DAY 6- STEVE MARRIOT Humble Pie Etc. Hey folks. well a voice no longer with us. But there on records and on film and video footage, Short Bio piece below after my comments. The 3 albums would be Rock On, Smokin. And Thunderbox. Have Rock On that is on Cassette. The other two albums as vinyl albums. As to great songs there is many nice great songs. The HMs ones on Rock On - Shine on which Frampton sings lead. The tracks with Marriot HMS -Stone Cold Fever , Rollin Stone Big George and Strange Days. The rest of album is alright. On Smokin' with Hot N' Nasty, C'Mon Everybody. 30 Days In The Hole Road Runner. Those the notable songs to HMS. On Thunderbox the title track Thunderbox , Groovin With Jesus, No Money Down is good. And others are for as to a covers like album. The track that Steve does o best that I choose is on Thunderbox and "I Can't Stand The Rain" where Steve does justice with great song for a cover of soulstress Ann Peebles song. The song as their own with Steves vocals reaching up there and keepin the song bluesy funk and soulful. And so there you have it. Oh and extra to a great mention of the two albums of Rockin The Fillmore and Eat It. With great tracks could have used. In fact a high HM, As whole album is good so be sure to mention at least one from live Fillmore album. I Don't Need No Doctor. Ray Charles cover. Done far superior for a performance as well I saw Steve Marriot with Steve Marriot and his All Stars open along with Starcastle for headliner Foghat in in 76. Then saw Humble Pie open with Mothers Finest and Angel for headliner Mahagony Rush . Frank Marino yes and then in 82 saw Humble Pie headline. opener a band called St Ives. Steve playing great rhythm guitar All three with Steve at his best when he sang. In 82 maybe noticeably high or little drunk. bUt he snag just aa well as anyone would like him, There you are. Great choice Pete. Paul Rodgers and yea Bad Company and Free. Course The Firm also as well as his solo. Now some Bio of Humble Pie. ----------------------------------------------- Humble Pie are an English rock band formed by singer-guitarists Peter Frampton and Steve Marriott in Moreton, Essex,[not verified in body] in 1969. Often regarded as one of the first supergroups in music, Humble Pie experienced moderate popularity and commercial success during the 1970s with hit songs such as "Black Coffee", "30 Days in the Hole", "I Don't Need No Doctor", "Hot 'n' Nasty" and "Natural Born Bugie" among others. The original line-up of members featured lead singer/frontman and guitarist Steve Marriott of Small Faces, singer-guitarist Peter Frampton of the Herd, former Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley and drummer Jerry Shirley from the Apostolic Intervention. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have a great day friends and take care and hugs.🎶🎶🎤🤗. Cheers 🧙‍♂

@christophercoles4401

Excellent pick with Paul Rodgers, Pete. I've got him coming up just a bit later on my list. 6) Van Morrison Favorite Albums: #1 Astral Weeks #2 Moondance #3 The Story Of Them featuring Van Morrison Favorite Performance: "Cypress Avenue" (Astral Weeks) The first time I can remember hearing Van Morrison was when the radio played "Gloria" by the Belfast R&B group Them, of which he was the lead singer. That song, written by Morrison, became a garage band staple along with another Morrison-penned hit, "Mystic Eyes". The band also recorded excellent covers of John Lee Hooker's "Baby Please Don't Go" and Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue". I also have fond memories of hearing "Brown Eyed Girl" blasting from transistor radios from the street to the beach in the summer of 1967 when I was just a kid. But my first real encounter with the genius of Van Morrison was when I heard the brilliant Astral Weeks. I have rarely been as captivated by an album on the first listen as I was by that record. The blend of Folk, Blues, Jazz and Classical styles was unlike anything I had heard before (or since), but it was Van's voice, so full of pain, compassion, pure beauty and mystical awe that truly captured my imagination. There were so many landmark Van Morrison performances from which to choose a "favorite". From the Irish Soul of "I've Been Working", "Crazy Love", "Domino", and "Jackie Wilson Said (I'm In Heaven When You Smile)" to the rustic "Tupelo Honey" to the pure rockin' "Wild Night" to the deeply spiritual "Did Ye Get Healed?". But ultimately, I went with a song that absolutely mesmerized me the first time I heard it, and that still moves me when I hear it today, "Cypress Avenue" from Astral Weeks. The song is the centerpiece of the album, coming as it does at the end of Side One of the vinyl. For Morrison growing up in Belfast Cypress Avenue was "the street we would all aspire to - the other side of the tracks....the Beersbridge Road had the railway line cut across it, and one side of it was one side of the tracks and Cypress Avenue was the other." In the song Morrison reminisces about a more innocent time, recounting the sights and sounds of days gone by, while escaping into his imagination, an oasis of romantic reverie. The maddening vision of innocence that unfolds is out of time and sexless. His dream lady in her antique carriage is only 14 years old! Morrison's singing is totally possessed, moving from chocked desire to exultation to hushed wonder. It's a captivating, sometimes disturbing, but ultimately moving performance that's unlike any other in popular music. It's one of many performances that put Van Morrison in a class by himself. 6) Van Morrison 7) Ronnie Van Zant 8) Robert Plant 9) Mick Jagger 10) Ian Gillan 11) Frank Sinatra 12) Aretha Franklin 13) John Lennon 14) Paul McCartney 15) Jim Morrison 16) Dusty Springfield 17) Bruce Springsteen 18) Chris Cornell 19) Johnny Rivers 20) Ray Davies 21) Dion 22) Levon Helm 23) John Fogerty 24) Gram Parsons 25) Etta James 26) Janis Joplin 27) Grace Slick 28) Mitch Ryder 29) John Lydon 30) Lou Reed 31) Bryan Ferry

Another informative write up of a brilliant song. I live “up the road” from Cypress Avenue so know it well. He played a concert in the avenue a few years ago. Can be a bit of a curmudgeon at times ( I know from the only time I met him!) but his music is like no,other. My personal favourite album, currently, is Veedon Fleece.

Great pick, an absolute favorite of mine as well. Although Carl sings the lead on God Only Knows. A stoke of genius and humility in my opinion for Brian to let Carl take that one, as I believe Carl to have the best pure singing voice of any of the three Wilson brothers. But Brian's falsetto tops them all.

My pick for the day is Jimi Jamison of Survivor / Cobra / solo. Love his voice. I wish there was more material with him and Survivor. I believe Deep Purple was looking at him during the 80s. No particular order, and while I love all these vocalists, the starred (**) names are my most favorite. A number of my favorites may lack a powerful voice, but they all have a unique sounding quality. I've posted a couple vocal track favorites of mine as well: 6. Jimi Jamison** - Survivor / Cobra / solo (I Can't Hold Back ; The Search is Over) 7. Geoff Tate** - Queensryche (Take Hold of the Flame ; Someone Else?) 8. Jay Buchanon** - Rival Sons (Too Bad ; Mosaic) 9. Phil Mogg - UFO (Light's Out / Too Much of Nothing) 10. Jorn Lande** - Jorn (My Own Way ; Bridges Will Burn) 11. David King - Fastway (If You Could See ; We Become One) 12. Roy Khan** - Kamelot / Conception (Forever ; Wander) 13. John Cafferty - John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band (On the Dark Side ; Just a Matter of Time) 14. Rob Halford - Judas Priest (Beyond the Realms of Death ; Victim of Changes) 15. David Coverdale - Deep Purple / Whitesnake (Mistreated / Standing in the Shadow) 16. Jack Russell - Great White (Rock Me ; House of Broken Love) 17. Bruce Dickinson - Iron Maiden (Hallowed Be Thy Name ; Revelations) 18. Elvis Presley (American Trilogy ; If I Can Dream) 19. Michael Kiske - Helloween / solo (Do I Remember a Life? / Giants) 20. Steve Perry - Journey (Stone in Love ; Still They Ride) 21. Tony Martin - Black Sabbath (Anno Mundi ; The Headless Cross) 22. Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. Love your pick, which i went with a few days ago. One of the all-time greats. My pick is another one. it's IAN GILLAN. Deep Purple was my band in the 70s, and Ian's dynamic vocals had a lot to do with that. Albums: Deep Purple - In Rock. Really got me into the band, and heavy rock generally. So raw and exciting, and Ian almost seems possessed at times. Deep Purple - Machine Head. From the blistering Highway Star and Space Trucking to the tender When A Blind Man cries, Ian's vocals scream quality (literally!). Ian Gillan Band - Clear Air Turbulence. Nice change in direction after he left Purple, to more jazz and funk driven rock, but Ian is perfect for it. Song: Child In Time. Had to be.

Awesome pick, Dave! Top three on my list. Purple was also one of the first bands that got me into heavy rock! When I was still a kid. I bought "In rock" on cassette with pocket money and was quite disappointed that "Smoke on the Water" was not there. # 6 Jim Morrison It never ceases to amaze me again and again that a singer who was active for less than five years and only recorded six records with his band is counted among the most important rock musicians of all time. But that is of course completely justified, because Jim Morrison was unique as a singer and performer. For me, too, he belongs right at the top of this ranking. Woman Best song: Riders on the Storm # 7 Neil Diamond # 8 Neil Young # 9 Ann Wilson # 10 Mariusz Duda # 11 Buck Dharma # 12 Peter Hammill # 13 Mick Jagger # 14 Ian Gillan # 15 Annie Haslam # 16 John Fogerty # 17 Phil Mogg # 18 John Wetton # 19 Chris Thompson # 20 Michael Sadler # 21 Gary Brooker # 22 Bruce Dickinson # 23 Paul McCartney # 24 Ozzy Osbourne # 25 Donald Fagen # 26 Karen Carpenter # 27 Robert Plant # 28 Warren Zevon # 29 Sting # 30 Roger Hodgson # 31 Barry Hay

Pick #6: DAVID COVERDALE of Deep Purple & WhiteSnake fame. David- with that powerful, bluesy baritone was always very distinctive & he looked every bit the rock star!!! Though since the mid-nineties he's had some health issues-due to age/touring + when you reach those high notes with a harder edge(1987 album forward).... the voice has to change or burnout. Regardless;Dave's got a place in the elite vocalists in rock history. My favorite tracks: *Waiting On You(Coverdale/Page), *Looking For Love, Only My Soul,+ Ready & Willing(WhiteSnake), *Drifter(Deep Purple).

It kills me to leave Teaser and the Fire Cat (1971) off the list. I adore “King of the Trees” from Buddha and the Chocolate Box. Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Great pick for singer and song. Personal pick today (and again, mine in no particular order)? A English gentlemen who is a singer, musician, actor and co-founder of a band known as The Who - Roger Daltrey. You've already picked and discussed Roger earlier this month so not much to add except still haven't quite accepted Martin Popoff's comments on his vocals. But we all hear things differently. The three albums? Well, there all Who albums so let's go with Who's Next, Quadrophenia, and Tommy. The most likely choice is the one you made earlier so going with another selection of song - Behind Blue Eyes which shows Roger's softer as well as his bombastic sides. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your final five.

Talking about the legendary Waylon Jennings!! Albums: Lonesome, On'ry & Mean, Ol' Waylon, I've Always Been Crazy Song: Belle Of The Ball

Hi guys, creeping closer to the end, and we're already at our 6th favourite vocalist (if we've been doing this in order!) My pick #6 was once the lead singer of the very first headlining act I ever saw, but sadly not that night as by then he had passed, and been replaced by the man who still occupies the vocal spot in the band to this day. My HM, in keeping with my attempt to connect my 2 picks each day, however loosely, was the lead singer, and guitarist, of the support act that night. If you read my waffle regularly, you may well already know who I mean... And so, on to my 6th favourite singer, and his band whose early albums I played all the time in my formative, teenage years Again, possibly not the greatest technically, but what he lacked in technique he more than made up for with his delivery, the lyrics often imbued with cheeky, schoolboy humour... Bon Scott of AC/DC Selected Albums: 3. Highway To Hell 2. Let There Be Rock 1. Powerage Highlighted Performance: "Let There Be Rock" - Live version from If You Want Blood, You Got It And so, yes, never saw him live sadly, and that first ever gig with Brian, which was still brilliant as a fan, saw my very first live encounter with a hard rock band in the shape of the support act and my HM for today... Dave Meniketti of Y&T Highlighted track: "I Believe In You" from Earthshaker

8/26 (unranked) - Freddie Mercury Queen- Queen II Queen- A Night at the Opera Queen- A Day at the Races Favorite Vocal Performance- “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Yes, the song is so overplayed, overplayed doesn’t seem to adequately describe it! However, Mercury is doing so much vocally here! I remember being completely blown away when I first heard this song. If I’m being honest with myself, I think this is the song to go with.

Late post today, been at another friend's birthday, this is the first opportunity I've had to post my choice. No real need for introduction to my no. 6 pick as he is one of THE most iconic vocalists and frontman in the history of rock. Still singing today as a solo artist with a very diverse catalogue Oh and apparently he was in some band called Led Zeppelin, ROBERT PLANT. Fave Albums Led Zeppelin ll The Untitled (Led Zeppelin 4/The Runes album etc) Physical Graffiti Fave Vocal. What Is And What Should Never Be (from soft and almost dreamlike to explosive power) Love Pete's choice today, the rock singer's rock singer and coming on my list too soon.

Pick number 6 Peter Gabriel. It can't be denied that Peter was pivotal in the development and success of Genesis. His decision to leave the band in 1975 caused great concern with Genesis fans, many thinking it spelt the end of the band, but no, it was Phil Collins to the rescue! Peter's solo career was a huge success though as an estimated 16 million album sales would testify. Albums..........
