The reader gives Spiros a Scottish accent, for unknown reasons.Nevertheless, it's fun to discover this, having fallen in love with The Durrells in Corfu when it came on television a few years ago. I was crushed when it ended, not the least because I was in love with the actor who played Spiros. I so loved the series that for a time I was convinced I should move to Corfu. I am surprised to find that the animal-loving Gerry was such a gifted writer. Delightful.
So glad I came across this book. I loved it when I read it in my teens. I loved all of Gerald Durrells books. I never read any of his brothers writings. I was and still am animal crazy. I went to his zoo in Jersey, in 1971, and was very impressed.
I just finished reading 'Bitter Lemons of Cyprus' by Lawrence (Larry in this book) Durrell. The only one of his books I've read, but very interesting and with a similar humour and writing style.
