I was a complete ebike novice last year; all I knew was a bit of soldering and basic mountain bike maintenance. Bought ebike parts from Andy's shop to build a version of the bike in this video, learned a hell of a lot watching his channel (and others) and had an awesome summer getting back into riding my local roads, some of which I had never explored before. I will be forever grateful to Andy for opening my eyes to the possibilities of building something so amazing. If you're watching this wondering if you should... do some research, find out what you'll need to learn about and just do it! Trust me.
Glad things worked out for you, did you have to do a lot of soldering and make circuits or is it pretty much plug and play? Also, may I ask how much you paid all-in? Thx
Manuel Auer I made a battery pack from 4 power tool batteries (see some of Andy’s other vids), which took a small amount of soldering to make a harness with 8 AWG wire. There was no other soldering required, all plug connectors or ring terminals. As for the cost, I haven’t added it all up. About £2,500 for the big parts (frame, wheels, etc.) from Cloudsto.com, which doesn’t include the battery. The rest is all good quality mountain bike parts, probably over £1,000. I recommend making your own battery, there are loads of tutorials including some by Andy. Good luck!
@@Manuel-gs6qw No problem. :) Having a battery made will be more expensive (and the most costly single item of the whole build!), but if you prefer that route, Andy will be able to help you. Send him an email via the cloudsto customer support and ask!
M G Yes you’re probably right. However, I’ve had some woeful experiences dealing with some sellers on AliExpress, specifically poor communications, incorrect goods being shipped, or not shipped at all, etc. Also, Andy has been very helpful with customer support, which is generally nonexistent via AliExpress, and I would rather support a friend based in the UK, despite the mark-up.
Andy, love your stuff its brilliant . one thing everyone forgets because its only a bicycle is personal safety after all its faster than a moped and some 125cc learners . I wear full motor bike helmet or mx one in hot weather and a bike jacket with body armour and glove . I took note from what you wear on your videos . keep up the great stuff I have learned so much from you ….cheers
100% mate i wouldnt wear anything less the biggest mistake in logic all ebike riders make is the helmet there logic is oh its a bike ill wear a bike helmet thatl keep me safe no no it wont bike helmets prevent owwies low speed low force impacts that will give you a lump or maybe a little cut ignoring higher power ebikes for a moment its not about what you hit its about what hits you you get slapped by a car thats traveling at 20-30mph that helmet does NOTHING for you the helmets gonna split open like a coconut and your spine has NOTHING to keep it straight and safe if your lucky your getting a concussion and a split skull if your unlucky your paralysed for life bike helmets are for protecting riders from pedal bike stupidity the bike contacting something non moving at the speeds a pedal bike can reach the second you come out to play on the roads its time for road protection motorbike helmet with all the safety markings spend less than 50 quid your a absolute mug 80 is the sweet spot for something budget between cheap and featured 120 gets you something nice hell you can spend 120 on a ebike bike helmet and all you get is less holes and a chinsy little visor and maybe a useless if not dangerous flasshy led in the back 120 in a motorbike helmet nets you a full face flip up helmet with secondary fighter pilot style sun visor and even bluetooth for the tunes body gear is personal choice you typically dont need it your not doing 80mph into corners even ive done sliders going 40mph in jeans and a highvis and its protected me well enough if you was gonna invest into body gear a set of bib and brace over trousers keeps you nice and dry in the rain and even a little warm too which is nice gloves nothing fancy here just some light over gloves in the summer cycle gloves are fine and some thicker ones in winter just to keep the wind chill off your fingers and keep them nice and nimble again we dont need motorsport performance armourerd gloves for what well be doing
Love your channel, I’ve just got a cheap £600 Zycle 250w I’m so obsessed now, used to ride dirt bikes and bmx many moons ago, planning a full build next year, keep the videos coming, you definitely know your gear ⚙️
Hey Andy, I’ve just discovered your channel and it’s brilliant! Thanks for such a lot of info on what goes into building a really trick electric bike 👌
Andy, just started watching your channel, some brilliant quality content, well done. Really got me hooked on eBikes. Need to save and get one of these kits.
What I really need to know is how to match the battery with the controller and how to fuse the battery so I don't blow the controller or build up too much heat where the phase wires get too hot or the battery wires get to hot and start to melt. Is that an iStorm helmet that you're using? I just bought one and I really like it. I also have the same alarm and recommend them for anyone with any vehicle that they don't want people messing with. It's cheap and the batteries last a really long time. 3 AAA batteries (US), for the alarm and a 12 volt battery for the remote. It also lets you know when the alarm battery is getting low because it takes longer for the confirmation tone to sound. If I just tap my finger on the bike it chirps to let people know that it's armed. Love your videos. Wish I had half of your energy. Stay safe. This virus is no joke. I love to see that after 3 years of riding, you still have that excitement as if you just got it. That says a lot about the quality of the build.
You want a real Beast of controller try an ASI BAC 8000. I have the same frame and wheels with a QS 205 V3. It pulls really hard up top with the field weakening
I believe what blows the display during regen is the current. If your battery reaches fully charge voltage during regen, the BMS blocks the regen charge from coming in. In that split second, the controller throws the current all over the place. The display being force fed 20-30A at full battery voltage, dies. Many of my accessories kept dying until I realized it's because of this.
QS273 is the obvious choice for the most powerful ebikes ;) Just a couple of points from the video. The dnm air suspensions can't handle cold weather so you would have to get the spring version imo. Magura brakes have way poorer perfomance in these fast ebikes than tektro dorados in my experience at least
@@dreadknot2238 Yh u go and and think that, but i would like to see u use half the power of a twostroke without having to thumbl with some stupid gearing mechanism. And a 2 stroke maxes out at around 30km/h this is almost double that.
@@TheNameIsForty yes and no. i can max 104 km/h depending what sprocket/ exhaust and how carburetor is tune , what you referring to is a stock china doll unported cylinder.
Amazing if there is anything I need to know about ebikes this is the man who I’d go to or ask. He truly knows his stuff. I bet the car in front was like wtf this guy can peddle like crazy haha. Great job pal.
you really have created a master piece of a bike mate, ive enjoyed watching you build it up over the years and hope you havn't finished with her yet. thx andy
Hi Andy, thanks for the interesting video. Your videos have inspired me to build my own. I bought the Em3ev enduro frame I am running MXUS 3k on 26" wheels with sabvoton and Em3Ev 14s 30Ah. I've had it running up to 3300w Failures thus far; DC-DC converter caught fire inside the frame, Sabvoton started malfunctioning and one of the cell series went up to 4.4v, probably BMS problems. The suppliers have been good enough to stick to the warranty terms and either repair or replace the components. All have been used well within their operating limits, so I think I was just unlucky. I think I'll build my own battery next, at least then I'll be able to repair without voiding any warranties. What can go wrong, will go wrong. I've been into 3D printing for a few years and it's been a great tool for quickly fabricating mounting hardware. I have selected narrow carbon fibre bars as I like the lack of flex. Here was my hardtail configuration earlier in the year ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TLaSzglUMlg.html Best wishes, Leo.
Leo Hogg a 3ah battery doesn’t sound like it can handle 3kw what cells where you using? You should build a lipo pack for short rides but also powerfull, your motor should be able to take 10kw stock. Im about to order 18s 10ah worth of high current lipos to put 3-4kw through my 1kw rated motor😂
This is great, I know it's not a new idea but to know its been done properly with good bits is stress free, getting rid of trail and error when building your own! Peace ✌️
From Puerto Rico , thank you for all information , I’m crazy to have one, my dream e bike.it will be fun to make a friendly run with some other loving e bikers.
Great vid!!! That does it I'm building a "box" bike! My dual drive hillbilly hot rod looks like Puerto Rican funeral doing down the road, and that new little bike would sure look good under Buffalo Bob! That looks like one fine horse!!!
wow andy youve come a long good job sir i built a couple a few years back and i am pleased that the customers tell me there still blowing the socks off factory bikes haha think i might build one for myself good vid enjoy! thanks.
That's an awesome stealth dude I'm building one myself. Can you respoke my 5000w hub into a 19"rim. I brought it on a 27.5 but it won't fit in my original frame hence going stealth bomber. Tried looking on your site can't see anything about respoking. Do I call you for details all the best neil.
These e-bikes are going to be remembered as And-E-bikes in the future if you keep pushing it the way you are, there's going to be a lot of jealous Andrew's out there wishing they had thought of doing it. LOL ✌🎉🍻🎉✌ keep up the hard work!!!
Love it m8! hello from California! i love what you are doing. I plan on ordering it from your website. unfortunately im not super confident on my build skills yet. I am a FPV drone pilot and have a fair degree of electronics acuity. As i revisit my bicycle 🚴 childhood dreams. I will gain the confidence to spend the buku bucks for this kit. i hope you the best. and carry on sir! well done indeed!
The all in one on board battery charger, the cycle Sataitor was my idea.... because I was using 3 different types of batteries on my 2 wheel drive ebike, I had li-ion, lifepo4 and SLA, I got tired of carrying 3 different chargers, so i sent an email to Justin " hey it would be really nice to have a built in, on board, all in one charger that can charge any chemistry ". Proportional regen, was not supposed to work through throttle, it was supposed to work through brake levers... pull one brake lever, get a set level of regen, pull both brake levers and regen slowly increase's until stopped or release of handle, this was due to carrying 200 .lbs in a trailer and not being able to stop with bike brakes alone.... so being able to increase regen rate depending on trailer load would help with braking, bit more to it, but thats the general idea.... Justin never liked regen, thought it was a waste of money and time, he said the numbers did not justify having it in his controllers.... until I said " dude, I got over $600 in brakes, at $80 a rotor it gets expensive to replace, I could care a less about how much it regens if it saves me money on brake parts ". Half of the new idea's to come of his shop in the last 10 years, where mine.... but he claimed them like his own.... like the Grin Runner, based on the one OSI makes in Ontario where I live, which I showed him... I asked if it was capable of adding all the features I wanted in a controller.... the trick was to program the brake levers to act with its own set of instructions, but I never got around to it and after Justin stole my " intellectual property " I pretty much stopped sending him my idea's and stopped working on most of them. So the cycle sataitor, is stolen property, my property. I still have the original emails I sent Justin....
how did you get the headlight to have a full beam mode? i have the same headlight and it doesnt have that feature Also did you sort out the regen/brakelight/speed cut issue?
Do you have to have pedals on these things? If you remove the chain and pedals and put foot pegs on it does it then count as an electric motor bike and require a CBT or similar?
Great bike I bought the set of shimano slx 4pots break I wonder if 170cm rear and 100cm front line will be long enough for this frame build or I should order the longer one?
Andy as you know I follow both you and Steve please can you advise what makes your kirby ebike 5000s kit clone / stealth any better than the clones that are half the price many thanks simon
How many miles will it do at say 40mph ? I'd love to get one of these for adventures on 100 mile trips or so but I'm scared it runs out of juice, un like a motorbike you can't take it to a petrol station to be re filled in seconds
Can you please tell us how we can add pegs on these? I know this video is old, but you are active in your comments from experience. And no one else is doing it. Please show us how we can do a proper peg conversion on these frames
Hi Andy, I'm planning to build one of these bikes and currently deciding on what specs to go for. The battery pack I currently have will only be capable of putting out 100A at 72V, but I'm leaning toward getting the 8kw motor with 150A controller. Using the higher rated components will give me a lot of headroom and less heat build up, and allow me to upgrade my battery at a later date if I want to unleash the full power. I do not want to risk damaging my current battery however - is there a way of setting the Sabvoton 150A controller to only draw 100A maximum from the battery? Are there any drawbacks to doing things this way? Thanks a lot :)
Hallo andy frome israel. Love your bike. Im working on my bike... what tipe (size) of braker did you use (ah) 10-40ah. ?? Did u use a fuse at all ? I am building 72v 40ah battery. 5000w mottor. Thanks best regards
Andy, I know this video is old but, I have a quick question. Where can I get the charge port and male plug you use on your bike? I think you said a music stereo jack. If you can give me a link or the exact name so i can google it I'd really appreciate it! Thanks Best Regards Mr. E-bike King Rob
160mm disc brakes only ? i think thats enough for 35k/ph or max 40 i have 180mm rotors on my 60k/ph fatbike(2kw) and i am planning to upgrade to 203mm because its really not safe without them.
Andy for people who can’t afford a sur Ron or a stealth bomber ebike do you have any experience with the Chinese copy cloned ones ? As I’ve looked at the clone models pref a stealth bomber as more like a bicycle and you can get one for around £2500 to £2800 from various places in uk
you said you can help, I'm stuck. i have the bike it originally had a Chinese controller set up threw ca3 with regen. shorted battery on frame wiped out controller. got new battery 72v and upgraded to savbathon but can't get wiring right. any idea where to go for help? usa California
no puncture yet on mine either ive done 1000 miles +, im using 3.0 -19 with a sqaure pattern, it makes a lot of noise though, I want to get more range so thinking of changing to a smooth tyre with a more rounded profile. Mitas H-01 49p at 3 inches wide look good, I feel like 2.75 inch might be too small for the rim width ? i'm unsure about it.
How much would I gotta save to buy a complete kit and would I be able to pay for it to be assembled as I'm not sure I trust myself I just really want one
And I'm having trouble finding that headlight you have on this beast. Do you have a link to one? Is it a 5 6 or 7 inch round light bucket? Any info would help even the size would probably help me locate one. Thanks, buddy.
