My favorite sequencer is the WMD Metron. It's expensive and takes up a lot of space, and you even need the Voltera expansions to do CV. But it's very powerful and straight forward to use. WMD put a lot of effort into their tutorial videos, which also helps a lot.

I love intuitive hands-on sequencers with enough hp (horsepower) per hp, like the NE Mimetic Digitalis that is very versatile. But sometimes it’s good to have an expert that takes up more space. For melodies and for its musical and groove capabilities I love the new Melodicer by Vermona. And there’s my DIY Step Fader by Tesseract Modular, a 16-step or dual 8-step sequencer with a Metropolis-inspired ratcheting mode and 2 independently usable slew circuits. Erica Synths Drum Sequencer. Comes with a couple of LFO’s, 1 dedicated bass track, 16 triggers/12 accents, plenty of steps, and all in a simple XOX style sequencing. I’m still new to eurorack/modular and found it’s simplicity was key for me. I had a WMD Metron, but found it was more intricate than what I was ready for. Great video and keep on keeping on 👍👍

As humans we are fascinated by patterns, I enjoyed the video just listening to the sounds evolving. I'm new to modular so I'm relying on my Korg SQ-1 and also the Octatrack for sequencing. I'm closing in on the Qu-bit Bloom as have always been fascinated with fractals.

I looked at the Varigate 4+, but really only wanted a trigger sequencer, so I went with the Bastl Knit rider. I was pretty tuned off by having to constantly re-set the slider values to reflect the current state. It's really slick package tho, love the probability and repeat too. Thanks for always putting up great vids.

I just got a Verigate 4+ and was thinking if I paired it with the Voltage Block, I could use the Varigate to control gate on 4 sequences while Voltage Block provided pitch CV, and I'd STILL have 4 channels on the Block to use as CV modulation sources. That's awesome! Looks like my wallet is about to shrink...

I only have my NiftyCase for Eurorack currently, so I'm limited on space. (Will be filling it in a few days when my Maths arrives). So for now, sequencing is going to be my SQ-1, Keystep Pro and Ableton. Dig the vibe of this, though, just don't think it makes sense to give up the space for it, given my other options.

I’m currently using Hermod as an “off the grid” midi looper style sequencer for free form ambient stuff of which it excels. Squarp added this function a few updates in so you might not have had the chance to try it when you had one....

And, love to understand more what you use the voltage block for in this setup? In your opinion, is the Voltage Block necessary to pull the best out of the Varigates? Thanks so much!

Thanks, the v8+ is cool for drums, which it had more cvs and was labeled better, I still prefer the v4+. And voltage block is great, I need to make a video about it.. soon!

I tried so many sequencers and now Hermod is still in my case but it kind of stops or slows my creative flow. I often keep it unpatched and use smaller one trick ponies like the Baby8 for melodies, the SWT16+ to trigger things and simple LFOs or TempsUtile and Maths to modulate things. But if I look at this, I think about using just these two modules for all my needs. Looks amazing!

I have the Varigate 4+ and it can do a lot in a compact format, but it can also be confusing because the 8 sliders are constantly out of touch with reality. Whenever you switch between the tracks and the various modes within a track, the sliders do not indicate the values for that track and mode, and you have to sort of guess/remember where you are. It gets better with practise but this will never be a truly hands-on module for me.

Nice video! Can you link the cv and gate so that the cv doesn't change until the next gate occurs? (so that you don't get those changes in pitch between gates) … I think this is possible on the V8+

I really have some super bad experience with this module, i try to clock it with an external clock source and it just went total nuts and then it just stop to trigg gates i tryed so long to figuer everything out but just went total angry Quit even trying 😔

How do you know the root note of the key you are in? is that always set by the VCO tune dial? (in other words; How do I know I'm in C scale?)

Correct, the root note will be whatever the tune knob is set to on each module.

What did you think of Marbles when you had it in terms of random generation? I am on the fence about selling it for the varigate, I want something more intuitive, remembering all the button combinations can really be a pain. :/ and amazing video. Always so helpful and inspiring :)

Thanks! I didn't like it too much, like you said, to many button combinations and not as clearly labeled as the v4+. Also the v4+ is a lot smaller, so that's another plus :)

I hate my varigate when it comes to dialing precise notes. It’s fun only for random pitches.

I agree. I love my Varigate 4+ but if I want a major scale sequence (really basic from C to C) it's quite difficult to dial in the precise notes because the sliders cover a few octaves and the space between each isn't as large as you think visually. However, it is great fun to play with and for more precise control the Voltage Block is king as she said :)

Yeah, but no swing is a deal breaker for me. And I'm assuming that it doesn't accept a swung clock input, right? What's with Malekko? The Manther has a great sequencer, except no swing there either. "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing" ;)
