Here’s an idea Austin. Maybe you could make a Top list of directors who’ve only made one film so far and you’d be excited to see what they do next? For me people like Boots Riley or the Blindspotting guy or Olivia Wilde come to mind.

My Top 10 Favourite Modern Directors (I ranked them a little different than you - I factored in 90s, 00s, and 10s): Honorable Mentions: James Cameron (I didn't put him in because he's only done Avatar recently, even that was 10 years ago, so I didn't seem right to count him as modern); The Russo Brothers - I'd like to see what they can do with a movie outside of the superhero genre because I think they're very talented. Although they don't have a very diverse filmography, they've directed my 4 favourite MCU movies, so they're worth an honorable mention. Damien Chazelle - Whiplash is my favourite movie of all time, but I merely liked his other 2, he's close to making my list but he's not there yet; Paul Thomas Anderson- all his films are extremely well made, but there a little slow paced for me and i don't tend to rewatch his films often; Bong Joon-Ho - I just haven't seen enough of his films yet to put him on my list (I've only seen Snowpiercer, Okja, and Parasite) but he's undeniably very talented and I'd like to see more. 1. Christopher Nolan - I know there is a backlash from some who think he's overrated but I disagree. He deserves all the praise he gets, not only are his films extremely entertaining blockbusters, they're also beautifully shot and extremely well written. He always tackles difficult subjects in unique and thought-provoking ways and I always look forward to what hes doing next (Tenet is easily my most anticipated movie of 2020). Inception and The Dark Knight are both in my top 5 favourite movie ever and Memento is in my top 10. I'm also a big fan of The Prestige, Batman Begins, and Interstellar and enjoyed The Dsrk Knight Rises and Following (I haven't seen Insomnia yet). 2. David Fincher - he's very close to the top spot for me, Se7en is in my top 5 favourite movies ever, and Fight Club, Zodiac, and The Social Network are all in my top 25. All his films are great imo (I have t seen benjamin Button yet), but I like Nolan just a little bit more. 3. Quentin Tarantino - 3 of his movies are in my top 10 all time favourites (Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Basterds, Reservoir Dogs) and I've enjoyed all of his films. Ultimately, I just think the two above him are a little more consistent (I've liked all Tarantino movies but there are a couple that aren't as good as the others). 4. Edgar Wright - all 5 of his films are incredible, they're all in my top 100 favourites of all time, with the entries Cornetto trilogy in my top 40. I'm so excited for Last Night in Soho and I think there's a strong possibility he moves up my list in the future. 5. The Coen Brothers - The Big Lebowski, Fargo, and Inside Llewyn Davis are all in my top 50 favourite films of all time and No Country for Old Men is in my top 100. They'd be higher if I've seen more of there films probably, but I've only seen those 4. 6. Taika Waititti - I love dry humor, and no director does it better than Taika. I'm so glad he directed Thor Ragnarok because it introduced me to him, and I've loved him ever since. What We Do in the Shadows is my Favourite of his films, but I've loved all 4 of his films I've seen (Hunt For the Wilderpeople and JoJo Rabbit are the other 2). 7. Denis Villaneuve - I haven't seen Blade Runner 2049 yet so he could easily move up for me of I love that film, regardless I think he's one of the most talented and underrated directors working today. 8. Spielberg (some of his best work was pre-90s but even still I'm a huge fan of Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me if You Can, and Jurassic Park - I haven't seen Schindlers List yet so that could move him up the list when I do). 9. Martin Scorsese - If I were making a list of the all time greatest directors, he'd probably be number 1, because he's made so many phenomenal films. Personally, I don't love him as much as most seem to (some of his films are a little too slow paced and drawn out for me), nonetheless he's a great director and deserves a spot on this list. 10. Martin McDonaugh - very underrated director imo. He consistently mixes two of my favourite genres (dark comedy and thrillers), and he's 3/3 in his films I've seen (Three Billboards, In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths).

OH MY GOD!!! you could not be more right about this LIST!!!1 I could not agree with you more, specially with Ari Aster. Even though he's made only 2 movies ,but I think those were the best horror movies after the 2000's. I'm only 19 so I grew up with Christopher Nolan movies and I always had him my top director of all time and the influence he made to all of the other directors and also on me is huge.Inception and memento were my favorite of his work. Denis was my 2nd favorite director with arrival and prisoners in my top 15 movies of all time. I respect all the other directors and love there work but I find myself resonating to those two. After hearing your argument about putting Denis above Christopher, I began thinking about my ranking but then I realized that there is no movie for Chris I disliked or even liked. they are between love and legendary masterpieces. unlike Denis's movie enemy which I like but didn't love ( his other movies are also between love and legendary masterpieces), so maybe that's why I had Chris above Denis. All of the other directors are great and deserved there places in the list. Great work!!! keep it up and please do more videos like this.

I picked my all time favourites with no regard to era. Also, I put my favourite movie from each director in ()s. In the case of my number 3, I put 2 different movies, since the 1st is the one I think is the best and 2nd is my personal favourite. 10. Matthew Vaughn (Stardust) 9. David Fincher (Fight Club) 8. Woody Allen (The Purple Rose of Cairo) 7. Guillermo Del Toro (Pacific Rim) 6. Brad Bird (The Incredibles) 5. Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke) 4. Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas) 3. Stephen Spielberg (Schindler's List/A.I.: Artificial Intelligence) 2. Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction) Special HM (would make 7# if I didn't feel it's a little bit of a cheat): "The Pixar directors": John Lasseter (Toy Story 2), Pete Docter (Inside Out), Andrew Stanton (Wall E), Lee Unkrich (Coco), Etc. (I decided to count them all together because Pixar productions seem to be run in a "hive-mind" process, with the exception of Brad Bird's movies which seem more driven by him). HMs (descending order): Ridley Scott (The Last Duel), Ron Clements & John Musker (Hercules), Alfred Hitchcock (Psycho), Robet Zemeckis (Forrest Gump), Stanley Kubrick (Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb), Tim Burton (Ed Wood), Clint Eastwood (Unforgiven), Paul Greengrass (United 93), Jason Reitman (Juno), Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) 1. Christopher Nolan (Inception)
