#DOAG . Death of a Game is a series dedicated to uncovering the mysteries surrounding the death of a game or company. nerdSlayer defines the term "death" in the context of the show as either... 1. Literally dead. 2. Had a mass exodus of players and never recovered (expectations etc). 3. The company ceased to exist. We follow a timeline of events, to uncover clues concerning why a game or company doesn't do well, and attempt to put it all together at the end for a deduction explaining how or why the game failed based on the evidence gathered.

I've always preferred pure buffing or debuffing classes (Bard, Hexer or what have you). Unfortunately, they've been all but nuked from modern MMOs. The ideas are still there, but chopped up and tossed into the holy trinity classes.

Any kind of mechanical or engineer class, I started loving that style in gw2 with the Engineer, the entire idea of you don’t have magic or insane strength but you make your own weapons and use bombs and stuff was super appealing and I wish more MMOS did that.

I'd like to mention how much fun I had as a hunter in WoW. Not because of their skills or anything, but because of the pet system. I had so much fun capturing rare pets in a time before all the super guides en map trackers. It was such a thrilling experience to encounter a rare pet and capture it before someone would kill it

Anytime a game has. Battlemage or Red Mage class I am there. I love the synergy of being melee and range at the same time while adding other conditions to my characters at any time.

Sigh....I farmed more salt and tears from playing a PvP mesmer in GW than any other class. It was my favorite class of all time. Plus, the female was the most fashionable Barbie of any game. How much grinding I did to get the Norn and Asura elite armors for Clarissa I can't believe!

I've always been a rogue player at heart, but the Ninja in FFXIV recently stole my heart. The Mudra system feels like playing a mini-Invoker from Dota, and I love the mix of melee/ranged abilities it offers with the option of summoning things like lightning strikes or fire tornados. Add to it satisfying animations, great looking gear and usefulness in group play. I'm just having a blast with it, to the point that I'm finding it difficult to check out other jobs

I like classes that break the mold, i am getting a bit tired of the same ol warrior ranger mage classes, it is time to give classes more uniqueness like that bounty hunter class.

Probably my favorite type of class was also from Warhammer Online, the Disciple of Khaine/Warrior Priest mirror match. A healer class that can be built around a very aggressive playstyle where that aggression is rewarded with healing potency. Warhammer's ability to let you target a friendly and a hostile simultaneously was a big part of this.

Whenever playing games, I've always gone with the straight up fighter types, usually sword and board, if only because they have survivability, damage, and a lack of a resource they can run out of (Ammo, Mana, etc) that results in them becoming nearly useless. GW2's warrior, The GW1 Wammo, the Warrior in WoW, Guardian in LOTRO, Trooper in STO, Fighter in D&D, you get the idea.

Paladins from WoW are one of my favorites, literally a warrior of the light that can sprout wings, throw light shields at enemies and even summon an angel to either attack/heal/defend yourself (in more older interations of WoW)

My favorite class is “Keeper” from Anarchy-Online because it was a Jack of all trades class. So many classes are specialists. A Keeper was a dps class who could easily tank or be a backup healer. They had auras which allowed them to go offensive (dps+) offensive v2 (attack+), defensive (dmg reduction+), defensive 2 (evasion+), healer (hp regen+), or cc (snare+). It was the single most representative of my playstyle as a Jack of all trades kind of players.

Every game is different, so which class I gravitate to varies. I've played tanks, healers, rogues, mages, etc. Though, like you, Guild Wars will always have a special place in my heart. In both GW and GW2, it was Mesmer, easily. In both it was always so much fun experimenting with different builds. A large appeal of the GW games is the fact that they allow so much experimentation, and so many builds are perfectly viable.

Blue mage from FF14 (even though it's not a real class) is one of my personal favorites, I like the concept of building your own class and the puzzle aspect it gives to most fights.

Been recently playing necro healer in eso, has such a diverse playstyle with a mixture of healing ,dps and an ultimate that makes you tank and heals you with attacks.

I've never played an unarmed class that genuinely felt amazing to play and properly leaned into the martial artist fantasy. As a current ESO player I'm praying for an unarmed skill line at some point, cause even when the archetype is underwhelming or poorly executed it's always my favourite way to play.

Heavy spellblades are where it's at. I'm still having a hard time finding a replacement for Death Knight in WoW. A mix of heavy passive durability, good defensive cooldowns, on demand lifesteal, and the ability to bury my opponent in Undead, really appeals to me. Dark Knight and Red Mage in FF are pretty cool, but they lack that 'I'm an unstoppable monster' feel to them. Maybe I need to revisit Guild Wars 2, I havent played it since before Greatsword Necro was added, and I did love the Necromancer abilities. Shroud was super fun.

Debuffer every time. Unfortunately MMOs are too afraid to give players real debuffing abilities, skills to control the enemies and debuff them so much that they can't pose a threat. As opposed to buffing up your own team to the point where enemies pose no threat. It always felt so rewarding to control and debuff enemies into the floor, even if I wouldn't have nearly the damage output of a DPS, debuffing felt so good. City of Heroes being the only game ever that actually did control and debuffs really well, entire classes and skillsets designed around various ways to control the flow of a fight and tear down enemy defenses, resistances and strengths.

I shift to different classes in gw 2 depending on my mood but Tempest and Holosmith are my favorites. It's just very fun, self sufficient classes with right amount of team support when necessary. Support Deadeye is a really fun one too. When it's chill time, Renegade it is.
