Might I recommend you read Geisha:A life by Mineko Iwasaki instead and support the woman Golden basically screwed over when he wrote Memoirs. Granted, it's not quite as lyrical, but it's from the source and far more honest.
I bought The Historian when I was about that age but I never read it. Maybe I will grab it the next time I'm at my parents house and actually... read it. Also WHAT UP BURGESS & GREEN. RU-vid THESIS WRITING PARTY PALS. The His Dark Materials books are my forever favorites. I've been in a weird reading mood lately and I think the answer is that I just need to read those again. Gatsby is also permanently dear to my heart. The Warmth of Other Suns is my favorite NF book, though I have grad school good feels for Remix by Lawrence Lessig, Fan Culture by Matt Hills, and Convergence Culture by Henry Jenkins.
You should! It's very unique, which is another reason why I really like it. All of those last titles sounds like right up my ally. Though I will admit, I have a difficult time reading non-fictions (that aren't auto-biographies) for fun.
