My favorite classics: The Age of innocence by Edith Warthon, The Portrait of a lady by Henry James, 1984 by Orwell, Lady Chatterley's lover by DH Lawrence, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, The Scarlet Letter by Hawthorne. Hope I'm not messing up the names, haven't read any classic in a long while 😉
My relationship with The Age of Innocence is so wonky lol, at first while I was reading it I hated it and then after I finished it and stopped to think a bit more it felt like that part in Tangled where Rapunzel starts seeing the suns and everything just began to click and click. So now I’ve scheduled a reread of it this winter and it has solidified Edith Wharton as one of my favorite authors.
i love the two orwells you mentioned as well. I've read 4 others among those you've mentioned although i wouldnt say any of them are among my faves. Anna Karenina is kinda intimidating, maybe some day... :-D
It is hard to argue against any of these :). I read most of them. I do have only one disagreement. I think Frankenstein deserves tons of praise (the vision and the message to name two), but writing is not one of them IMO. I think the writing is very amateurish. I still highly recommend the book though. ATTWN is amazing, but it is my 2nd best. My absolute favourite is The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. From your list: ATTWN would be my choice from pure enjoynment angle, but overall, I have to go with 1984.
I love reading classics but it always takes me so long to get through one 😅 1984 and P&P are definitely also my favourites, I think 1984 should be required reading tbh I recommend it very often! And P&P is just my favourite book of all time 🥰 also thanks for reminding me to reread the Great Gatsby! Loved that book but I haven‘t read it in quite a while.
Loved this video :) would love a part 2! I'm currently reading Sense and Sensibility and finding it quite funny and witty in parts but in other parts just boring! Is it just me?! It's my first time reading Jane Austen since school! 🙈
Hey Alice, such beautiful editions of these classics! 🌹Of your choices, I'd go with Gatsby ♥️; I seem to be a sucker for magical realism ( ish) tales so Don Quixote and 100 Years of Solitude. I read The Small House at Allington ( Anthony Trollope) recently and adored it. It's part of his Barchester world, set partly in a small rural town , partly in London and follows the lives and loves of two sisters...and suitors of various quality! Trollope has a great eye for the details of characters often caught up in political circumstances. Highly recommended 😊
Thank you so much! :D I really need to read 100 Years of Solitude, I've had it on my shelves for ages. The Small House at Allington sounds great too! :D
Have you ever read any book by Fredrik Backman? He is a Swedish author and his books are amazing! I think you'd love A man called ove (en man som heter Ove) or Beartown (Björnstad)!
@@kaleed.8260 It's spelled as Björn and you're both correct! Björn does mean bear in Swedish, but just like you mentioned, it could also be a male name
I've read most of your choices. I didn't like The Great Gatsby & I read Jane Eyre about 30 yrs ago & loved it. But I reread it last year & didn't like it. No idea why. I'm currently reading War & Peace. I think this will be my new favourite classic.
