I'd love to see aquatic horror, Arctic/blizzard horror, anthologies/short story collections, and forest/outdoor horror in a future video 🖤. Apropos of nothing, but I know you love litfic that has darker elements and I just read a fantastic debut novella that no one is talking about called Bear Season. I highly recommend it if you get a chance to pick it up.

I love the idea of a Frankenstein sub-genre 🤗 definitely adding that rec to my tbr. There’s a book called The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein that I thought was more litfic, but just looked it up again and its horror 🖤🖤🖤 and a sub genre I would like to read more from is ocean/sea/water 🖤 With supernatural I think vampires, witches, magic powers, etc. With paranormal I think ghosts, demons/angels, haunted houses. But idk for sure if that’s the “right” way 🤔 A ya horror I loved is This Is Not a Test by Courtney Summers. It’s in the zombies, apocalyptic, survival area, I’m afraid to reread it bc what if I don’t like it as much now that I’m older
@WickedScorpio
@WickedScorpio 3 месяца назад
Yess dark descent is on my tbr list for that subgenre! I'm definitely going to read more ocean/water horror for the summer, so I'm hoping I have a fave soon 🤞🏻 That is such a good point for supernatural versus paranormal. I always consider vampires, witches, etc. as separate categories since theres so much in each of those, but they probably all would fall under the umbrella of supernatural! But then the show supernatural has ghosts, so I always think of that 😂😂 I have so many books I loved when I was young, but I'm too scared to reread or recommend for the exact same reason lol

This was so fun to watch! It's always interesting to see other people's journeys with horror, where they're coming from, their starting points and all that. I grew up in the eighties, so of course it was a lot of Stephen King and Clive Barker, but it's been incredible to follow the genre as it's expanded and evolved in the past however many years. I refuse to write the number because it's a long time and I don't like to accept that, ha! I think one of my favorite subgenres, or maybe sub-subgenres is horror that revolves around writers or artists, especially creators who go off to create in a remote/isolated location, and weird, creepy stuff ensues. I guess The Shining (also The Dark Half, sort of) would fall squarely into that, and I'd love to read more! A subgenre that I was SO surprised that actually I enjoy is cozy horror (mostly because there's usually romance, which I don't love) and Rachel Harrison's Cackle was SO GOOD.
@WickedScorpio
@WickedScorpio 3 месяца назад
Ooo yes I love when writers/artists are an element in books. I love when there's even bookstores or stuff about books in books! I'm so happy you gave cozy horror a try and loved it!! She has a new book coming out and I can't wait to read it.

I've read almost all of these and you did such an amazing job talking about them! I feel like a broken record recommending Brother by Ania Ahlborn, but it's a slasher that I loved so much and I can't remember if you've tried it yet or not. The ending is fantastic. We Need to Do Something by Max Booth is one I've been hearing about a lot lately for claustrophobic horror but haven't read yet. I'm trying my first Darcy Coates next month! Going with From Below 🤞 Oh and for splatterpunk I'd look into Kristopher Triana and Judith Sonnet and see what speaks to you because both of those authors are hit or miss for me. 🖤

I honestly didn't even realize it was a slasher! I did read We Need to do something. I actually saw the movie the movie first jot realizing it was a book, but the book and movie are literally line by line the same so the book didn't have as much as an impact.
