Great vid. I've been rocking the Commonplace notebook for two decades now and it's great; never going back. I have many linear feet of notebooks. My conclusion is that it doesn't really matter what notetaking method you use as long as you have a method and use it. I do long notes for readings and information gathering, and modified Cornell or sketchnotes (or both) when I'm in a meeting or in a learning environment. Been doing that forever. They all serve me well for their purpose. Tagging the information is the most important part, not how the notes are taken. You need a system for information retreaval. I index, flag, and colour-code my notes, and when the information is no longer needed, I take the flags out of the notebook and shelve it😊.

Hi Mlle_Bleue. Thank you for the kind feedback and for sharing. I've never heard of commonplace notebooks and now it's opened up a world of exploration - Thank you! Agreed on indexing and tagging. It's a continuous improvement project for me. Take care and have a wonderful day!

Great explanation and demonstration. I was always afraid of the Oasis grid lining because it looks like too much, I'll have to give it a try now. Thanks!

now I want that notebook. I use a dot grid notebook. it looks like a blank paper from far, but it's really useful. the same methods of note taking and sectioning can be used in my notebook. I use it as planner/taking notes/sketch book.

I have a special notebook I bought for note taking but it isn’t fountain pen friendly. Its just nicer than the legal pad they provide me at work. Its a spiral notebook with a hard cover 8 1/2 x 11 1/2 sheets. I don’t remember the brand but I got several on clearance at Walmart. I rarely use fountain pens at work, but once in a while I will, even if it’s on a personal pad I bring from home just to jot down notes. Even then, the paper isn’t fancy, it just takes fountain pens better (in my opinion). For example, the $0.97USD Pen n Gear spiral 4x6 notebook from Walmart. What I spend a lot of my own money on at work are my gel pens. I write a lot at work (clerical work). Right now I use the uni gel one p pen and/or the dr.grip gel pen. Love those for work! They make it so my hand doesn’t cramp up! So, I’m willing to spend my own money on them for sure. As a work planner I use the happy planner and I love it since I can pull out sheets and rearrange if necessary. That I also purchase myself. Plus it’s easy to get any accessories if needed here at my local Hobby Lobby, Joannas, or Michaels. 😊 I really allowed myself this year to spend $ at work on supplies so long as it was (in my mind) “reasonable” and made my job easier, more comfortable, or made me happy 🙂.

Great tips here...going back to a more office-like setting after being remote and looking forward to using my notebooks and pens in this way! I recently bought a Hobonichi A5 Cousin because I expected my weeks to get busier (I'm a professor going back to on-campus classes) and I use the daily pages as my meeting/reading/student notes---but I find the indexing a little tricky! Have a great weekend!

Hi Carol, Thanks for sharing. Professor of what if I may ask? I've been hearing so much about the Hobonichi (none available in my immediate vicinity). I'll have to check these out. Warm wishes!

@@StationeryAt4 I teach Communication Studies at a community college in northern Virginia. I love my job and use my planning tools for lectures, notes and just about everything work-related. I do hope you can at least get your hands on a Hobonichi and see what you think about the paper, size and flexibility of that system! Cheers!

That sounds like a lovely job. You're situated in the backyard of Goulet pens right (broadly speaking of course). Do you grab your stationery from them? One of these days on the hobonichi:) have a great day

Ever consider a Traveler’s Notebook for work? I guess it would be tough to create those columns with a narrower notebook like the TN. I’m currently using the Smythson Soho notebook. The thinness of their pages (that incredibly do not allow for ghosting or bleed through of fountain pen ink), the feel of the leather, and the overall size is great. I’ve been thinking of moving to the larger (Portobello) size.

Hi alsakali5753. In fact I have considered and for the very reason of too narrow a notebook - it didn't quite work out for me. The A5 seems to be the perfect size for my office needs and the type of work I do. The Smythson Soho's are gorgeous (and very much outside of my budget). I'm envious. Thanks for stopping by and sharing. Warm wishes and have a wonderful day!

I think Muji may carry ‘high quality’ paper notebooks that feature a lined/dot grid combination

Hi Sarvanm826. Thank you for your kind feedback. It's Pilot Metropolitan with a medium nib in black. I've got it inked with Waterman Mysterious Blue. Hope that helps. Take care and have a wonderful day!

@@StationeryAt4 thanks for the reply, I like to ask one more thing, recently I bought Kaweco brass after inspired by one of your video. It’s fine nib, is it mini piston converter is worth to buy? Coz many said there is issues in d ink flow.
@anicame2
@anicame2 Год назад
@@sarvanm826 i prefer refilling the disposable ink cartridges. I have the same pen….but I do have the converter as well. I have had no issues with the ink flow either way but honestly I’ve only refilled the converter twice.
@StationeryAt4
@StationeryAt4 Год назад
Hi Sarvan, personally I don't use the converter with the kawecos. I like refilling the link cartridges with my own ink choice. I haven't heard about and ink flow issues from the converter from those who own it. Hope that helps Cheers

I take VERY messy motes on a simple Rhodia A4 graph notepad, always with a simple ballpoint pen.. Maybe I should make an effort to look more elegant :D (Psychiatrist)
