My favorite AK is the AMD65. Especially the TGI built guns with original barrels and receivers. They are very light and handy and are excellent shooters.
I learned everything about SKS from you , now I sm a fan of SKS and I have four now. You are very informative and educational. I plan to learn more related to AK from you too. Please keep up the good works.
i was thinking of selling off my late 60s type 26 SKS since its in junky condition and i already have a nice russian refurb but i found your channel a week ago and watched through a bunch of your SKS videos and now im having second thoughts about selling it. maybe ill try bedding the action since it has some play in the stock although i dont know if its worth the effort. the wood is pretty dented up the only thing it has going for it is the stock serial matches the gun so i kind of feel like i should keep it together. i feel like i underappreciated the chinese SKS until i watched your videos explaining the build quality and features like chrome lining.
@@user-im6fy4qp6mthat's awesome man. You can always bed it into a nice new stock just keep that original cause it's rad. I bet it's gone on quite the journey to get where it is now!
Funny gulf coast story, I live in Pensacola, FL. and charter fish for red snapper for a living. Ciguatera is no joke, it's why i stress to my customers to not eat anything raw on a reef fish, especially bigger ones.
Yeah, you aren’t kidding. Being from the mountains, I thought food poisoning meant being stuck in the bathroom for 8 hours. Not three weeks of neurological torture. Not a mistake I’ll make twice.
Red Snapper eyeballs... Hmm... Sounds like something in a witches brew- I'd avoid them. Glad to see any AK's or SKS's you have. Or anything pew pew you have.
This is an incredible channel brother thankyou for the knowledge youre constantly dropping but also the entertainment. I also love when you go dont rabbit holes too. Earlier i watched a video something about "introduction to the Yugo sks" and i immediately got a history lesson. Great stuff man thankyou
Thanks for the rundown, and cool collection. Very tasteful and functional updates on your "go guns." Sorry about the health issues and hopefully they're better soon. Any kind of nerve injuries are no joke - your nerves aren't meant to be damaged, so they're really bad at healing compared to other tissues.
I would like to hear your take on the AK-12 "platform". I have only been watching for a short time, but just like a handful of other extremely informative YTers, I almost always think of the Matrix and say "I know kung-fu" lol. It wpuld also be cool to see a video by you on going about assembling an AK from "scratch"(LEGALLY). I have no desire to have to worry about the law and I would never expect you to put yourself in that position of encouraging it, either. No worries if either of those requests do not interest you, your work definitely benefits from your enthusiasm about the topic and I wouldn't want you to do it any other way! 🙏🏽
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately I don’t have any experience at all with the AK-12, I’ve probably seen exactly the same information you have. I’d love to have the opportunity to form my own opinion, but in the meantime I have no reason to doubt the conclusions of others. Hopefully more AK content in some form or another coming soon.
Great video again, good to see a good Bulgarian AK, because my experience with them back in the days when I served in the Bulgarian army, we were using the old “original” AKMs with the wooden stock and they were very unreliable and that’s why I own American PSA AK47 here! The PSL is on my list for sure, maybe next Christmas, I hope they don’t double in price by then😊👍
I hope you are feeling much better now. I really like the AK design. It would be nice if they became legal again in Canadistan. But I certainly won't be holding my breath.
As always Triangle, you outdid yourself again. I have just bought my first AK, just a bog standard Chinese Type 56, which is all we can buy, legally, in South Africa but cant wait until i pick it up in April( yes, it takes that long here) keep well
Thanks friend. Sorry about the wait, but congratulations on the Type 56 AK, that should be excellent. I referenced your Zimbabwean issued Type 56 Carbine in my most recent video! Keep well.
Really nice collection. Personally, I went the 5.45 route on my primary AK, but I've got several short bois to utilize the 7.62 Soviet round and a VEPR 54r w 16.5" barrel and CSSpecs 10 round mags w an older Viper PST 1-4 LPVO en lieu of the PSL. I've owned 2-3 PSLs and they've never been great performers for me. Love your channel and I'd love to send you pics of an SKS I recently purchased and get your take on it.
Honestly, it sounds like you made wiser decisions than me. Of course both the 7.62 and 5.45 have pros and cons, but I think overall the 5.45 is clearly the better performer. And 7.62 really shines in those shorter barrels. Smart. Plus, I’m under the impression the 54R vepr has a much thicker barrel profile than the PSL, and I think that’s the PSL’s biggest weak spot. Alongside ammo pickiness and the fact that the “pre-2018” ones are apparently pretty hit or miss. I always love to check out SKS’s. Feel free to shoot me an email at triangletwentysix@gmail.com.
@Triangle26 the 545 was a complete accident. Back in 2014, I contacted Krebs to order a KV13, and all they had in stock was the 545 model. Tbh, I'm glad it worked out that way. I've since owned and sold 4-5 other 545 AKs, but that one ain't going anywhere. I also had another VEPR in 54r, that one with a 23" barrel. I followed your same logic in keeping the short-barrel version based on rigidity should equal better accuracy.
I have no AKs.............that sucks! I have no seafood poisoning..............that's awesome, lol. Thanks for sharing and hoping there's an AK in my collection soon. Happy holidays to you and yours.
Loved your SKS vids and you followed up with a great video on Eastern Block AKs. I have a Polytech in 762 and a newer Zastava in 556. Now I want more! Stay away from those fish eyeballs! 😅
Hey Tony! Thanks for the well wishes. I hope I'm 100% soon as well. Honestly, this sucks. Current wish-list for rifles is mostly around subjects I want to cover on the channel. Top three would be "Security Force" Type 56 Carbine, "Early M21" Type 56 Carbine, and a VZ58. Maybe a Chinese AK. I'm hoping I can make at least one of those happen early this Spring. Merry Christmas brother, hope you and yours are well.
Thanks friend. Always praying for Canada, going after the SKS is such an insult. Today it's the SKS, tomorrow it will be the Enfield, and next week they will start putting limits on how much maple syrup you are allotted per pancake.
Well, we have Type 81s as well as SKSs, but they're not taking SKSs. The Liberals have expressed their desire multiple times to do so but they got BTFO in their attempt to do so with legislation. They can always ban it with an OIC (equivalent to an Executive Order), like they did with ARs, but they've made no progress confiscating ARs - which, unlike SKSs, are all already registered with the government - and admitted they're not even going to try until after the next election (which they won't win). So yeah it's not a *good* situation but it's not as dire as a lot of people seem to think. One of the few upsides of being governed by 70IQ morons.
Thanks for the feedback! It's definitely been a low road for me to get the technical stuff ironed out, so it helps to know what works and what doesn't.
Awesome video! Great comparisons between the triggers, the Fime 2stage are really underrated triggers. Is there a reason you don’t use ALG triggers? It’s usually first choice for the AK.
Thanks for watching! Put simply, it's a training issue for me. All my muscle memory is based on the 6 lb trigger of the M4. To make matters worse, I spend most of my days shooting heavy, multi-staged milsurp triggers. I automatically take out the slack an offset the poundage, which is pretty much the worst habit someone could have when switching to a short travel, light weight, single stage. I can safely shoot high-performance triggers just fine in range or competitions contexts, but I'm pretty sure that if I was ever put in a stressful situation with a trigger like that, my risk of breaking a shot too early would be unacceptably high. Muscle memory always wins. Maybe one day I'll put in the work to safely reap those benefits, but until then, I'm just hanging out in that >5lb range where I can safely and effectively shoot on autopilot.
@@Triangle26 point taken. I too keep all my triggers stock, I even got used to the m70 one and I like it pretty well. They are light triggers and for me they compare to my stamped & milled mak90. Keep making great videos bro & happy holidays!
“Most AK triggers will work in an M70 provided they're fitted properly” -Zastava USA Public Relations If you can direct me to Zastava putting out a contrary statement, I would be very curious to see that. I’m suspicious that such a statement actually exists, because that would seem to require Zastava to admit that there is something wrong with their materials, which wouldn’t be in their interest. What I am aware of is anecdotal reports of Zastava customers getting cosmetic carrier tail peening (not bolt deformation) from non-fitted aftermarket triggers; particularly the ALG-AKT. In any case, I’m not going to let that stop me. If any of my factory Zastava parts fail because of a trigger swap, I will consider those parts to be defective, not the trigger. Easy enough to throw in a surplus M70 carrier if something is wrong with the factory carrier.
@@Triangle26 You're right, I mispoke, it was peening to the bolt carrier tail. Yes, Zastava USA made a statement on their social media accounts in June of 2023 that caused some controversy in which they stated that installing aftermarket trigger groups would damage their rifles and void the warranty. Upon reading this I myself noticed some slight deformation on my carrier tail, so I replaced the aftermarket trigger group I had in my rifle with the original factory one. Replacing the bolt carrier with a surplus one is a good idea though! I may just do that and keep my aftermarket trigger in there after all.
You make me want an AK. What do you think of repros? (Century etc) I remember you being thrilled to hit 1k and now you have 5k. Hope youre better soon!
Thanks Craig. While in the past American made AK’s were questionable at best, these days they really seem to be an increasingly viable alternative. That said, there are a few time tested options available at the same price point as the cheapest US guns, and for my money I would still strongly perform an import. The $700 Romanian WASR-10 is probably still the best AK available for the money, in my opinion.
That VEPR is sexy! My only AK is an unconverted Russian Saiga I've had for 6 years now. Trying to sell it or find someone reputable in Ohio to do a 103 conversion.
Oh yea, Chinese AK's are awesome, I wish I had some. I think my problem was that anytime I was itching for a new Chinese rifle, there was always another Chinese SKS variant I wanted more.
Any opinion on the latest generation of TWS piccatiny railed dust cover? I have a Chinese M90 5.56 that really deserves a 2-3 power prism sight. Does not have provisions for a side rail....
Triangle, can you point me to one of your videos where I can learn about the triangle 26 factory? I’m getting my first Chinese type 56 sks today that is marked triangle 26.
I’ve got a ton of info on the triangle 26 factory (State Arsenal 296), but it’s spread out over a few videos. A great starting point is my “Ghost” video, which goes into great detail about the origins of production and the history of the factory. That begins at the 4 minute 57 second mark. “Ghost” SKS ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z5oo_pr-4Hs.html I have another couple videos on specific /26\ variants that also include general factory history: "French Tickler" Chinese SKS ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L2Iyt1F3f9A.html “Letter Series” Type 56 Carbine (1959-1960) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6yXiK0S8TBE.html Finally, if you need help determining which year/variant your rifle is, I have an old video which should help with that: How to date your /26\ Chinese SKS (The Correct Way) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EFoKOgLNOsk.html Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
@@Triangle26 also I have to un-bubba it. It has a tapco stock, dust cover with pic rail on it. An extended 30 round mag, no rear sight leaf, and some no name red dot on it. I felt bad for it and picked it up for 500 bones. Wish me luck.
I totally agree with you sometimes we can get better for the money , but i feel like some kind of autism 😂 I feel like ''the hell with it i want this saiga 103 take my money 💸'' It's part of the hobby , a virus you don't want to cure 😂 Wonderful video as Always greeting from France
Nice! I had a 6.5 Grendel Vepr for a little while, but mine gave me nothing but trouble. I absolutely love the concept though - and sometimes wish I had put in more time to make it work.
@@Kalashnikingz47 I was having feeding issues with the factory magazines. The 6.5 Veprs (like any of the “non-converted” Veprs) relies on a feed ramp built into the magazine, rather than a bullet guide build into the receiver. Although the rifle was rock solid (like any other Vepr), I was left with the impression that Molot just didn’t put enough time into developing the geometry of their 6.5 Grendel magazines. I had rounds missing the chamber and getting totally smashed, especially when the mags were fully loaded. All that said, my experiences here are coming from a sample size of one.
I thought the same thing. Having several Mak 90’s in my collection( don’t get me wrong, would rather have type 56) but I just figured and though for sure he was going to have at least 1 if not them all be Chinese lol
Love it. I think it's technically a better rifle than the AK, although there is something to be said for market popularity. There are a lot of great AK's and AK accessories on the market, the 58 market is much smaller. I don't currently own a 58, however it is on my short list to try and acquire for a presentation on this channel.
Purchased an SKS in 93 after getting out of the military, test fired it at purchase, took it home, cleaned it and put it in the gun safe. Cleaned it a few times but never paid much attention to it until I started watching your channel after watching Hickok 45. Question: the SKS has the 6 digit date serial number with a 21 date code. Figure its a 1976 model, but in front of the serial number and date code is a square with a 36 in it. Can anyone tell me what this rifle is? 36 in square 21 0031xx
Yep, what I wouldn't go to go back to 2016 and buy one of everything. I particularly wish I would have gotten a 5.45 with the 23" barrel and built an RPK-74M "clone". The only downside I still see with the folders is that they fold to the left, and I am a big side-rail guy.
Both seem like good options to me. I chose the SAM7 due to its track record. Arsenal Bulgaria has been engaged in the licensed production of Kalashnikov rifles for over 50 years, and the SAM7s are combat proven. WBP is a much younger company, and their products have not had the opportunity to prove themselves in the same way. That said everything I have heard has been positive. I'd own both if I could.
Hey Tri 26 , Hope you're doing well . I haven't been around for awhile, but the last time I made a few comments about how good your SKS videos are and your mobile shooting range. Just want you and your Family to have a Great Christmas , and wish you and yours a HAPPY NEW YEAR . Take care. Bob Moran
AKs were cool when they were 300-400 bucks that didn't explode or self disassemble themselves after 500 rounds! Now with the prices of them they are junk! Unless you just have to scratch that itch and have a 1 trick pony, overpriced, sub par accurate, difficult and expensive to modify they are stupid!
