Mr Robert, I love your videos! I like yourself am a stand alone make it happen guy. I have gotten help working on my cars but that is not the norm. I’m not a patient man like you are though. Thank You for being a teacher and sharing your knowledge.
Outstanding job, Robert! Really appreciate your help! I’m very impressed with your patience, professionalism as well as your personable communication skills!
That's a job that I have coming in the near future. My '01 just gave me a sign when I turned the heat on the other day... The smell. This morning, I got the second sign... Interior window fog. Thankfully, I can take as much time as I need as I also have an '03 Crown Vic P-71 to drive while fixing the Mercury. Thanks for the video.
I have a '97 CV with 197K on it, I've been lucky, no problems other than the Blendor door breaking which is typical. I don't think any cars built after the 80s are really easy with this. Good video.
Thanks Robert. I watched your video, to see what is involved. I have a 2004 Marquis, and only notice one hose going into the fire wall. Not sure where they put the other hose at on the 04 Marquis. I will probably take the car to an AC place I know, who specializes in auto A/C, and let him do it. I smell something and assume it's radiator fluid burning. The radiator was more than a gallon low on fluid when I checked it today. I see no water on the floor or dripping anywhere . The floor is not wet. Since I'm losing water somewhere, and see steam or smoke coming from around the fan casing, I assume it may be a heater core, maybe a hole at the top somewhere ? Ford dealer doesn't carry the core any more, so they refused to work on the problem. I really have no other choice but to take it to an AC place. One tip on the Crown Vics and Marquis... if you ever have a situation where you've changed plugs and coils, and still have the engine light come back on, and notice the car seems to be misfiring, then find a Ford dealer who will reprogram the main computer. I tried 6 Ford Dealers in Miami, and finally found the seventh one I tried, who will reprogram the main computer. If I had found that dealer from the start, it would have saved me about 900 dollars in needless repairs and parts that other mechanics thought was the problem. Watch Black Conservative Patriot on youtube. Great news
@@johntaehunt968 Strong smell of coolant inside the car. And it was winter, so with the hot coolant leaking inside the car, the windows fogged up SO badly. And it was leaking down the passenger firewall. If you lifted up the rubber flooring, it was all coolant under there.
@@RobertDIY All went well except for me dripping one of the bolts under the defrost trim in the dash when putting it back together, and the hoses were being difficult and didn't want to come off the heater core. XD
It's a very sad commentary on Ford for making this so damned hard. They did a similar thing for the Taurus, but it sounds like this is even harder. Which is ridiculous as heater cores are an "eventual fail" item. They build them just well enough to get them through the new car warranty... After that, Ford doesn't care.
@@thelostsoul5531 The Taurus is a giant pain in the ass, but it's only 6 bolts. Two in each door jamb and two under the dash to lower the steering column. Then the ENTIRE dash can be pulled away (about 10 inches) from the windshield to access everything. I did one a few years ago that only took me about 30 minutes. But, still, a giant pain in the ass. Who wants to remove the entire dash just for a heater core.
Thanks for the video, I found it useful when doing an air box repair on my G.M. I found it useful to thread a small spring onto the airbox screws then stretch the non threaded part of the spring into a long wire then run the wire through the holes in the airbox where the screws need to go. This way they kind of self guide and make it way easier for 1 person.
yo get the top bolt out of the firewall, put the nut on the end of the bolt under the hood. use a socket and an extension and, hit it with a hammer. it is held in place between the housing and the firewall with a thin metal retainer.
Great video, Lots of help before I start the same project on my town car, If I have your patience I will be successful, If not I will call the junkyard to take her away.
ive done these on cars from the 2008 all the way back to ones from when the panther cars first came out. its pretty much the same procedure as far as what to remove, bolt location , dropping the column. the only difference is cars in the early 90s had airbags and a small bit more wiring.
I had problems with my steering column cause no one told me not to pull back on it I did cause I too was doing it myself, I totally messed up my steering now I know how to pull an replace steering column. Do not pull on steering wheel at all just drop it an an put back or you find trouble
I had a 1994 crown Victoria a few years ago. best car I ever had I must add I live in Minnesota I took it into north Dakota once to race it I don't want to repeat it I came close of wrecking it down by the north and south Dakota boarder I wouldn't have survived the needle showed I was doing close to 120 mph. that was my last race I do want another
I'm going to guess it would need a battery and if a guy put one into it would you think it would fire up? I may be in the market for a second vehicle and love the crown Victoria's do you have any interest in selling yours?
It needs a battery and at least a fuel pump, things in rough shape but I have full intentions of putting it back on the road again some day. It's the first car I ever bought so it's very sentimental to me. If I ever won the powerball, I'm contacting Ford about restoring the mechanicals of it and leaving the body the mess that it is.
Hopefully Lonnie (or someone that knows) sees this after all these years.. The nut you removed in the engine bay to the right of the heater hoses, I am having the same issue, my box won't come out after removing it. I know you mentioned in the vid that removing the nut from the inside let the heater box "fall right out", did you mean that literally? My question is, why did you have to remove the stud from the firewall then put it back in the box? Did you have to tap it through with a hammer and re-install it into the hole in the box, or could you have let it in place (in the firewall). If you took the nut off in the engine bay, then realized it didn't free the box from the firewall, why didn't you put the nut back on on the engine bay side and leave it as-is, then remove the nut from inside the car to release the box so the stud stayed in place? Today I had my dash removed and pulled back exposing everything in less than a half hour, then couldn't free the damn box from the firewall. I spent four hours looking at it any prying from different angles with no success before I ran out of daylight, all because I didn't realize there was a fourth nut on the inside of the car holding the box in until I saw your video. Every other video I saw said there are just three. Tomorrow is another day, and I will not let this job defeat me. Thanks in advance.
Yes. You have a lot going on in this post. Things usually work better if you write one question per post or just pick up the phone and call me. I announced my name in the beginning of the video. 🤷🏾♂️
@@RobertDIY I went back at it with 'fresh' eyes and everything went smooth as silk. Guess I just needed a break. The car is back together, and the heat will absolutely melt your face off. :)
Hi Robert thanks so much. I have a question I hope you can answer. My Grand Marquis only blows hot air. A/C system works fine and the heater core doesnt leak. It looks like a door or something is stuck, since it doesnt respond to lowering the temperature. You would assume the actuator is the problem, but I dont hear the clicking sound it makes when it is broke. So my question is: how many doors does the actuator actually move?? is there only ONE door? or more
with so many heater core brands out there.. which one after all this nightmarish work should I buy? I can't afford a factory expensive one but on Rock Auto they are anywhere between $20 and $80!! is aluminum good?
My 92 crown Victoria...know how i changed leaky heater core...i didn't....two cans black pepper....one coarse....followed next day with one fine...not the best solution...but on my 140k beater...why spend time and money you don't have to...
Is a 2001 f150 heater core the same as a 2006 Crown vic heater core? They look the same 2 me I have a 2001 f150 parts truck in the back of my house and I have a 2006 Crown vic with a bad heater core and I don't have the money 2 buy a new one right now. Thank you in advance.
Hello, how are you I want to replace a heater core for my Grand Marquis. Do you recommend any specific high quality heater core? And what is the name of the company
Hey Robert hope you are doing well. I did the job on a Grand Marquis. The problem now is that I don’t have heat nor do I have any control of where the air comes out of. It only comes out of the vents now. Any ideas? Did I do something wrong doing the job? Most of the vents work but the one for control to switch off of vents does not.
What if you have a leak on driver side I have a 03 grand marquis and my driver floorboard is wet but it doesn’t smell like coolant in fact it doesn’t have a Oder so would I still replace heater core?
Is this the same process for the evaporator core? i have a 2011 Lincoln town car. The only videos i was able to find is hack jobs. where they cut the metal under the hood and bend it back
I found after doing this job that my blend door actuator was bad so it is a good idea to replace it while you have it apart. Also, my vent door is stuck so I only get air out of the vents. I checked it out and the door is stuck open and the components and vacuum are good. Does anyone have any ideas on how to free the door????
Hey sir I have a question I hope you can respond and try to help me, I'm going to try to back flush my 2001 grand Marquis heater core, I've had it bypassed for about 5 years now so I haven't had heat, but now I want to try to fix it but before I bypassed it when I would turn my heat on my my entire front windshield would fog up, so with that said do you think my core was clogged or would it have been a leak? So with a leak I know the flush won't help, but give me your thoughts please, also last I want to ask I've started to notice recently that whenever it rains alot and my car sits, the entire back seat floor boards will become entire soaked with puddles of water, the doors aren't leaking water so I have no idea where the water is coming from, any info will really help, have a goodnight, thank you
I have no idea. Try it and let us know. You can also wiki the model of the car and see if the year model matches this year model as far as the built style of the vehicle.
I know it’s a late reply but. No need to buy a hose. My car blew a heater core on a road trip. Leaked coolant all over my front passenger floor. You can just disconnect both hoses from the heater core. And take out the return hose all together then bend the inlet hose to the heater core in such a way to where it connects to the intake manifold connection. That the other hose went into. It’s on the back of the intake. Then use the clamp they had on the hose you removed all together to connect the inlet hose. I had to disconnect the 2 nuts from that piece that’s connected to the module directly above where the hoses should go into the heater core. Move the module out the way for my to fish the line to the connection on the intake. Hope that makes sense

Wow! 😳 So it is somehow our/my fault that the car is not running after YOU possibly did something wrong? It's really simple... Tow It! That's right, another option is to junk it. That's what we do when we FAIL to fix a car. Tow it to someone who can fix it or junk it and replace it. 🤷🏾♂️
Dan. Its all your fault. You know your not the brightest crayon in the box. Why did you attempt to do a job like this when changing oil is hard for you? It's your fault your silly, deft, etc. You messed up the car. Not a video. You. Only you. Your to blame. Now take dash back out and plug everything in and start car. Silly old guy.
