Hiii skip to 1:15 if you don't wanna listen to me blab! Also sorry I keep looking off to the side at some invisible phantom, my mirror was there so I had to keep making sure my camera was still focused on meeeee *flails arms*, okay BYE ENJOYYY
Yayyy! Thank you so much lady! Your shoe taste is impeccable. And so what if you're size 9?! At least you don't have my crappy bunions! Hahaha!! I'm gonna get those lace up boots! LOVE! :)
The Pinup Companion Rachel! You are my absolute FAVORITE VINTAGE PERSON!!!!! I feel like you're one of my bffs! (I really do wish you were one of my bffs 😩). Can you make a video of your favorite vintage music? Start with all the music in all your videos, that's one of the things I look forward to every time I see a new video of you in my feed. Please please do a vintage music video! And please please do a meet and greet! Yes, I'm asking again. Love you so much and watching your videos is one of the things that makes my day better!. I re-watch your older videos in between you uploading new ones. Take care🤗❤️👌🏽☝🏼
Younger gals: There are people called cobblers (yes, even today) and they can resole your shoes AND add rubber half soles and heels to "character shoes" AKA expensive dance shoes that tend to look vintage. Dance shoes wear like iron and come in a lot of sizes! Just a tip from a former tapper!
Capezio is a brand my mom used to swear by. She wasn't a dancer, but she swore their shoes were the most comfortable ones she owned and lasted forever. Sidenote, as an adult I found a pair of capezio cowboy boots, worst shoes EVER as far as comfort went, but my fault probably, never buy boots of that style you can't wear good socks in, it matters.
Please don't take my odd compliment the wrong way, but you look like you could have be a sassy cartoonist working for Walt Disney in the 40s. I feel like I say this every video, but your editing makes me so happy :) As for women with big feet back then, my grandma who was a teenager in the 50s with size nines says she they didn't make clothes for "big people." I think she either crammed into the largest women's shoe she could find or bought feminine men's shoes, which were hard to come by without being the talk of the town. I'm an 11, so finding any shoes at all that don't look like clown shoes is a struggle!
I'm working for a shoe online shop in Germany (we're not the producers) that sells shoes of the brand "Brako". It's a spanish brand, they have very vintage looking and high quality shoes (they are made of real leather). Just search for Brako shoes on the Internet, they sell sizes until 9/ 10 (UK size I think :D). I do also have very large feet and I know the struggle. PS: this is not advertisement or anything else, I just know the shoes and their good quality and maybe you might like them :)
Well most people who have larger size feet are tall and clothing hangs beautifully on them so focus on the positive lol I’m only 5’4” so not very tall. Vertically challenged lol well I guess average but that would be annoying to try to find shoes that fit luckily now we have more options shopping online! 😁 yay!
Would you ever do a vintage business/professional workplace lookbook? Or maybe a tutorial for business-y hair? I'd love to see your take on that bc I just got an office job and don't want to just wear boring office clothes lol
Rewatching this in 2022 and it's amazing how many vintage reproduction and vintage inspired options there are for shoes now! I feel like I see a new ad on instagram every other time I open it. The Memery has some styles that I've been eyeing for a while.
I'm 5"10' and I wear a lot of high heels. I've always loved feeling tall. But then, I live in the Netherlands, where my height is nothing unusual. I also lived in London, and the Brits are much shorter, but I love being taller than average. Btw, I feel like vintage clothes in general are not that easy to find when you're taller.
lol myself and my daughter went to Amsterdam, we're both tall but she's taller and we couldn't get over the height of women over there we felt like dwarfs lol. we're Irish
Maria Sofola __oh yes, the Irish are much shorter in general. The English too. I used to live in London and I always felt like a super model there. Edit: oops, I'm repeating myself with the whole London thing!
try glueing a tiny piece of felt on the part of those soda shoes that digs into your ankle. it will provide a bit of padding. bonus if can find a wool jacket at the thrift and use a piece of that!
The Rocketdog suggestion totally helped me! I was just poking around my local Plato's Closet today and found knee-high Rocketdog boots. Not quite the same style of course, but I immediately thought of your video and excitedly grabbed them. They look a lot like the Breckelle's boots and were in my size. So excited. Also picked up a pair of cool Oxford style shoes. Thank you for sharing your shoe collection (and other items too), it really helps as I start trying to dress towards more of a vintage style. Plus I love your sense of humor and beautiful video style. :)
I'm 5' 11" and wear a 10W or 11, so I feel you on the vintage ones never fitting. The oldest shoes I own that fit are from the late 70s. My guess is women with bigger feet in the past probably had to wear men's shoes or have them custom made. And I had a pair of those City Classified flats and I loved them so much! I wore them until they fell apart, I hope they restock my size someday so I can buy more 😊
Also coming to the realization that I don't own vintage shoes haha. I also have big feet and wear size 9 1/2-10 (perks of being tall woo) A lot of my shoes are naturalizer because they have a more "old" look and often pass as vintage and they're suuper comfy! Also love breckelles, guilty of owning them in multiple colors too XD
Lol I don't think I ever really thought about it until I was done with this. I always figured I had one or two pairs of actual vintage but uhhhh nope, just one apparently 😂😂
Yeah that 1-2inch heel is a good comfort level :) I checked and unfortunately Rivers doesn't ship worldwide which is a pity because they're not a bad price either
Thank you for sharing so many flats and low shoes! I'm doing a pin up pageant, and have a bum ankle AND knee, so high heels are really not an option for me... but I know so many people will be wearing pumps.
I recognized those Aris Allens immediately! Yes, they are dance shoes (and if you're a dancer, I wouldn't recommend wearing them outside if you want to keep them turning great for swing or other dancing), but for anyone wondering... Yes, they're still in business!
I love the Benny & Joon clip at the end. Lol. I can relate to the having larger feet impairing owning vintage shoes. I am right between an 8 1/2 to 9 with a wide foot on top of that. Love your shoe collection!
That moment of pain when you hear: 'those boots (you adore) are still available online...' and then your brain kicks into gear and adds 'but not where you live, missy!' 😢
The Pinup Companion The brand seems to be avaible theoretically but I only with a very limited selection - and most were listed as 'not avaible'. Oh well, looking for them I already found a different pair I love (can't wait for boot season to begin!) 😁
I feel you Rachel; I am a size 10/11 women (9/10 men) shoe and finding cute thrift store shoes is pretty much impossible. However, these fins make me a very good swimmer. As for your shoes digging into your heels, put a blister patch or a flesh-toned bandaid on your heel. I think some companies make inserts specifically for heels as well but either option might work for you.
I can't get over how amazing your style of vintage is!!! Everything just works so well together. You legit have the cutest shoe collection 😭💖 I kinda have to make my shoes look vintage ish in any way I can like painting a pair of white low top vans to make them look like oxfords lmao. I can't wait for what outfit ideas you'll come up with for the fall!!💖💖💖
You'd be surprised how little it took to get me hooked on the vintage style, I found your channel like two days ago and I'm already enamored with it. Particularly love the long skirts [I've been growing adverse to short ones lol] I seem to face the exact same sort of issue you do when it comes to finding shoes in my size [Size 5, you'd think that'd be easy, well I was wrong]. My mission to look for some cute oxfords has been a difficult feat, and I blame my weariness of looking into random online shops T.T
I have a obsession with collecting vintage. I even have a working 1950's sunbeam mixer and a working 1970's toaster. I have been wanting to get into the fashion but gonna wait until I have time and money. To fill my vintage goals of a house full of vintage everything including attire.
Rewatching those old videos cause you're my comfort youtuber. You changed a lot in 3 years damn ! Your hair and makeup are quite different. I like both version ^^
Today I started doing research about different styles and found vintage style I was like wow I love all of this I have always had a love for vintage clothes but never knew this was a style I am loving it thank u Rachel for showing things about vintage I love u
I love you. Your videos make me laugh and I love your vintage style. I also appreciate that your proudly share your "nerdy" passions without feeling the need to apologize for it. You're delightful.
Royale Vintage Shoes are a treasure trove for vintage shoes (circa 20s-40s), even for us Clydesdale lassies. They make reconstructions of surviving extant shoes. Their sister company, American Duchess, does shoes from the 18th century to the 1910s.
Many swing dancers use vintage-looking black-and-white shoes, you ought to find them easily. Try e.g. Bleyer - they mostly do flats but have some heeled versions like Suzy-Q. And they are comfortable!
Have you checked Restricted Shoes? It's an online store, I've bought a couple of shoes there and usually get complilents when I were them; and the price is not bad
For shoes digging into your ankles or rubbing at toes, I swear by athletic tape! Its wider than a plaster so it doesn't get caught and peeled down by the back of the shoe, you can pre cut strips of it and keep them in the coin section of your wallet, put it on before your tights to hide it better or put it over a plaster if you've already got a cut going + need extra security/staying power. I use bright pink tape bc it was the cheapest option, but it comes in skin tones for better camo, and my one roll has lasted me the past 4 yrs 😁 life's too short to let pain stop you from shoes you love!
My grandmother has this lovely pair of beaded shoes from her wedding - it cost a fortune back then to make, so after the wedding she wore it only for new year's, it's basically in amazing condition for its age but her feet were TINY. I can put maybe half my foot in it before crying 😭 Those red lace up shoes are so cute btw 💖💖
Oh I believe you, I’m a 6foot tall plus sized female with size 12 feet. Curse my love for vintage cause I literally can’t find anything. 😢 love those black and white shoes btw! 💕
Soo cute! A lot of your insecurities that you've overcome are the ones I'm currently overcoming. This 5'8", size 9 shoe, vintage lover really sees you as quite the inspiration...🥰
Oh and visit The Walking Company. We normally have at least 2 or 3 styles that look like vintage shoes every season and they're comfort shoes that last forever. I have 3 pairs of oxfords and a slip on shoes that look completely vintage. I also have some creative recreation shoes at goodwill that are those oxford type sneaks. Super cute
I've been looking for a pair of those City Classified mary janes ever since my own pair gave up the ghost! I bought them originally at a thrift store with an unreadable tag so I was never able to track them down. My day is made, I must now go and buy these in every available colour!
I'm absolutely in love with this video! Your shoes are soooo beautiful! Where I live is really hard to find anything that looks a little like vintage, so it's an everyday task! I fell in love with the black heels!
For modern shoes with vintage flair, try Rockport's Cobb Hill line. They're a bit more expensive because they are leather, but there are some really cute styles. Also the arch support is actually high enough to hit my high-end-of-average arches. They also seem to be a sturdy shoe, however please be aware that this means that most people will have to break them in.
I totally understand not having many vintage shoe options in your size... I’m an 11 1/2 (or 11wide) and the number of times i experience disappointment when looking for cute shoes is upsetting. But I found that if you’re looking for shoes in larger size that look somewhat vintage-y and don’t mind loafers, the men’s department can be quite useful! I recently got a beautiful pair of men’s dress shoes from the thrift store that look really vintage and they fit me well! If paired with the right outfit, they can look quite feminine (if that’s the style you’re going for).
ALSO since fall is coming upon us I would love love love some lookbooks. In my mind I've always associated the season of autumn with vintage stuff for some reason sooooo perfecto
As someone with curly hair I identified with that part where you were fussing about your hair on a spiritual level. The shrinkage is real and sometimes I have locks that are almost four inches longer sticking out 😂😂😂
For my wedding I was so concerned with finding burgundy/ox blood heels that would match my husband's shirt. I found them. I wore them for the ceremony but they hurt so I changed into sandals for the reception. During dinner we went out for more pictures that included dancing in a gazebo AND I FORGOT TO CHANGE BACK INTO THE PRETTY SHOES!!! The pictures turned out really cute but every time I look at them all I see are my old, worn out but super comfy sandals.
I love the mid vid floof image! Thank you for this video, you gave me tons of inspiration in looking for shoes that may do in vintage style. Loved the video as always. Memes, you, good music, vintage and the talking animals - everything I need.
Thank you for this video! I know the struggle of finding vintage shoes and clothing. I too have size 9 feet, and I also have a large bust so it's hard for me to find tops.
As a cross dressing male (str8) not that it matters I feel your pain I have a 10/11m which equates 12/13f I actually have been able to Purchase on eBay and some Chinese imports from www
There is a spray you can get at a shoe repair place that you can spray on the back of those brown flats and rub in. It will help that spot be slightly less stiff so it won't rub your foot so much. I had to do the same thing for the flats I wore on my wedding day. It took a few applications, but they were much better for it. Also the spray is like 5 bucks.
I love Earth Origins and Naturalizer! They are super comfortable and really cute. They're pretty much the only heels that I can wear. I have some really really comfortable Earth Origins leather loafers that I wear all of the time.
I blankly stare at my camera tooo it takes me forever for my brain to kick into gear, American Eagle actually has tons of vintage looking shoes I have a few myself and they are super comfy!
I'm 5'10" with size 9 feet and I feel your pain finding vintage shoes and the feeling of towering over people in heels. Thanks for giving me a few brands to check out! Oh, my DSW in Columbus Ohio has these ballet pink ballet flats with a ribbon in the sale section though they were 10s, but maybe you'd be lucky finding them
So I may have purchased a pair of those strappy White Mountain sandals after seeing this video ... I found a pair on eBay, except in red. And yes, they are some of the most adorable *and* comfortable shoes I have ever worn. So thank you for mentioning the brands of your shoe collection! :D Also, the American Eagle shoes rock; shockingly great brand. They are so pretty and comfortable, and I own quite a few pairs! One of my favorite pairs of shoes ever are these black high heel mary janes that I wear all of the time when I dress up for something during the wintertime. They've lasted me about 5 years, and I'll probably cry when I finally wear them to the ground. Haha.
I totally get the whole heels- being too tall thing! I'm 5'10 and I used to be so scared to wear heels but now I'm busting out the stilettoes not giving a damn cause 1- CUTE SHOES! and 2- makes your legs look god damn good
Like you, I wear a size 9, so it's almost impossible to find vintage shoes that fit. This video was very helpful and I'll definitely have to check out some of those shoes!😄❤️
Girl, look up G.H.Bass woman's shoes. They've been around since 1876 so you can find some of their older stuff easily on ebay for around $9-$20. Their loafers, saddle shoes, and oxfords are 👌👌👌 Their new stuff, directly from their site, can be pricey at $90+. Etsy jacks up the price of them to around $40 so I highly recommend ebay B^)
I have been waiting for this video!!! Also I have a pair of black ballet style shoes like your red ones that I found at Target... so in love with them. They may still have them.
Fun fact: they didn’t necessarily have smaller feet. Women with average sized feet bought and wore through their shoes or passed them on and those got worn down, while smaller shoes weren’t purchased as often or passed down so are easier to find. Antique clothes in unusual sizes are the same way. They’re often better preserved since they were harder to pass on to other family and get worn to filth lol
