You can't spell Credo without REEEEEEEEEE
On paper, the Trijicon Credo 1-4 is the perfect LPVO, at least for me. I don't care about illumination, I just want a lightweight scope with a good reticle, and the Credo's segmented circle 55 gr BDC reticle delivers. But there's something seriously wrong with this thing.

It's very difficult to demonstrate or describe the optical issue with this scope, but everyone who looked through the Credo noticed it immediately. The best way I can describe it is that the image shifts or smears if your eye isn't in exactly the right spot behind the scope. The larger problem is that the exact right spot is slightly off center, far enough that it introduces scope shadow on one side.

Longtime viewer and I hate to say it but I think Hop has finally done it. He's done well enough that he's changed tax brackets: he called the Trij Credo affordable. I recall a day when his idea of expensive and mine were in sync. I know the LPVO isn't super expensive as far these go but in my life, a grand for 1 to 4 anything isn't affordable. But I still love him and will keep watching.

This is my problem with spending big money on more expensive LPVOs. I prefer LPVOs because I'm not Sammy Sniper, but a 1-6 or 1-8 for my hunting, tac shooting, etc. needs. I want humanly achievable eye relief, a solid reticle, and glass that isn't garbage. Hell, I'd even punt on the reticle a bit if I can figure out my own holds and dope with loads.

Trijicon TR25 1-6x Accupoint. As basic as they come while meeting the things you are looking for, just run it with a simple point blank zero and be done. Sure, it’s not the latest and greatest, but it does pretty damn good for rapid target acquisition and then getting rounds on said target. Not bad for something that was originally designed as a hunting scope 12+ years ago and is still in use when you don’t need a BDC (though there are models with MilDots and MOA Dots). 👍🏻

Fantastic points you brought up. This is the Exact performance I got from thr Accupower 1-4 many years ago. A fantasticly built scope, but the image quality sucked balls. If your wondering about a 1-4 accupower? It's pretty similar from my experience as well. As stated the HX 1-6 is the dominant lpvo in Triji'a line up. Followed of course by the 1-8 in ffp. But that's 10oz heavier then this. So unless you want a 1-8 mpvo, your boned. Thanks for the shout out!
@p47plane

Have you noticed these issues are more common among "straight tube" scopes? It's kind of ridiculous to me that the meta LPVO design these days has an objective lens significantly smaller than an ACOG's. Industry seems to be moving towards 35mm body diameters, which should bump up the objective lens to about 32mm. Buuuut, why not just keep making 30mm tubes with an actual objective bell? Does it have some kind of negative impact on 1x quality?

Have the 1-6 Credo w/ BDC Segmented Circle and it is the best LPVO I have every ran hands down. It is incredible up close as the segmented circle operates like an eotech. The bottom of the segmented circle corresponds to height over bore up close on my 1.93 mount. The 1/4 MOA sub tensions is an awesome touch to a high quality optic. I have not had the issues on zoom with my 1-6 so hopefully this is a sample size one. It is an incredible optic and I would never purchase anything else

I have a VCOG 1-8 on my DD5v3. Besides being rather hefty at 30 oz (with integrated mount), it's fantastic. And my favorite part is that instead of a solid cross for an aiming point, the center is hollowed out with a tiny dot at the center. After some (probably incorrect) math I figure the center dot is about .4 MOA. So the cross looks like a 1.5 MOA dot at 1x, and at 8x it's the smallest aiming point I've seen besides a chevron. And you can see your target through the spaces between the dot and the lines of the cross. I agonized for months before deciding on an expensive optic on my expensive gun, basically because of reticles. Glad I got this one. Although I think I'd still rather have an ACSS with a chevron and horseshoe.

The kind of issue you're describing almost sounds like what I see sometimes when I look through my Monstrum 1-4x20 on my 10/22. I'm not sure if it's the ocular focus getting knocked around or what but that is typically what I find myself playing with between magnifications when I am squirrel hunting with it. It works. But the issues have had me considering swapping it out for something even slightly better.

I would urge you to revisit that vortex mil reticle in the PST and Razor 1-6. Once you plug the numbers into Strelok or another ballistic app you'll see how well those hashmarks line up. The posts are thick enough where it works well without the illumination, but once you have the option of that aimpoint bright dot you'll never go back. I used to think just like you on the reticle and got fed up with the mid range lpvos. I bit the bullet and cried while buying the Razor 1-6, and now I get it and no longer shop for LPVOs as that is the one.
@Ilost11
@Ilost11 2 года назад
Yeah SFP 1x - 6x LPVOs are really underrated. Optically very good, phenomenal 1x, lightweight, often great FOV, "fast", great illumination and good value. The Delta Stryker 1x - 6x or Razor HD 1x -6x are really hard to beat when it comes design compromises and actual use for the standard AR. They beat out scopes 2x - 3x their price in many of the aforementioned qualities.

You pretty much typed my exact thoughts . I wasn’t too impressed with my gen 2 razor at first(besides the glass quality and FOV which is amazing), but after using strelok to plug in the numbers and using the hash marks I don’t see myself buying another lpvo. Best in class in my opinion .

I've been VERY happy with my 1-4 Accupower but I also bought it right as Trijicon was trying to dump the Accupowers right before the announcement of the Credo so I only paid $450 for mine. It's the clearest image out of any scope I've ever personally seen but there are plenty of people that have used optics I will never afford or experience that would say these aren't that great compared to something in the $1,500+ price range

Same here. I got mine back in 2016 or so soon after they came out. I'll agree like what C_DOES said that on 4x it is a bit fuzzy near the edge, but I've found that it's significantly or completely mitigated by shoving your eye closer to the optic at the short end of the eye relief. Best 1-4 available today IMO. I've heard about MANY returns of the P4XI, some even several times in a row. Aaron from Sage Dynamics threw the accupower from a second story deck and it held zero, that sells it enough for me.

I am curious to see your opinion on them, considering I have the 5x prism that they have, and I honestly quite enjoy it. I have the 1-6 credo with the SFP red BDC. It’s bright and has good glass quality. It’s not as good as my VCOG 1-8 for clarity but good. I’m not certain why they have problems with the 1-4 credo. The old Accupoints have good glass quality and the 1-6 Accupoint and credo are good and the scope body disappears. PSA had the 1-6 red BDC for $750 it was a good deal.

I have the AccuPoint 1-4 and I really like its just the German post reticle with the green triangle so no BDC but for what I use it for it’s perfect. It’s like having a variable power ACOG with an awesome eyebox and very nice glass. I love it.

You have to check out the Swampfox 1-10 Arrowhead. This is one of the best LPVO's for the money. The glass is really clear, no color shift, no fringing, the entire reticle lights up, the BDC is really nice, it is daylight bright if you want that, it is just amazing.

That optical issue is so strange. I have been LPVO shopping and put hands on and used quite a few (Vudu 1-6, PSTII 1-6, Leupold Patrol 1-6x, to name a few), and the Credo 1-6. I’ll have to look through another one but I didn’t notice the same image smear occurring and I was looking through four competing LPVOs side by side

I have one of those cheap AR-223 LPVO's, and a tijicon Credo 1-6. But weirdly enough, my favorite by far is my Primary Arms SLx 1-6. I picked it up for $250 on sale with a Mil discount, and it freakin rocks. I bought it to just put on an SKS I rebuilt from an estate sale to make a clone of a Yugo 59/66, but now it lives permanently on my 14.5 AR. I am more of a fixed magnification extremist, but I like the SLx quite a lot.

I have the Credo HX264. My image quality is just fine! Only the edges at 1x power have a slight slight fishbowl effect. Also I have the SINGLE RED as you have covered. Just get a VCOG. My best friend asked me to zero his VCOG with the MIL christmas tree reticle 1-8 and I actually used the shit out of it. It is pretty good. Not quite as good as my ATACR 1-8, Swarovski Z8i 1-8 or MK8 1-8 but good bang for the buck. Which brings me to my next portion. I just looked through a primary arms SLX FFP 1-6 with their ACSS 556 earlier today and was super impressed with it. While I am a snob when it comes to anything and everything I buy from cars to clothes, guns, etc. I really liked that scope. For like 400 bones I was blown away. While the reticle wasnt “burn your retina out” the way most oper8ors here on youtube like, it was ok. Honestly has me thinking about buying a PLX, because if the silver SLX line was that good, the platinum PLX line must be epic value. Thanks for the review bro.

I have an Accupower 1-4 and mine does not look like that at all at 4x... However, mine is the HX reticle, because I put it on a 14.5 carbine that I pushed into competition. The simple MOA crosshair reticle is perfect for the distances I shoot it in. For some reason, I think it's something to do with the reticle itself and how it's manufactured. This is always the Accupower/Credo version that I see people online shit on.

I own a accupoint tr-24. At first I really liked it and I still do. The simple triangle brings my eye to it quickly. With that being said I do feel that it absolutely doesn’t give me as much information. It’s literally a triangle and two posts. With that being said the longest distance I shoot is 200 yards because that’s the farthest range out here. And it’s fine for that distance.

I still feel the Acog with top mounted red dot is still the best route for most uses of a rifle. Use a Kram spacer to get the optic closer to your eyeball and the eyebox problems pretty much dissapear and it makes the top red dot even a bit higher to be useful with a PVS 14. But yeah, I've held some trijicon LPVO's in my LGS and looked through them and the glass quality compared to the Acog just isn't there for some reason. Even on the 6x and 8x models. That and the MRO flat out sucks ass. Trijicon should really focus more on getting their Acog line streamlined with more RMR included bundles and stop farting around with things they aren't good at. The ACOG isn't perfect and I feel like all the R&D they've spent on other kinds of optics is just wasted energy they should have spent on improving a dated design.

Been using an Athlon Ares ETR 1-10 on my short barreled 6.5 Grendel. Works great out to 1000 yards and has a very functional reticle with an elevation turret that is actually meant to be dialed when going to serious distances. However it weighs a ton and the zero stop appears to be non-functional, at least in my hands. Contacted Athlon and their instructions were not helpful...I need to bug them again because not being able to use the zero stop is super irritating, especially considering that its not a cheap scope.

This is interesting because I have a credo 3-9x40 and it's crisp throughout, and has the crises image clarity at 9x. That has to be one on the nicest low power traditional scopes I've seen in a 3x9 range. Going to that from a viper was a big upgrade in my opinion, and if you disagree you're wrong.
