The guy who did the last hit was a cadet, meaning he was 14-16 -year old. I think that makes the hit even more impressive

can some one explain who won each point and what constitutes a hit
@OlympicFoil
@OlympicFoil 2 года назад
Sure, the thing to look for is for the red or green light on the scoring machine to turn on. If the light on the right side turns on for example, it means the person on the right landed a successful hit on the other person. 🙂 So whichever side the light turns on, means that side got the point

Hmmm, I wonder how was it scored before a circuit system was introduced. Did they maybe coat the ends of the foils in colour chalk, hence the white outfits?
@OlympicFoil
@OlympicFoil 2 года назад
@@macklinillustration correct, they're white to show the dye they used to use. You would then remove the dye later with vinegar, apparently the smell would get pretty terrible

I love this sport. Most people don't know the origins of fencing but it is easy to see once it is explained. Way back in history, the 1970s, two teenager had taken the fiberglass rods off their bikes, it had been very popular to attach flags to children's bicycles, using a very long rod of thin fiberglass. If you detached the flags from the bicycle and stripped the flag off the rod, it became a semi bendy whip like weapon. The two teenager found that it was very entertaining to try and whip each other with the fiberglass rods, well, until each of them actually made contact and found out that getting whipped by a long piece of fiberglass rod really hurts! That sudden but short lasting whip fight, so long ago, eventually evolved into the sport that fencing is today. Two combatants whipping at each other with now metal rods, but never actually making real contact because like those two boys in the alley, with their fiberglass rods, they are a bunch of pussies playing at combat, while not resembling actual combat in any way.

Fencing actually comes from pre historic ages. Two men would face off, with long and pointy objects in hand. Of course, women couldn’t participate because they didn’t have any. Thus, in the name of gender equality, the sword was invented. That’s why the geeks and row men’s did the first olympics naked or something like that
@sevilnatas
@sevilnatas 2 года назад
@@ariharris9221 I think you are mistaken. Obviously you did not read my comment that accurate described the origins of fencing and why it has devolved into more of a dancing competition than a sport. You seem to be attempting to deceive RU-vid users in what I can only imagine is a ploy by "Big Fencing" to boost the prestige of an obviously failing pass time. Please Ari, be a better person.
