Grace Slick Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow (1967) Jefferson Airplane - Crown of Creation (1968) Jefferson Airplane - Long John Silver (1972) Song: White Rabbit One of the definitive voices of the sixties. @tomp8463 Thanks, Tom. I agree. Nutshell is a classic too. Have you ever seen the MTV Unplugged version of Down In A Hole? Legend has it Layne was really juiced on heroin and the band was worried if he could perform. After a couple of minutes, Jerry Cantrell looks over at the band, smiles and nods his head in approval because Layne was absolutely killing it. It's a magnificent performance. Have a good day, brother.
Gregg Allman is a great pick i always enjoy his singing and the Allman Brothers Band are one of my favorite southern rock bands with rock, blues and country all mixed together Thanks Pete.🎶🎶🎤🎸🎸🎹🥁🎶🎶
My pick for today is Grace Slick - Jefferson Airplane. Albums: 1) After Bathing At Baxter´s 2) Surrealistic Pillow 3) Volunteers Track: Rejoyce This gorgeous song sounds enigmatic, eerie and poetic. Grace´s hauntingly beautiful singing covers an extensive range of emotions and she plays the piano wonderfully.
My pick for the day is the legendary voice of Steve Marriott. Another unique voice. 24. Steve Marriott - Humble Pie / Small Faces (Desperation ; 30 Days in the Hole) 25. James Dewar - Robin Trower (Bridge of Sighs ; Twice Removed from Yesterday) 26. Paul Stanley - KISS (A Million to One ; Tonight You Belong to Me) 27. Paul Rodgers - Free / Bad Company (Bad Company ; Fire and Water) 28. Ronnie James Dio - Dio (Don't Talk to Strangers ; Holy Diver) 29. Pat Benatar (Hell is for Children ; Promises in the Dark) 30. Klaus Meine - Scorpions (We'll Burn the Sky ; Still Loving You) 31. Ian Anderson - Jethro Tull (Orion ; Heavy Horses)
My pick today will be Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention What We Did on our Holidays Unhalfbricking Leige and Leaf Song ‘Who Knows Where the Time Goes’ HM song ‘The Battle of Evermore’ from Led Zeppelin IV.
8/8 (unranked) - Tony Martin (Black Sabbath and other projects) Black Sabbath- Headless Cross Empire- Raven Ride Tony Martin- Thorns * It’s a testament to his incredible staying-power that my three album choices practically span the length of his career. Favorite Vocal Performance- “When Death Calls”
Awesome choice! My #1 female singer, amazing voice. My two songs are her rendition of Roy Orbison's "Blue Bayou" and the superb Little Feat song "Voices on the Wind" from the album "Let It Roll" (1988)
#24 Bruce Dickinson Iron Maiden "The Number of the Beast" (1982) Iron Maiden "Piece of Mind" (1983) Iron Maiden "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" (1988) "Tears of the Dragon" from his solo album Balls to Picasso (1994)
Glen Campbell. Albums (so many to choose from!) Ghost On The Canvas, Wichita Lineman & Bobbie Gentry and Glen Campbell. Glen was also one of the best guitarplayers ever, part of the Wrecking Crew and plays on many artists albums. Song: This is hard, could go with the great Jimmy Webb ballads like Wichita Lineman and By The Time I Get To Phoenix but I choose Gentle On My Mind, one of my favorite songs ever.
My pick for today is a bit unusual, but it is an opera singer Lucia Popp who died at an early age of 54 years. This song was partially played in the movie Bicentennial Man where Robin Williams plays a robot with gifts beyond its creators intentions but who aspires to become human. After he fixes a portable record player, this beautiful voice sings this song is heard in the basement. Watch this Video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4qxi-sYUT9s.htmlsi=JnsMtTicRWcs8Tog This is in memory of one of my heroes Robin Williams. Every time I hear this I think of him and my mother, which makes me openly weep. Lucia's performance and voice is just incredible. What a songbird. RIP Lucia, Robin and Mom, I miss you so very much.
Fantastic pick Pete. Gregg Allman is higher on my list. 24) Gram Parsons Favorite Albums: #1 The Flying Burrito Brothers - The Gilded Palace Of Sin #2 Grievous Angel #3 The Byrds - Sweetheart Of The Rodeo ("Gram" Edition) Favorite Performance: "Hot Burrito #1" Gram Parsons was one of the originators of Country Rock, or as he called it, "Cosmic American Music". His groundbreaking work with The International Submarine Band, The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and in his short, but incredibly productive solo career, paved the way for bands like the Eagles, Poco, and Pure Prairie League, and artists like Steve Earle and Dwight Yoakum. Gram was also the person who introduced a young folk singer named Emmylou Harris to Country Music. The future Country Music Hall Of Famer got her first taste of fame from her work on Gram's solo albums and with his touring band, The Fallen Angels. There were so many great Gram Parsons performances to choose from, including his wonderful duets with Emmylou, but ultimately I had to choose the nakedly emotional and gorgeously sung "Hot Burrito #1", from the Burritos' debut album, The Gilded Palace Of Sin. To me this is Gram's most beautiful and emotionally affecting performance. 24) Gram Parsons 25) Etta James 26) Janis Joplin 27) Grace Slick 28) Mitch Ryder 29) John Lydon 30) Lou Reed 31) Bryan Ferry
Wonderful choice. Gram's voice was beautiful. Such a compelling figure all around: the voice, the clothes, the approach to genre, even the details of his life and death. A true icon.
Good afternoon (evening, night or morning), Pete. Outstanding selection today in singer, albums and song. On my list later even though mine are not in any order. Personal pick today? An English musician and singer who had solo albums in her catalogue but is probably best known and remembered as the keyboardist and one of the distinctive vocalists of Fleetwood Mac - Christine Anne Mcvie, née Perfect. She started with Fleetwood Mac as a session player in 1968 but officially joined the band just two years later. She has been described as "the prime mover behind some of Fleetwood Mac's biggest hits." There lots to love vocally from Fleetwood Mac in its various incarnations but three albums selected today are Mystery To Me (1973; Rumours (1977); and Tango In The Night (1987). The song? The Way I Feel from Mystery To Me. Christine and her piano taking center stage speaks to the pianist in me. And her voice always had such an emotive sincerity when singing songs like this. The album closer is close second but this is the song that always comes to mind when I really just want to hear her. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your next selection.
@@melaniethurber5117 Thanks, Melanie. Not that I don't also have a fondness for the other vocalists but Christine had my attention when I bought Mystery To me during my 17th year.
Great pick, Pete! Gregg is coming up soon for me. My #24 pick is Paul Simon. Favorite albums: There Goes Rhymin' Simon, Still Crazy After All These Years, and Graceland. Favorite song: "Loves Me Like a Rock."
Love his music and play his albums quite a lot. Paul Simon s/t album often referred to as his debut, but wasn't! 😅 There Goes Rhymin' and Graceland three superb records.
Today`s pick: Linda Thompson from Richard & Linda Thompson. So beautiful, so expressive, a perfect compliment to Richards voice and compositions. Albums: "I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight", "Pour Down Like Silver", and "Shoot out The Lights". Song: "Just The Motion" off "Shoot Out The Lights"
ARTHUR BROWN, ARTHUR BROWN, ARTHUR BROWN! 1)Crazy World 2)Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come "Journey" (AMAZING!) 3)Tantric Lover. And don't miss the tune "Dance" off the album of the same name.
Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. Nice pick of yours. Talking of a singer who is also a great organ player & guitarist, my pick today is STEVE WINWOOD. So many different phases of his career, but he has excelled throughout. And that voice - sweet, shimmering, subtle, soulful (anything else beginning with S?) Albums: Blind Faith s/t; Traffic - John Barleycorn Must Die; Steve Winwood - Arc of A Diver. Song: Keep On Running. His first UK number one with the Spencer Davis Group. Terrific soulful voice, wonderful phrasing, especially from a guy who was only 17 at the time.
Thank you, Pete, for your pick. All the damn time. My 24 Pick: Stevie Nicks/ Fleetwood Mac Stevie Nicks & Christine McVie 1. Bella Donna 2. Rumours 3. Fleetwood Mac Song: Edge of Seventeen 🎤🎸🎵🎹🥁 Life is better with music
24. Christine McVie Albums: Rumours Tango in the Night Bare Trees Songs: Songbird You Make Loving Fun Everywhere Spare Me a Little of My Love 25. Meat Loaf 26. Sam Cooke 27. David Byron (Uriah Heep) 28. Steve Walsh (Kansas) 29. Leslie Gore 30. Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) 31. Ronnie Spector
Great choice, Debbie. I’m sorry to say that Christine didn’t make my list, although you can probably guess someone else who did make the cut! Your list is excellent so far, and I will be interested to see who else you have chosen. 👍
@@bryanbyrde8338 Thank you, Bryan. I have an idea on who you meant in your comment. That person almost made my list. I'm glad you are liking my list so far.
My #7 favorite vocalist is the Human Air Raid Siren Bruce Dickinson. My 3 albums are 1. 7th Son Of A 7th Son. 2. Powerslave 3. Live After Death. Favorite song performance is Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Ian Gillan In Rock Machine Head Burn Highway Star. I switched out Who Do We Think We Are at last second for... a Mark III David Coverdale album? I did indeed get burnt.

Bryan Adams BA- Room Service BA- waking up the neighbors BA- on a day like today Performance : Fearless. Love the rock/blues flavor of it. If you can't stand the big hits he has. He has more deep tracks. Amazing songwriter
Fantastic pick Dennis. I have all of the DC5 albums on vinyl. I wish Dave Clark would release their entire catalog on cds. For whatever reason, he’s unwilling to do it so far.
@@howardmackenzie4365 thank you howard. I dont know what the holdup is either. I was fortunate in finding the first 3 albums on 1 cd but it was made in the Czech republic and from what i read they just recorded off the best lps. They did that for all the DC5 library.
Today my pick #24 is Brad Delp of Boston. My three albums are debut album, don’t look back and third stages. Song I’m choosing as his best vocal performance is A Man I’ll never be from don’t look back, such a killer song
My pick for today: Freddie Mercury (a no brainier). One of the most talented and charismatic people to have ever lived! Hard to pick a favourite from him, but at the moment I would have to say Innuendo. A masterpiece of a song! And a stunning vocal performance from someone who was dying at the time!
Great choice!! Gregg certainly has a unique voice!! My #24: Going with a great singer who was in a band with his brothers for quite some time, and has dome some great solo work as well. He definitely has his own voice and doesn't sound like anyone else. Talking about the great Aaron Neville. Albums: Uptown, Family Groove, The Grand Tour Song: The Grand Tour
Only recently started listening to the Allman Brothers, what a great singer Greg was! My choice today... Thunder's Danny Bowes. Top three albums - Back Street Symphony, Laughing on Judgement Day and All the Write Noises. Favourite song - Distant Thunder.
Great choice Pete. Pick 24 for me is Chrissie Hynde the 'no nonsense' great front woman with The Pretenders. Albums..... Pretenders s/t 1979 Pretenders ll 1981 Learning To Crawl 1984 Song..... Pack It Up from Pretenders ll, another 'I'll take no prisoners" performance with this one, fast paced and with Chrissie's full on vocal work it's one of their best songs for me.
Hi Keith, great choice and recommendations. Chrissie will also be appearing for me, so we will have at least one shared pick this month. Are you thinking of listing your top 30 guitarists next month? I would love to do it but I have absolutely no idea who would make my list after the top few, so I will probably have to sit that one out.
Good pick with Gregg that's one of mine on my list Pick 24 Robert Palmer Sneakin Sally through the Alley While it's barely over a half hour long I have to go with NuWave influenced Clues Secrets Favorite vocal performance I didn't mean to turn you on
# 24 Ozzy Osbourne Probably the vocalist who will be mentioned the most this month. Best albums: Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Vol. 4 Best song: Black Sabbath (where it all began…) # 25 Donald Fagen # 26 Karen Carpenter # 27 Robert Plant # 28 Warren Zevon # 29 Sting # 30 Roger Hodgson # 31 Barry Hay
Well this lady just gets better and better, she has a great husky voice and her guitar playing is off the scale. I have been listening to this English blues lady since the early 2000s and always try and get to see her when she is touring (she now lives in the US and is great friends with Joe Bonamassa). My pick for Day 8: Vocalist: - Joanne Shaw Taylor Albums: - Diamonds In The Dirt, The Dirty Truth & Reckless Heart Song: - Jealousy (cover of Frankie Miller song)
Hi Mordrid, excellent pick, not one I'd considered from a vocal point of view, love the few albums I have of hers, haven't got round to the latest one yet...
@@iainhead9898Cheers Iain, I just like her voice and feel it just keeps getting better, her guitar work is pretty good too. Her latest album is a bit more of an upbeat feel good album rather than the deeper blues stuff
24. Phil Anselmo (Pantera) * Cowboys From Hell (1990) * Vulgar Display of Power (1992) * The Great Southern Trendkill (1996) - Cemetery Gates (1990) 25. Eric Bloom (Blue Oyster Cult) 26. my pick today is eric burdon album" greatest hits of the animals songs 1 its my life 2 please dont be misunderstood 3 we gotta get outta this place 4 dimples 5 house of the rising sun cheers
Great pick my friend. I don’t know any of The Animals’ original albums but their greatest hits are excellent, and Eric’s vocals play a massive part in that.
DAY 24-STEVE WALSH-Kansas A wonderful voice him having and with such great albums KANSAS having with great tunes on so many list 3 for this day only of Left Overture -Point Of Know Return and well to go with Freaks Of Nature from 95. And with all the great tunes an big honorable cause to be fair of use of most love Carry On Wayward Son which I would go with too a top song. But want to mention and use I Can Fly off Freaks Of Nature and such a good and underrated album that is pretty good. The voice Steve has is so good as years later on the song and album that sounds like he never lost a step although Ronnie Platt in his place for Kansas as Steve and time caught up with him retiring, And him in his 70s these days. Take care friends and hugs.🎶🎶🤗 Btw great choice Pete with Gregg Allman. What a voice, will have him later in my list.
I recently got into The Allman Brothers band and while the guitar playing was really good, it was Gregg's voice that got me! I love that husky, southern tone and those growls, holy cow!
#24 Eddie Money Two Tickets To Paradise - Eddie Money San Francisco by way of Brooklyn. I have a couple of other albums, but IMO they don't even come close to the debut. 10/10
Hello Pete and everyone. Today’s choice is a British soul singer who has covered many songs made famous by some of the legends who preceded him. However, I actually prefer when he sings his own compositions, as they tend to have more cross-genre appeal: 24. Seal Albums - Seal, Seal II and 7 Song - Kiss From A Rose 25. Billy Joel 26. Don Henley 27. Skye Edwards 28. Bill Withers 29. Bob Seger 30. Elizabeth Fraser 31. Freddie Mercury
Thanks for your reply regarding Chrissie Hynde. I'm not very familiar with Seal's music, l did have his first album on a cassette, it must have disappeared along with 52nd Street by Billy Joel 😮 My youngest son burned me a copy CD some time ago of his album System which isn't bad, l like a couple of tracks, l think there's one called Loaded which is good. Apart from that l don't know much about him. I'd have to put my thinking cap on regarding my top guitarists. A few spring to mind of course, anyway l might string along! 😅
Morning / Afternoon, everyone, hope we're all having a good week so far. Pick #24 sees me returning to the UK for a man whose career stretches back to nigh on 50 years in the business, the vast majority of which time he spent fronting the same classic, melodic and uniquely British hard rock band... that is, until earlier this year, when we sadly lost the band's founder and main songwriter... Bob Catley, of MAGNUM ...as well as a solo artist, regular guest on albums by the likes of AVANTASIA and the singer for HARD RAIN, the band he and the late, great Tony Clarkin put together while Magnum were on hiatus. His, rich, warm tone was instantly recognisable, and he was a master at creating atmosphere in order to get Clarkin's lyrics across to their audience. Picking 3 albums will he no easy feat from a catalogue comprising 22 Magnum albums, ad well 7 solo and the 2 by hard rain, but I'll have a go! Pick #1 is a no-brainer, though... Selected Albums: 1. On A Storyteller's Night - MAGNUM, 1985 2. The Monster Roars - MAGNUM, 2022 3 The Tower - Bob CATLEY, 1998 ( A wonderful collaboration with Gary Hughes of the band TEN) Highlighted performance: "How Far Jerusalem" from Storyteller's Night, but, in my head, the opening song of the set when I saw them blow the roof of a packed out Marquee Club in London... After all that, I nearly forgot my HM for today, number 8 for the month, Mr Ian Kilminster, aka... Lemmy, of MOTORHEAD Gone, but not forgotten, and I'm sure he would be the first to acknowledge his limitations as a singer, but that didn't stop him being a great vocalist! Selected album: Overkill Selected peeformance: "Killed By Death" from No Remorse
@@iainhead9898 Hi Iain. I posted a comment here in your section but it seems to have got itself posted onto the main comments. I do obviously like Magnum and Hard Rain, but Bob is just among my Honourable Mentions. Lemmy too, is an interesting choice. Certainly not blessed with the greatest vocal chops, but suited Motorhead's dirty, grimy rock n roll perfectly and was full of character and what I find with Motorhead is that the songs are surprisingly hooky and strangely melodic despite that vocal gruffness.
Cool picks and article Iain -- Bob is on my list as well. Lemmy SHOULD be, love that gruff, sand-paper, chicken-bone-in-my-throat sound that only he could produce. Played Mark & Marcie Free last night and I am very impressed! Was up until midnight with a lot of your LP selections and even more. Really like Unruly Child's last two CD's "Big Blue World" and "Our Glass House." Kobra's "Thrill Of a Lifetime" is a scorcher. Re-played a lot of Signal's output at work today, just might be my favorite. Really weird I've never heard of Marcie (or Mark) before with all the music 'excavating' I seem to do year after year. Thank you for the introduction!
Choice today is a singer who is both part of a vocal and guitar team. I'm picking a southern rock vocalist too, the perfect southern rock radio voice, DON BARNES from. 38 Special. Don's voice has just about the right amount of soul and grit and southern drawl for the melodic hard rock tunes of the band and sung most of their biggest hits. When combined with Donnie's even grittier voice, often in the same song, the results were terrific. Favourite Don Barnes albums Wild Eyed Southern Boys Special Forces Ride The Storm (solo) Favourite DB vocal The Love That I've Lost (from Rockin' Into The Night) shows Don's full range from rock. balladeer to strident hard rock. belter.
Hi Pete. Good pick in Greg Allman. here is my pick for day 24, Pick # 24 - Eric Bloom - Blue Oyster Cult - 3 albums - Secret Treaties - Fire Of Unknown origin - Spectres - Song -Astronomy

Gregg Allmann is superb. My choice today is STEVE WINWOOD. Great vocals across these three albums: Arc of a Diver, Back in the High Life and Steve Winwood. The latter is my favourite Winwood album and my favourite vocal performance is Time is Running Out.
My choice for the day and I have these in no particular order. ……. John Lyndon . He is very identifiable and witty imho. Best albums. Obviously never mind the bollocks in the Sex Pistols. In Pil. I would choose “album” and “That what is Not”. Best song is tough but I’d choose “bodies” from Never Mind….. cheers.
Super pick! Gregg will be in my top 10. The bride and myself have a visit to the Big House planned for October when we go see the Crowes in Macon. #24 for myself is Tony Martin 1) Cross Purposes 2) The Eternal Idol 3) Headless Cross .. song - Cross of Thorns

My pick today... Kenny Loggins. So many instantly recognized hits, too many to mention, but Danny's Song has always been my favorite Loggins and Messina Full Sail Celebrate me Home
My favorite Greg Allman vocal has got to be the live version of "Get On With Your Life" from "An Evening With ..." from '92. There's some stuff towards the end of the track that's pretty mind blowing, even for Greg.
My #24 pick is Myles Richard Bass[1] (born November 27, 1969), known professionally as Myles Kennedy,[2] is an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He is the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Alter Bridge and of Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators alongside guitarist Slash. A former guitar instructor from Spokane, Washington, Kennedy has worked as a session musician and songwriter, making both studio and live appearances with several artists, and has been involved with several projects throughout his career. Albums-The Last Hero One Day Remains and Blackbird Song-The Other Side
For pick # 24, I'm going with Myles Kennedy. My favorite albums are Apocalyptic Love recorded with Slash and Blackbird and AB III with Alter Bridge. My favorite vocal is on You're a Lie from Apocalyptic Love

THIRTY-ONE FAVORITE VOCALISTS Nick Cave Australia - born 1957 Three vocal highlights - “The Ship Song,” from the album The Good Son (1990) with the Bad Seeds “O Children,” from Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus (2004) with the Bad Seeds “Bellringer Blues,” from the album Grinderman 2 (2010) by Grinderman Previous choices - Patrik J Selleby Phil Lynott Ray Davies Rob Zombie Roger Daltrey Thom Yorke Van Morrison
24. Sting The Police - Ghost In The Machine (1981) The Police - Regatta de Blanc (1979) The Police - Outlandos D'Amour (1978) One can take Sting for granted, and more so grow to hate him during his increasingly pretentious jazz-pop MOR solo years, but his unique voice is just as innovative as Andy Summers' impressionist guitar shapes and Copelands rhythms, surfing on top of the music.
Gregg Allman was one of the best vocalists especially on the southern rock scene. I once got to see The Allman Brothers Band with Doug Gray from Marshall Tucker and Ronnie Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Now that was a lineup of great singers !! There was a warmth in Gregg’s voice that stood out no matter how loud the music. Once I was at Alex Cooley’s Electric Ballroom in Atlanta watching another band…and Gregg was sitting in the back enjoying the show. It was such a cool memory for me. And the songs are there for all time…so play on !!
24. Singer: Don Dokken. 😃👍. He had a melodic Cali metal voice that made me a teen fan. 😇. Three albums: (i) Breaking The Chains (1981), (ii) Tooth and Nail (1984), and (iii) Under Lock and Key (1985). Favorite top of mind vocal track: “Just Got Lucky” from Tooth and Nail. 🔥. Great vintage MTV video for this song including guitar great George Lynch playing on an active Hawaiian volcano. 🌋. Rock Always! - Heather
Hi Heather, love Dokken but didn't pick him in the end. With them, for me, it was the overall sound, and in isolation, the vocal didn't quite meet my exacting standards, haha!

Interesting picks Iain. I do like Magnum and Bob Catley, I own most of the albums plus the 2 Hard Rain as well, but he only makes my honourable mentions. As does Lemmy. Rather like the great jazz trumpter Louie Armstrong, their voices just have great character and that gives them so much charm.
Day 8. Waylon Jennings - Waylon Live, Lonesome On'ry and Mean, Honky Tonk Heroes - song: House Of The Rising Sun Waylon Jennings has amore soul in his little finger than almost all contemporary country artists going today. He was the start of the "outlaw country" genre and is still a heavy influence. 1. Bill Champlin - Welcome to the Dance, A Circle Filled with Love, Live 2.
