You make me want to try dahlias - I’ve always been leery since they seem like more work but I may give them a try. And you know the first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem!😂 Super excited to see the new place - good luck with the move!
I keep meaning to ask - do you make your own potting soil mix for your containers? I feel like I spend soooo much money every year for potting soil. Wondering if it would be worth it to make my own.
Last year I bought some compost, and Kellog organic raised bed mix from Home Depot and started mixing 50/50, but the end I just used the Home Depot mix in the bags. This year I bought a truckload of local garden soil that has compost already mixed in (not too soil) but in my pots I’ve been mixing with perlite for drainage. In my raised beds it’s just the mix. I think the best mix if I couldn’t buy it premixed relatively inexpensively would be 1/3 topsoil 1/3 compost with a 1/4 perlite or vermiculite to loosen it up.
@@LisaMonique thank you - that seems like an easy mix. I’ve looked at some “recipes” and some of them seemed so involved. We did some raised beds a couple of years ago and should have bought a truckload of dirt. It seemed like we’d never get them full using bagged soil. I think I might try it next year for my containers - even if I could save maybe 30% then that would be more money I’d have for plants 🪴. I’m also very interested in starting seeds indoors next year. The soil blocker looks like it would be a good investment if I go that route.
