Today we go over what are currently my favorite planters and pots! I focus in on the plants here on my channel and don't talk much about the container, but I do get asked frequently about my pots and where I get them. Of course, I'm buying most of these in store but I will find somewhere online you can buy my picks as well! Thanks for watching.

Another suggestion for those looking for unique pots: if you live close to a college, look into their art and ceramics department. Sometimes students will make items specifically to sell to fund different projects. I've bought a bunch of cute little pots and bowls from students and I felt good knowing my money was going straight to them!

Some of my favourite pots are the worn, old terracottas! The stains, white patches and colour variation is so beautiful and interesting! I just think the aged look just makes a gorgeous, rustic vibe.

I live right down the road from Bruning Pottery - the actual potter and his shop in Snohomish, WA. He's a nice guy and his shop is wonderful.

I've recently gotten into bidding on vintage planters on Ebay. And finding them in local thrifts shops around town has always been my favorite thing. I have all kinds of vintage pots! I love them. They add such a cool vibe. =)

I always drill a hole in them with a diamond drill bit. bought one specific for that purpose.

love Bergs! Very costly pots but very durable and looks beautiful. I've had one fall (multiple times) from my table onto my wood floors, fully expecting it to shatter and its standing the test of time.

Hi Nick! I was so excited when I saw the title of this video! I've always admired, and commented on, your pots and really appreciate you going to the trouble to add the links for us! I went straight away to the Etsy link for Hirt's and placed an order for 10 total each of the 4" Basalt planters and 3.5" saucers and 6 total of the 5" Granite clay pots with saucers. I'm so excited to receive them. I plan on using the Basalt planters and saucers for some Hoyas I recently received and some I already have. Thank you so much for this video! I just got some Bergs Pots. I didn't know they were such a "thing", but now I love them even more! -And I don't know why, but its always fun when Danish design gets a shout out.. Maybe because our country is the size of a stamp! I just recently subscribed, and I am already a fan!! THANK YOU!!

As you said, a draining layer of pebbles inside a hole-less pot is useless, but a cache-pot will do better with pebbles. You can put the inner pot over the pebbles, to keep the inner pot above the water. A glazed cache pot will not allow the water to wick and wet the furniture it rests on. Just don't forget to empty the cache pot after each watering. The cache pot is more practical and more aestetic than a tray. It prevents spillage as well.

Love all the porous pots! I’ve been searching for dark porous instead of the ugly orange. That dark basalt looks amazing! I am also currently obsessed with Bergs which is why I clicked on this video in the first place!

Awesome! Thanks! 🙏 👏 I’ll definitely have to remember the tip about the glazed planters at local shops. I’ve got a caladium cutting that’ll need a good pot should it take root! Another tip: check your local festivals to see if any area ceramics people carry planters. I discovered an absolutely beautiful one at a festival last year that I plan to put a violet in. Best!

I truly like your video showcasing your favorite planters. I recently purchased a planter made of unglazed Georgia red clay from a local plant shop. I only wish I'd bought two! It's not a typical Terracotta planter. Amazing quality.

I have looked everywhere in my city for basalt clay pots, I asked my local independent nursery to get them. fingers crossed...Hirts sells them and I have bought a few but the shipping is more than the pots. I have admired your Berg's pots for awhile, so happy I know where to find them. I only use un-glazed pots now and its nice to have different shapes and styles. As always, thank you for such a lovely video.

I love this video! Thank you! I've slowed down my plant buying for the winter so I'm concentrating on pots. No one ever talks about their pots! Hirts sells nice pots too, and they have the Basalt pots in a group pack. I think it's like 3 or 4 for 9.99. Maybe cheaper. No one seems to like buying from them but I get great deals on pots from them. Great video as always! EDIT: Ok, I just clicked on the links and saw the Hirts pots! Lol! I like to order from Hirts.com because they always have coupons. The current one is "106years" for 15% of your order.

@@suzannegleed5602 I do, I know it's not popular but I think it's a great way to build up a collection and not spend alot on some plants so you can save and spend more on rare ones. I havent had a problem with packing or pests, I know some others have so I'm prepared everytime, but so far so good.

You can also paint terra cotta very easily with just any kind of paint and even do fancy designs on them with stones, glass, mosaic tiles, etc. So easy and it makes each pot a one of a kind!

Lots of great resources, thanks Nick! I do love the look of the Berg planters but I am very disappointed that the interior of the saucer is not glazed. When I spend that amount of money on a pot/saucer I don't want to have to be concerned about water damage to my tables and shelving. Yes, I know I could put something underneath them but then it detracts from the esthetics of the pot...

I've been wondering if it's possible to glaze them ourselves? Like maybe with some polyeurothane? Idk if it would just peel off though. I need to do an experiment!

@@amyp8162 I've used melted wax to coat the inside of similar saucers but it's not a great solution. It seals them pretty well but in the heat of summer it can get sticky, especially if exposed to the sun. Never tried polyurethane but maybe it's worth a shot! Doesn't resolve the issue that a 20-50$ (or more! ) pot should not, in my opinion, need to be MacGivered to do the job!

Take your unglazed pots possibly to a place you do ceramics of painting an item, ex.: pumpkin. And have them fire glaze the inside? Just a thought. 😞

@@amyp8162 , Look around at Home Depot, etc. or ask at local nurseries, there IS a glaze made specifically to DIY your clay pots__I think I learned about it years ago from Martha Stewart. 😸 Don't try other things that may be toxic to your plants! Good Luck! 🌱🌿🙌🙌🙌😺

What a great video! Thank you! I do love terra cotta pots, but I really want cache pots. Cache pots are very hard to find - especially that fits a 6” nursery pot. Any suggestions??

How fun; To me (as a Dane) Berg's pots are Copenhagen (Berg)'s Pots. I love the glazed ones, and have a few and plan on getting a few more. I recently saw the terracotta ones and I do need a few of them too :-) They are just so beautiful. The glazed colours are just amazing.

I was going to get some more terra cotta pots, but they absorb too much water for me. I find myself watering plants in those pots too often.

My sister said the only reason I don’t look like a hoarder is because of my mostly terra-cotta planters😅 It looks more cohesive & intentional if you stick to a particular style/color scheme.

I love terra cotta, but I have been getting tired of it, and have considered painting and then decorating them just to give them a different and unique look, I love the Basalt pots, and have found some at JoAnns, but they don't have a variety of sizes, just the one size and it's about a 5 or 6 inch pot, super cool looking but I would like some smaller ones. I love all kinds of different pots, and if I just get a pot to be a cache po then that will be okay as well. Thanks Nick for sharing this video, great pots and thanks for the links to check them out. Great video! I am trying to slow down my plant purchases. I think I will focus on vessels for a few months. Once it warms up, I will drive to Philadelphia and buy some pots from your shop. I want to go to Illexotics too.

My favorite local plant shop just got in a shipment of those spherical terra cotta pots in different colors. I bought one the other day and they even drilled a hole for me at no extra charge.

I love shopping for planters. I usually buy them in thrift stores. My house is filled with thrifted dark rattan furniture, so to balanceren it out I stick to white planters most of the time (in all shapes and forms). Unless they have some cool wicker planters / cachepots. Those always come home with me.

I'd like to have most of my planters in white. If i paint terracotta planters (not glaze them) would they lose their ability to evaporate water..?

They do. Sometimes when I purchase them, they hole is plugged with like mud or clay, but you can easily punch it out with your finger if so
