse, which is what I want for regular writing, ending somewhere between 1 and 1.5mm when a pen is really close to the paper in normal orientation. If you have some cheap spare nibs of different designs (Parker 51 style, Lamy style, traditional etc.), I think it's a worthwhile project to actually try and bend one or two nibs before quitting entire subject based on a sample of one. If you have a need for a thicker line at all to start with. I have to agree though, a pen with a wide nib is not a good sketching tool - this is what pencils are good for, ink is for being deliberate with lines.

You could reverse write to get a very thin line.
@jpl2475
@jpl2475 6 лет назад
I do use reverse writing, it works but you still have to hold the pen at an odd angle

I've seen a fude nib demonstrated effectively in plein air sketches, but I will add that I don't know of anyone who uses a fude nib regularly.

You are absolutely right if I open that pen and saw that nib I'd either throw it out or pitch a fit and then I realized that that's the way it's supposed to be I've been looking up all the information I can get because I'm not that knowledgeable about the world of nibs going to buy this pen because it looks like it might be interesting and I like a broad nib and it's so hard to find them sometimes unless you're buying a very expensive pen which I am not so thank you very much for your review and now I'll buy just a PS you're so lucky to live in Australia I live in New York City it's a madhouse here right now really has nothing to do with the subject I just needed to vent take care

I have a feeling, but then I have not seen every single one of your videos since I just discovered you today, that you do not know about the MINI FUDE nibs. I have a few, and they are my favorite nibs to write with. Delike and Hongdian make some awesome mini fude pens. Another brand that makes some cool fude nibs is DUKE. The two Duke pens I have came with two nibs, a regular medium and a fude. Check them out on Amazon if you shop there. Very cheap.

JPL interesting nib i haven't tried one myself yet. Also you could try a zoom nib to see how it compares with the Fude nib. Thanks for another awesome video.

Hi JPL. Thanks for the video. You said you might try a Duke or a Hero pen with a fude nib. I have a Hero pen with a fude nib. Sadly, it's not very good. Perhaps the Duke will be better.

its not at the top of my list, but looking at the comments, I might pick up the duke or sailor pen.

FOA, these are not Fude nib, the term Fude nib, is of course Japanese, where their version of up turn nib used for writing Japanese and in particular Japanese quasi Brush style calligraphy, a cautious check would reveal that the geometry is quite different than the said nib used in the video which of course is Chinese and is termed just Calligraphy nib. Despite the close resemblance of both language ( especially Kenji in Japanese ) their calligraphy and particular how they write is quite different and this reflects in these nibs. The Chinese calligraphy nib was never mean to be used as depicted in the video .. that is they were not designed to write as nominal fountain pen fashion and was instead suppose to be used ( and write ) more like a brush as in traditional brush handling posture and technique. And thus one would find it very difficult if not impossible to control and effectively utilize the nib as such. This in lesser extend also applied to Like of Japanese Fude and Sailor NM nibs though they are more tolerant to posture and how they are being used typical fountain pen style. Not the Chinese Calligraphy nib.

Check out Paul Heaston's sketches on instagram. I would "guess" 80% of his amazing sketches are with a fude pen. They take more practice and patience to get the results one wants (for sketches) but well worth the work one puts into them.
