I can relate so much to everything you‘re saying. I am at art school as well, but I studie graphic design too and I would rather get into animation or like anything where I can draw traditionally. I would consider myself self taught too.

These are great choices! I'd also recommend of any of Superani's Kimjunggi's sketchbook collections! I have these books and they are all well worth purchasing! I haven't heard of the korean packaging book, but i will add that to my wishlist!

Check out your library, they often have classic books about the Renaissance artists and sometimes even other time periods. I do this to get the big artbooks that are too expensive. I borrow them, copy the paintings, drawings, then give them back to the library and borrow a new one.

Electric State is also my favorite Artbook. It's my goto for inspiration, to have the ability to tell stories visually like this, is the dream of a storyteller... Its the closest a single person can get to telling a movie-level story. I LOVE your channle

I got Scott Robertson's how to draw and how to render books, insane amount of information very intuitively arranged, love them. I could only recommend you get a book of Albrecht Dürer's drawings for inspiration.

I would recommend any of the concept art books by Disney! I own tangled, Moana, and brave and they’re immensely inspirational. Getting to see the process and all of the wonderful art that goes into each decision is amazing. There’s also a real mix of styles and subject. (I also enjoyed Hayo Miyazaki’s spirited away art book and Heikala’s art book if you want more concept art books)

The nasa book is supercool! The only artbook art book I own is GRIS. It basically goes over all the art from concept to finish in the game and has very little text. I like it because you can see all of the animation frames for characters, how the architecture developed. It’s a pretty good visual development book if you just want to visually see how they got to the finished product. Though of course I would recommend it more to general illustrators than game artist, since it is more worried about the art than something like game functions, graphic UI and all those things usual industry games have.

I know I'm a little late, but I feel like you would really love a book called Soviet Bus Stops, the foreword is by Johnathan Meades, Damon Murray took the photos (I think). I found it super inspiring architecturally!

It's so funny, I walked into a bookstore 3 days ago just to browse and to see if they had a copy of Orwells 1984 because I recently got interested in reading "the classics". Left with the electric state. I'd never heard of it or the author/artist before. Now, 3 days later, I stumble across your youtube channel and since I liked the first video I saw begin to watch a few of them while working. And there it is again. It's like it's calling out to me or something. Strange haha. Another art book I can wholeheartedly recommend though is Jamie Hewlett, basically a collection of his works and it's great. Mostly comic style but also a few photographs, water color paintings and other stuff. And the dude has such a nice style.

Hey, if you enjoyed 'Made in North Korea', you might be interested in the photography books by Fuel-design . They cover a lot of design and architecture from the post-Soviet countries, pretty much from cityscapes to wrapper design. Love your videos by the way!

A Book you may like, "Cargo in the Blood" by Russell Mills. It's all about the art that went into the Nine Inch Nails album Hesitation Marks. It's one of the most profound art books I've ever read. It's a little expensive though. Beyond the fantastic art (multimedia pieces), the textual content of the book is very philosophical and introspective. Russell Mills gives a very deep insight into his thoughts on art, and ideas such as the beauty of decay.

Also if you want more free art books sign up to artschools newsletters; they send out free art books! I got a ton when trying to decided what art school I wanted to attend and they have a bunch of amazing art in them from their artist!

I went to a book store in fall and saw “made in North Korea” it really stood out because of the pink colour. I couldn’t buy it though and thought I could come back for it but it was all sold out :/

Very good recommendations. Also check out James Gurney's blog and RU-vid channel. A lot of great information, in particular about watercolour and gouache painting. He's masterful.
