I am a Glenn follower for some years and I heard about Jeremy in one of his videos. Nice to see both of them together! Please do more in the future! Ty for this exercise, I would love to see an application in a song context! 🙏💚

Yes, please show us how this can be applied to a song!
@JeremySiskind

I’m not sure this is directly applicable to a tune (although there are lots of creative implications). I would think of it more like Hanon as a means to get to know keys, harmony, and voicings better.

Clare Fisher was an underappreciated harmonic genius IMO. His block chord(ish) solo on the original recording of “Morning” is still mind-blowing. I heard him play many times at the Cal State Northridge student union pub in the mid-80s. He played a version of “The Entertainer” as a set closer that was undescribable.

Hey Jeremy, when are you gonna do a video dedicated to left-hand impressionistic arpeggio style ballad playing? You know, the kind of Debussy Ravel rubato Erroll Garner crossover up and down ad libbed left hand type arpeggios. They are rubato in the sense that they are not a strictly patterned left hand arpeggio and therefore are guided by the phrasing of the melody itself and fit the melodic moment and not “in time”.

When I have a better left hand, maybe? 😂

Fisher’s rare videos are very impressive. I have a fingering question to the exercise.( I assume Glenn practices the other Fisher progressions called new distributions too.) The fingering is very poor in my sheet version and it seems that the composer is using only 5/1 and 4/2 but NEVER 3/2. Especially I the new distribution version is difficult, ver it says 5/2 and 4/1 and never 3/1. Is this true or I misunderstood something? Granted, it is very useful for the fourth finger but I am not sure this would be the only way…
@ivannagy8911
@ivannagy8911 2 года назад
I realized both of you mention the fingering problem. Of course it is possible to do it either way but it is very different if you “force” to practice it only with the fourth. By the way I have never felt this good effect after a pattern. This is really an amazing way and the possibilities are endless.

Ivan! You know so much more about this than I do! I'm not sure if Glenn knows the answer, but I'll ping him and see if he can help. I guess he learned it from Jason/Julian who learned it from Danilo who learned it from the Clare book, so we're all getting it third hand.
@ivannagy8911

@@JeremySiskind Actually I have a little special problem with my pinky. It is extra short. That’s the reason why I more often spend time with fingering questions. I have been doing the same mistake for 40 years as a try to compensate this problem with the other fingers. Recently I “discovered” that all the fingering problems come from this false method. I should use it as normal as possible. And guess what, Many of the so called problems begin to disappear.
